Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them. Deuteronomy 4:9

We had a wonderful report today. Jim had blood work and then saw the Urologist/ Vascular Specialist and his PSA numbers were down to 1.6. No sign of prostate cancer. They did say he could have surgery to shave the prostate down to a smaller size but he opted not to do that because of the icky side effects from prostate surgery. We are certainly blessed and so happy!

I didn’t have any children today, so Jim brought me the car after going to the doctor in Atlanta. I took him to work and then took clothes to the consignment shop. I only had $3.00 in credit there. I sure can’t imagine why I’ve never made much money at this store. It makes me suspect when I cannot find our clothing items and yet don’t have good amounts of money. After that, I went to Dollar Tree and got some shampoo, hairspray and greeting cards. I wanted to get a birthday card for our daughter in law and get well cards for my mother. I found a Grandparent’s Day card for her, too. I enjoyed being out and about.

"Wisdom is found with the elderly, and understanding comes with long life" Job 12:12

It’s so nice having no children for daycare today. I put the dog out for Jim and went back to sleep until around 8:30. I stayed in bed until 9:00, petting the cat and enjoying the nice breeze. It was so quiet in our neighborhood all day. Nick only needed help on Math. We were able to spend quality time working on that. I’m praying I won’t need to do childcare during his high school years.

It got up to 92° for a while here today. We’d expected it. I didn’t close up the whole house, tho. We have a window unit in the television room that will cool half the upstairs, including Nick’s bedroom. The kitchen and our master bedroom stay cooler because they don’t get full sun. The backyard is treed, so those rooms get only a few minutes of sun before it moves over the house.

My mother is doing quite well. I call her each day to check. She’ll have coughing spells. I won’t explain why. It made me ill just thinking about it. Her hip is much better, tho she’s still in pain when she tries to walk. I’m so glad my Aunt is there with her for the next few weeks. Do keep them in prayer. My aunt has Sjögren’s Syndrome and gets ill often.

We’re having Reuben sandwiches for supper. It’s one of our favorites and perfect for a night when you don’t want to heat up the whole kitchen or stand out in the heat to grill out. I love extra Sauerkraut on mine.

I was asked to make a casserole for the Baptist Collegiate Ministry at University of West Georgia this Friday. Since I don’t have a car each day, I’ll have to take it Thursday night or have Jim drop it off before he goes to school on Friday morning. I’ve narrowed down my choices to a few and now have to decide which time I’ll deliver it so I can decide if I need to make something that reheats a second day well. Some casseroles are better the second day and others get hard or gummy if you aren’t careful. I also want to send something that will appeal to college kids. How does Beef Taco Bake sound? They have almost 100 kids each Friday.

After 38 years, I heard from my college big sister. She found me on a reunion type website that I’d listed myself on many years ago. She lives south east of us, but still in Georgia. It was really neat. Also, my unofficial college big sister lives about 45 minutes from us. We located each other a number of years ago but have never gotten together. She was my Maid of Honor. She is very busy as a teacher and in their church. They don’t have email, so we seldom ‘visit’.

Have a nice evening and please take a minute and read the verses I’ve chosen to share today.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

1 John 3:1 See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for he allows us to be called his children, and we really are! But the people who belong to this world don't know God, so they don't understand that we are his children. 2 Yes, dear friends, we are already God's children, and we can't even imagine what we will be like when Christ returns. But we do know that when he comes we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. 3 And all who believe this will keep themselves pure, just as Christ is pure.

4 Those who sin are opposed to the law of God, for all sin opposes the law of God. 5 And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, for there is no sin in him. 6 So if we continue to live in him, we won't sin either. But those who keep on sinning have never known him or understood who he is. 7 Dear children, don't let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it is because they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. 8 But when people keep on sinning, it shows they belong to the Devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy these works of the Devil. 9 Those who have been born into God's family do not sin, because God's life is in them. So they can't keep on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the Devil. Anyone who does not obey God's commands and does not love other Christians does not belong to God.

11 This is the message we have heard from the beginning: We should love one another. 12 We must not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because Cain had been doing what was evil, and his brother had been doing what was right. 13 So don't be surprised, dear brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.

14 If we love our Christian brothers and sisters, it proves that we have passed from death to eternal life. But a person who has no love is still dead. 15 Anyone who hates another Christian is really a murderer at heart. And you know that murderers don't have eternal life within them. 16 We know what real love is because Christ gave up his life for us. And so we also ought to give up our lives for our Christian brothers and sisters. 17 But if anyone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need and refuses to help how can God's love be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us stop just saying we love each other; let us really show it by our actions. 19 It is by our actions that we know we are living in the truth, so we will be confident when we stand before the Lord, 20 even if our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our conscience is clear, we can come to God with bold confidence. 22 And we will receive whatever we request because we obey him and do the things that please him.

23 And this is his commandment: We must believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as he commanded us. 24 Those who obey God's commandments live in fellowship with him, and he with them. And we know he lives in us because the Holy Spirit lives in us.

but the silence of our friends."

You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. Acts 2:28

I’m still on a high from Jim’s good report at the urologist’s office yesterday. Wow! God is good! No prostate cancer! Thank You Jesus!

Since I had the car yesterday, I went to Jim’s football practice at 5:00 and enjoyed watching my handsome hubby out on the field with the middle school boys. There’s one 6’3” black kid who just loves Jim. Every time Jim calls out something, this kid hollers ‘Coach T says break it down’. It’s really cute. The amazing thing is this kid was disruptive in school until Jim took a special interest in him, eating lunch with him and talking sports with him. It’s amazing the influence we can have on youth by just showing them some respect and listening to them. Here’s a picture of ‘Coach’ from the school’s website.

We had an adventure late last night. I’d walked Scooter one last time before putting him down and as I opened the door, something went past me. I thought a leaf had blown in or something fell off the wreath on the door. I was on my way out and didn’t think anything about it. Jim and I got in bed and were watching House when I thought I saw something moving on the off white frame on a painting across from the foot of our bed. It was a HUGE Palmetto bug. Now, if you don’t know what a Palmetto bug is, it’s a nice way to say ‘giant flying roach’. Jim jumped up and turned on the light and I ran over to try and trap that sucker. He flew over to the armoire that holds our television. I ran over there and tried to get him but he went up the side of the television and then went behind the furniture piece. We searched and searched, even removing drawers and looking to see if here were on the bottom of those or in the clothes. Nothing. About thirty minutes later, I noticed him on the side of the armoire near the floor. Again, we jumped up but he ran back under the very heavy piece. I put some sticky bug traps out and tried to get to sleep. I woke several times during the night when the cat’s fur would brush against me or my hair would blow across my face from the fan blowing on me. I was sure that bug was in our bed! I didn’t wake Jim. I’m a good wife. I have to tell you that I’m not afraid of anything but spiders, but I’m not happy about that huge bug being in our room!

“LORD, don't hold back your tender mercies from me. My only hope is in your unfailing love and faithfulness.” Psalms 40:11

I only had the 2 year old for daycare today and she was only here from 9:30 until suppertime. They’d been on vacation and her mom had a lot of laundry to do, errands and unpacking. The one year old was home sick. She’s had a fever for several days and the doctor can’t find the cause. Anyhow, I played Barbie's and heard tales of sand crabs, seagulls and shells. It was a lovely day.

Because of our not having a second car, I won’t be able to work with our youth group every Wednesday night except from mid October until baseball practice starts in the very early spring. I’m going to try and get Nick there each week, even if he has to go early. I think it’s very important for him to be in mid week worship service with kids his own age and also able to socialize. He really enjoys it and learns so much. I can’t go early or even catch a ride with the other leaders because the one who lives near me has to be there before 5:30 and the one who lives next door also can’t go until October. It just isn’t meant to be, it seems. Maybe the Lord wants someone else to do that job this year.

And "my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:19

I called about my jury duty today. It’s a ‘state’ court summons and I know with my brother’s murder, not having transportation and doing childcare for an officer of the court that I’d be disqualified or excused. I left a message and hope to hear from them soon. If I’m not excused, two mothers have to take off work. Maybe they’ll call soon. Update: The judge called me. He was going to give me until October and I mentioned daycare. There’s an automatic excused if you do daycare. Neat! He’ll have his assistant mail out the form when she gets back from a training seminar.

Jim got a call from a woman wanting him to record her singing for a job demo and burn some CD’s tonight and this weekend in his studio downstairs. She needs one song tonight and a full program done this weekend. She’s gotten a job at a fancy restaurant in the next town. The extra money helps.

I made me a hotdog (krautdog) for supper. Nick ate at church and Jim will be extra late tonight. Once he’s home, I need to run to the store for ingredients for the casserole I promised to make and then pick up Nick at church while Jim does some school work online. By time I finish, the lady will be here for Jim to record her. I’ll go ahead and get ready for bed. I feel like I’m getting a head cold and can usually get well overnight if I’m a bit proactive and get a good night’s sleep.

Have a nice evening and please take a minute and read the inspirational story I’ve chosen to share today.

God Bless,

Wilma's Bag

By Pamela Perry Blaine

It was a cold winter's day when I first met her. She came into the waiting area of the automotive department at the mall where I was waiting for them to put new tires on our van. I watched her as she put down a large plastic bag that didn't seem to have very much in it. She took off her coat, hat, and gloves and immediately went to work. She was a woman with a purpose and knew exactly what she was doing as she poured the water for a fresh pot of coffee. Next, she began cleaning the counter, scrubbing it with a wet cloth and straightening up the room.

I commented on how nice she made the room look and she asked me if I would like a cup of coffee. "Sure," I said, "the coffee smells wonderful." Then I asked her how long she had worked there. "Oh honey," "I don't work here," she said. "I've gotten to know the folks here and I like to help them out." She explained, "It's just something I can do to make people smile and you never know, it just might make a difference."

"My name is Wilma," she said, "I've been retired for years." I also introduced myself to Wilma and she continued to tell me all about herself. It seems Wilma had lived several blocks from the mall in a trailer court since her husband died. She told me that she took the bus to the mall everyday and brought her plastic bag full of goodies. "Did you see Bill over at that desk?", she asked. "He just loves pretzels so I always put some of them in my bag for him. Now, Margie, over there at the drug store," she continued, "she's always so tired, she works two jobs, you know, and I just like to see her eyes light up when I bring her a Dr. Pepper." As Wilma talked on I discovered that she made the rounds everyday to many places in and around the mall where she brought cookies, candy, or whatever she had to the people that had become her friends.

"My son lives in Florida," Wilma explained, "he tells me that I shouldn't spend my money like this, but it's something I can do to make people smile and maybe it will make a difference," she said once again. "I went down there to Florida to visit my son," she smiled, "he wants me to stay there but he doesn't want me to go out alone and I'm just bored to death, but then I wouldn't want him to know that," Wilma laughed. "I have my friends here." "Why, just this morning, I stopped at the grocery store and I pushed all those carts inside for George." "He works there, you know, and he isn't getting any younger...must be at least 80 and he has to push all those carts inside by himself, so I helped him." (I had to smile to myself as I knew that Wilma couldn't be far from 80 herself)

"Do you ever enter contests?" Wilma asked. Before I could answer, she went on, "I always enter all the contests in the stores and sometimes I win," she said with excitement. "You know those life-sized cardboard figures you see in the stores?" Wilma asked, "Well, I won Patrick Swayze," she laughed, "and now I got him right in my living room!"

"Well," I winked at her, "just as long as you don't keep him in your bedroom." She threw up her hands at that and laughed harder than ever and then went on to tell me about some of the things she had won and shared with her friends. I told her what a nice thing that she was doing and again she said, "Oh, it's just something I can do to make people smile and you never know, it just might make a difference."

It was time for Wilma to catch her bus and my van was ready to go. Wilma's bag was about empty except for some M&Ms for her next door neighbor. I told Wilma I hoped we would meet again sometime.

As I left, I thought about Wilma's bag and all the good that she was doing for others. It might seem to some as insignificant, but it's often the little things that count and make life easier. I thought you should know about Wilma because, "It's just something I can do to make people smile and you never know, it just might make a difference."

"Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me." Matthew 25:40

Tonight at 5:00 is the middle school football game and Nick and I are going. The game is at the V-Plex not far from our house so Jim’s going to come by and let me drive him over and then come to the game when I can. I’ll be there about 20 minutes into the game, most probably. Nick’s going with Jim.

I had only one daycare child again today. The one year old was still sick last night so her father took off to keep her today. Hopefully she’ll be much better by tomorrow. Hailee misses her.

It seems like I was up extra early today, but I wasn’t. The day went quite slowly. I had a number of things to get done, so I was busy. I made the Beef Taco Bake for the Baptist group at the University of West Georgia and will drop it off tonight when I take Jim to football. It smelled so very good! It’s almost TOO easy to make! We’ll have it ourselves one night. A friend sent it to me off Kraft Foods.

I also had five loads of clothes to wash. I don’t usually let them pile up. Two loads were jeans and one load was Jim’s clothes for school. He goes directly to football from class so they need a bit of extra care. Add in sheets and the usual laundry and there you go. I folded as I took them out of the dryer and took them right to the room or closet where they belong. No sense in working twice!

Nick and I worked together and made Creamy Baked Chicken Enchilada’s and a neat dessert for supper. We don’t usually have desserts. It’s peanut butter, cream cheese, vanilla pudding and cool whip mixtures over crushed Oreos. It’s striped white, tan, creamy white and black. It’s so pretty. It makes 24 servings at 230 calories each. (EEK) I just hope I can stick with one extra small serving so I don’t fall off my diet. It was a lot of work so I hope it tastes great.

It looks like the man who murdered my brother is going to plead guilty and accept a plea bargain instead of having a trial. If he does, the most he could be sentenced would be 5 years. I forgot to ask if he’d get time served and possibly out on good behavior. The DA asked if I could come and speak at the sentencing to ask for the full amount of time. I don’t have the money or transportation to go. They’ll let me know the date. I didn’t tell them no. It’s 1,200 miles round trip. I don’t see how it could be done. Is there even a need? If God wants Edward Burns to go to prison for 5 years, God is able to see to it that he does.

All in all, it was a nice day and I got pretty much everything finished I hoped to get done. Tonight Jim has to work on some things for college and fill out some papers for the GI Bill. We THINK he still qualifies for college money as a Veteran but may have read it wrong. What a blessing if he does! He has a Pell Grant and another federal loan but this would mean.... One is an assessment test he has to take since he’s been out of college for 38 years. I’m sure he’ll do well. They said to allow two hours and be prepared for an essay. He loves to write. Piece of cake, I’m sure.

Have a lovely evening and an even more wonderful Friday.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. John 15:2

The memory of the righteous will be a blessing...
Proverbs 10:7a

I was looking for the name of the unit where Jim did his reserve time after getting out of the Army and was going through some papers from many years ago. I came across our Marriage License and a birth certificate for one of our grown children. What wonderful memories that brought back! It was a lovely way to start off a Friday, even if I didn’t find what I need.

Tonight is the high school football game and Jim’s going to keep their stats. He’ll not be home until around 10:00 I’m guessing. It’s a home game, so it’s only 5 or 6 miles from here, but he has middle school practice until 6 or 6:30 and the high school game starts at 7:00. His football shirt is here. He’s going to try to come home and get it. He only has one and wore it last night, so I washed it for him. They have more on order and we’ve laughed saying it will get here about time the season ends. He really enjoys coaching and it’s a paying position.

We got his paperwork filled out for the GI bill. If he still qualifies for his school money, we won’t need part time jobs. The information isn’t really clear so I’m not sure if he still qualifies or not. It’s been a lot of years. It appears he is still eligible….

The little baby was here today. She slept a LOT. She ate well and laughed and talked to me. I can tell she’s not completely well because she looks uncomfortable at times and is sneezing a lot, but no other symptoms. No fever, which is good. Maybe she’ll be all well by next week. I hope so. She’s such a good child. Her dad got here a little early today. She’ll be here everyday next week.

I’ve qualified for a few more survey checks as of today. It’s easy money. I am invited to answer about 8 a day plus get one or two emails to read for cash. I make at least $60.00 each month. I got almost that much last week.

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, and you are that temple. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17

The man who murdered my brother has pled guilty today, 17 months after Michael’s death. I don’t know if they changed the charges. I didn’t think to ask and it’s too late in the day now. He’ll be sentenced to up to 5 years, depending on the judge.

Today is our daughter in law’s 36th birthday. I hope they got to do something fun today. She usually teaches on Friday.

There’s a good movie on tonight and Monk is on later. I’m going to relax with Nick and watch those.

Have a lovely evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Romans 5: 6 When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, no one is likely to die for a good person, though someone might be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God's sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God's judgment. 10 For since we were restored to friendship with God by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be delivered from eternal punishment by his life. 11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God all because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done for us in making us friends of God.

"Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men and be strong." 1 Corinthians 16:13

"Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil." Ephesians 6:11

1 Peter 1:3-9 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade - kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Happy Grandparent’s Day to all the grandparents who read my blog.

I hope you have a lovely day. We got a card out to my mother but she hasn’t received it yet. Our mail isn’t very dependable in this little, rural town.

We all slept really late today. Jim had gotten home from the high school football game around 10:45. He wanted to put the stats down on paper before he forgot everything or his notes no longer made sense so he and Nick stayed up really late. I went to sleep around 11:00 and we were still in bed mid morning. It was nice to just lie there. We never do that.

Nick and Jim went over to City Park and tossed the football for a while this afternoon. Scooter and I watched DIY shows together. It was a very lazy day for all of us.

It wasn’t very hot here today, but my hot flashes made it seem hot. We cooked outside to keep from heating up the kitchen more than necessary. It’s cooled down a bit, now, and should be very pleasant overnight.

We’re expecting rain by the middle of the week. I sure hope we get it. We really need it! We’ve been in a drought for years now. Our grass is more brown than green. Of course, we’ve only had to cut the grass about once every three weeks this year.

I’d given away half of my smaller clothes about a year ago to a woman who’d been deserted and who was going to work for the first time in her life. At the time, I thought I’d be able to buy new clothes at some point. Now I struggle each week trying to find something to wear to church that fits me and fits the weather. I have a lot of wools, but virtually nothing for the summer! I gave my size 8’s to our daughter. I don’t know if I’ll reach that size, but the things I’d given her were ‘young’ looking clothes. I felt led, tho, so know I did what I was supposed to.

I enjoyed the movie and MONK last night. Nick did too. I hope the movie is on again so Jim can see it. It was pretty good for a kids movie. I've discovered if I don't nap, I sleep much better and go to sleep much easier at night. Oh I love my weekend naps, tho. Oh well!

Have a lovely evening and hope you’ll plan now to be in church tomorrow. I’ve chosen one short passage of scripture to share today and hope you’ll take a minute to read it.

Have a lovely evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

"I chose you before I formed you in the womb; I set you apart before you were born. I appointed you a prophet to the nations. But I protested, 'Oh no, Lord God! Look, I don't know how to speak since I am only a youth.' Then he Lord said to me: Do not say: I am only a youth; for you will go to everyone I send you to and speak whatever I tell you. Do not be afraid of anyone, for I will be with you to deliver you. This is the Lord's declaration." Jeremiah 1:5-8

"As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds His people from this time forth and forever." Psalms 125:2

We slept a little late today but got to Sunday School extra early so Jim could get the pancakes started for when the first kids arrived. The kids came in quite slowly and we ended up with a decent amount of youth present. Our lessons are not easy to teach because the book we’re using is a personal study book. My week is next week.

We had a light lunch and are having our big meal tonight. I’m making a Taco Chicken a friend had told me about. You slice a baked potato onto foil and top with a chicken breast. Sprinkle Taco seasoning over that and put some salsa, shredded Mexican cheese on that and close the foil, leaving room for steam. It bakes at 400° for about 40 minutes. The chicken breasts we got were HUGE so I’m adding time to make sure it’s done. Nick helped me by peeling the potatoes.

I went out for a few groceries last night. Wal-Mart was packed. I was only in the grocery area but you had to maneuver in and out. I wasn’t able to reach the Salsa I wanted. Top shelf and pushed back. I even tried standing on the bottom row. I’m a short gal of 5’2”. There were a number of men on the aisle and I really expected one to offer to get it for me. Nope. I looked and saw they had seen me and knew of my predicament. Since they didn’t respond as a gentleman should, I didn’t ask for help. I figured I’d just choose from another type and I found one jar of the special salsa I wanted that had been put on a lower shelf with another flavor. My Jim would have helped a lady even if he were in a horrible rush.

Nick met me in the garage to carry up the groceries for me. He’s such a wonderful young man. I’m so proud of how him.

I’ve lost another pound. I weigh only 2 lbs more than when we moved into this house, June 28th of 1999. I went on a diet not long after we moved here and lost down to 127 lbs. It didn’t take me long at all. It would be nice if that happened again. Of course, back then I wasn’t doing childcare and the summer was much cooler so I was working in the yard a lot and out playing in the yard with Nick each day.

My mother called while I took a short and early nap. I called her back when I got up. She was out with my aunt. They went to the beach near her house and then went looking for a deli she’d heard about. She’s feeling much better and goes to the doctor in Birmingham again this Wednesday for her two week recheck. Her stitches are falling out.

Our supper was really good. The chicken breasts were way too large for us so we have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. It was an easy to fix and even easier to clean up meal.

Well, Nick’s playing Call of Duty and I help him spot the enemy. Have a nice evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Consider Him (Jesus) who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:3

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5-6

"The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands." Psalms 19:1

Wow, the weekend went way too fast. It’s too bad every week can’t have a three day weekend.

I got a slow start to my day. One baby was late and both eat breakfast here so I was late showering and getting them settled for the morning.

A fly got into the house and one of the children is terrified of any flying insect. We had a full hour of on and off hysteria. I think I finally convinced her that the fly was not a ‘hurt you’ bug and we could shoo him away or shake our hand if he landed. I actually didn’t attempt to kill him because I wanted her to see me unafraid and unconcerned so she’d calm down. It seemed to have worked. In between sightings she’d talk about ‘Mr. Fly’ and how ‘He not hurt you, Diane’. We pretended to be a fly and flitted around with hands as wings, tickling the chair or each other. Poor kid loves butterflies from my window and loves to look at bugs in books, but is so afraid of live bugs.

The youngest baby is much better. She sure was sick last week. Poor thing is so sweet and has such a precious spirit about her that it was awful to see her feeling so bad. I hope none of us gets it.

Tomorrow, Tuesday Sept. 11th, is Jim’s in-office surgery for the ‘moderate melanomas’ on his back shoulder. The two are quite close to each other and I’m not sure if the doctor will need to take it in one larger piece. We’re just so very thankful that the Lord had these be found while they were easily healed and that the four and the one basal cell carcinoma are all she sees and was concerned about. God is good.

Nick’s math is taking most of his school time each day. He LOVES to read, so literature, history and science are fun. He likes word problems. He’s a good speller, too. It’s the rote math problems that bore him.

I’d had the central air off for a few days and it would get way too warm in the television room. The window unit will cool it really well but it wasn’t very comfortable eating dinner in the kitchen after cooking. I turned it back on today but don’t have it set as cool as when it was 100° outside. We’ll still turn off the air and open the windows at night. It gets down to the low 60°’s at night. Very pleasant!

My neighbor’s mother will give Nick a ride to youth group each Wednesday night. I think it’s very important for him to be in church mid week and with kids his own age, even tho he sometimes hears phrases or words I’d rather he not hear. We’ll pick him up. He likes to hang around and play football, basketball or soccer with his friends.

I got some more info from the DA today. The man who murdered my brother pled ‘no contest’, which means he doesn’t admit or deny guilt. The judge could give him probation or up to 5 years in prison. Sentencing is December 10th of this year. I hope the judge reads the testimony and depositions taken and punishes him accordingly.

Wednesday afternoon is a dance at Jim’s school. It’s sponsored by the girl’s softball team. I’m not sure if Jim will chaperone that or if they’ll have football practice. They have an away football game on Thursday at 5:00 p.m.

Speaking of dances, Jim loves to make people laugh. At church, he was telling our friends and some youth that he can’t decide who to ask to be his date to his college dance. Of course, I play his ‘straight man’ and play along with his jokes, acting indignant. It’s quite funny when you think about it. We have fun.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it? I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

Proverbs 15:15 All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast.

2 Corinthians 2:14-15 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing him. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing

Philippians 3:8 "What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ. "

During the seventeenth century, Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector of England, sentenced a soldier to be shot for his crimes. The execution was to take place at the ringing of the evening curfew bell. However when the time came, the bell did not sound. The soldier's fiancé had climbed into the belfry and clung to the great clapper of the bell to prevent it from striking. When she was summoned by Cromwell to account for her actions, she wept as she showed him her bruised and bleeding hands. Cromwell's heart was touched and he said, "Your love shall live because of your sacrifice. Curfew shall not ring tonight!"

How great is YOUR love?

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. Proverbs 24:3-4

Jim had his surgical appointment with the dermatopatholigist today. Yes, that’s a real word. I couldn’t go, so we don’t know how big a spot she removed or if it’s two smaller spots. He has to go back in six weeks for a recheck on those two spots. I’d thought he’d be all finished. It may be that she took a lot of skin area and she’s making sure it heals well. I don’t know. Anyhow, God is good and we’re so thankful this was all caught so early.

I did research and make a few phone calls for Jim for his schooling. The local college he’d applied to but couldn’t get class cap lifted in time to start this fall, still was holding his Pell Grant and Ford Loan info. I wasn’t able to release it but was able to get the link to the form, fill it out so he can sign it and fax it over in the morning. We sure don’t want that to throw off his attending in October at the university.

We’re very, very pleased with all the courses that transferred. Jim has little to take to get his teaching degree. They will make him retake Calculus because it’s been almost forty years and the title of the class he took back then is ‘university math’. There’s no way to prove it was a calculus class. That’s okay because Jim’s not used it much in all these years and will be getting his BA in Secondary Math.

It rained a little today. Two or three spurts so far. It dropped our temperature about 10°, which was quite welcome. The humidity is quite bad. ICKY! We’re supposed to get a bit of rain each day for most of the week. I sure hope so!

I got 20 lbs of Eukanuba dog food by UPS last night and 12 pair of Fruit of the Loom underwear for me today through the surveys I do on the internet. I get turned down for a lot of surveys because they're looking for younger people or people with tiny children. I still do quite well, tho.

Jim and I keep planning to go to bed earlier but there’s always some game on t.v. and I stay up with him and then will watch the normal shows on the west coast stations. I know that’s bad, but I’ve always fallen asleep to television. I don’t like to watch sports but we only have one satellite dish and one receiver, so every television that’s hooked up gets the one channel.

I need to buy groceries soon. I should have gone this weekend but put it off. By time Jim gets home and we eat supper and clean the kitchen, I don’t care to go. I don’t like fighting the crowd at Wal-Mart. We have an Ingles and some other store that keeps changing names. The Ingles is laid out really weird and I can never find what I want. I love the Publix, but it’s the next exit up and well off the highway. It’s also a lot more expensive. If I were well off, I’d always shop at Publix.

Nick breezed through his math today. I sat with him, but he did it all on his own. He got a perfect score on his daily problems. He’s so smart. I’m so glad we followed the call to home school him. It keeps my mind sharp.

This computer is acting odd. We’re having cursor concerns. When I boot up in the morning, the cursor won’t work until I open the task manager and click anything. Pages are slow to close. We clean out our temp files each day and check for errors. We update our virus info automatically and run a virus scan every Saturday night. I can’t imagine what’s going on. Jim removed and reloaded the mouse software. We have three computers, but this one is on 16 hours a day. It’s ignored most of the time. I lost interest in the internet a while back. If Jim didn’t need it for school, we’d shut it off. I do enjoy the theological threads.

I’m not hungry tonight. Nick ate at 5:00. Jim won’t be home til almost 7:00. I’m not sure what I’ll do for the two of us. I thawed out some meat, but think I’ll hold onto it for tomorrow night. Nick will eat at church then. He likes buying something from the concession stand. They have a meal, hot pockets and some other things each week. It allows him to be independent. He misses having milk, tho.

Have a very lovely evening! I hope you’ll read the Bible verses I chose to share today and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Lamentations 3:22 Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24 "The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I hope in Him!" 25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him. 26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the Lord. 27 It is good for a man to bear The yoke in his youth. 28 Let him sit alone and keep silent, Because God has laid it on him; 29 Let him put his mouth in the dust-- There may yet be hope. 30 Let him give his cheek to the one who strikes him, And be full of reproach. 31 For the Lord will not cast off forever. 32 Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion According to the multitude of His mercies.

Hebrews 11:1-6 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval. By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a better sacrifice than Cain, through which he obtained the testimony that he was righteous, God testifying about his gifts, and through faith, though he is dead, he still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God. And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Deuteronomy 11:30-32 "For you are about to cross the Jordan to occupy the land the LORD your God is giving you. When you are living in that land, you must be careful to obey all the laws and regulations I am giving you today."

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Psalms 68:32 Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth; Oh, sing praises to the Lord, Selah 33 To Him who rides on the heaven of heavens, which were of old! Indeed, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice. 34 Ascribe strength to God; His excellence is over Israel, And His strength is in the clouds. 35 O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places. The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people. Blessed be God!

Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:19-20

It’s quite pleasant here today. It’s overcast and cooler. I’m so glad to see the horrible heat wave end! I feel sorry for people in trailers or who don’t have central air conditioning. It had to be awful.

I went back and read again the information on the G.I. Bill for college and I think Jim will not be eligible because of how long ago he got out of the service. It sure would have been nice to get that tax free money!

I got a full sized can of Enfamil in the mail today with $9.00 in coupons. I also got a $12.00 coupon for any Revlon product and $1.50 off Yesterday’s News cat litter (that’s the brand we use for Patches). I have several checks due in the mail really soon from taking surveys, also. I told you it does pay to take the surveys and it’s easy to do. Once in a while I’ll have 8 or so surveys waiting for me to take them or delete and I get overwhelmed but then I’ll be a big check in the mail and am so thankful!

I have a problem. I’ve not received the paperwork the state judge said he’d have sent out to me and I’m supposed to appear for jury duty on Monday. This is Wednesday and the mail came early. I called and left another message for them. I hope they call back soon but still, I don’t know how I’ll get over there to get the paperwork done and turned in before Monday. I’m guessing I’ll have to take Jim to work tomorrow and then what? The paperwork says to allow 20 minutes to go through security. Can you see me with two babies, going through security at the court house? I can’t even carry one and hang onto the other. Maybe they can email me the form and I can scan it and send it back signed. If I hear back, I’ll update before posting this. ** Updated: The judge’s assistant returned my call and said the judge removed my name from the list, marked me off, and she’ll mail the paperwork in the next few days for me to fill out and return. I do not have to go to the courthouse. Whew.

Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

My computer is still running so slowly. I ran a number of tests. The test on the hard drive wouldn’t start up. Nick was playing Call of Duty in the online mode on his PS2, which goes through my computer. I’m guessing that was the problem. I can’t find scan disc, tho. I haven’t scanned my computer in years. I seem to remember having it set to scan by itself but didn’t find it under scheduled tasks. I defragmented, chkdsk’d, cleaned all the *.tmp files out and still it’s running very slowly. I ran all the other system tests and everything was fine. Hey, I found the scan disk. It’s under check disc on XP. Ran that and things are still slow.

Jim and I ate a quick supper and then we went to the dump and then the grocery store before picking up Nick at church. Nick helped me scan the groceries for AC Nielsen Home Scan and put them away. It took quite a while. We got loads of staples and about 8 days worth of meats. Jim’s a great grocery shopper and we went to Piggly Wiggly, which is laid out well.

Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

Both daycare parents ran late tonight so even if I had made plans to go to youth, I’d have missed out. Nick left at 5:40 with our neighbor and I had gotten a call after 5:00 saying the two year old’s mother was still in the court room. She is never late, so I certainly cannot complain. The other child left at the time youth starts. I’ve come to the conclusion that God has other plans for this year. I still have the 7th grade girls in Sunday School and we’ll cook breakfast until we get a new youth minister and he decides how he’d like Sunday morning run. Then we’ll back off and let him do it, if he so chooses. It makes Sunday more rushed, but the kids appreciate it and expect it.

Tomorrow night is a middle school football game out of town. I don’t expect Jim home until around 8:00. If the high school game on Friday night is local, I may go with him on Friday night. Of course, I can’t be with him, so why go? He’s down on the field keeping stats and then comes home and puts it down on paper. Never mind. I’ll watch t.v. and go to bed early. I have to be up and out of the house before 7:00 on Saturday to run an errand. That’ll be hard but it’s not a regular type thing.

Well, it’s late and y’all should be in bed soon. I know I should. Have a lovely evening, sweet dreams and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

1 Kings 3:11-14 "God said to him, "Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself long life, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have you asked for the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself discernment to understand justice, behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you. "I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days. "If you walk in My ways, keeping My statutes and commandments, as your father David walked, then I will prolong your days."

"Is not your fear of God your confidence,
and the integrity of your ways your hope? Job 4:6

"Better is the poor who walks in his integrity
than he who is crooked though he be rich."
Proverbs 28:6

I sure slept hard last night. It’s so pleasant at night. It gets down to 60° and the house gets a little chilly. I love chilly weather! I sleep so well.

"How long will you lie there, you lazy person?
When will you get up from sleeping?" Proverbs 6:9

The two year old I keep had only slept a short time last night, staying awake really late and waking at 4:30, so she took a long morning nap. I got a lot of housework and laundry done during that time. The one year old sits glued to Sesame Street or some other toddler show and the only sound she makes is to ‘talk’ to Big Bird or another character. She’s mesmerized!

Nick sleeps late now. He’s a typical teen in that way. We do his school work late mornings and afternoons. I’d read that little kids learn the most right after waking but teens need extra sleep and are ready to learn after lunch. I let Nick wake up, eat, shower, play his PS2 for a while, lift weights and then we begin his schooling. He still gets in his full day of work, finishing before 5:00 p.m. His favorite PS2 game is Call of Duty. It’s a very accurate portrayal of WWII, with dates of battles, commander names, information on the areas and quotes from famous people. He can tell you when each battle began, how long it lasted and the casualties. He can also tell you which countries fought in each area and when different countries, including the U.S., got involved in the war. I like that he’s learning as he plays and I also enjoy watching him play and reading the quotes from such notable people.

A young soldier, age 21, from our tiny town was killed in Iraq. His parents are pillars of the community. The father is a local high school teacher and newspaper editor. His mother is also a local high school teacher and writes for the paper. I’m sure they’re devastated and yet, proud. We’re organizing a plan to line the route of the hearse from the airport with people with flags or stationary flags. The sheriff’s department will escort and we’re working on the fire department, too.

Jim’s a proctor for the 8th grade Iowa tests this week so his schedule is off. He always calls home during lunch to check on us. Isn’t he sweet? He’ll call again before football practice begins and then again when the game is over and he’s on his way home. He’s such a wonderful husband. I’m really blessed to have him. God is so good to me.

A gentle rain moved in this afternoon and dropped our temperature to the 60°’s. It’s already cooler than the expected low for tonight. The news says we’ll get a bit of rain from a tropical storm that came in through Texas. That’ll be good for us.

Nick went along to the middle school football game this afternoon to film it for the coaches. He does a great job. We sure do need a tripod, tho. It’s hard to move side to side smoothly when a play is quickly advancing. Again, tho, Nick does a great job.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely , whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."

Malachi 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

1 Peter 4:7 The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. 8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Cheerfully share your home with those who need a meal or a place to stay. 10 God has given gifts to each of you from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Manage them well so that God's generosity can flow through you.

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to Him in song. Psalm 28:7

The band of rain from the tropical storm is missing us by just miles. We’ve had dark skies and the rumble of thunder, but nothing more than a steady drizzle so far. I’m hoping we’ll get our share of rain before the day is over.

Jim has off tonight! No football practice! He’s not going to the high school game, either. He’s not a paid coach there and it’s out of town, toward all the rain. We need some together time! I hope the rain doesn’t hold up my parents too late tonight. I’d like to have supper at a ‘normal’ time.

I talked to our Jon for a long time today. He’s working 12 hours a day and seven days a week. He’d found someone to cover for him for a few hours today. He sounded so very tired. He’s hoping to find a job on day shift without losing too much money. He’s a supervisor and there’s no openings on days at the company he’s worked for all these years. He’s such a hard worker and a very loyal person.

I’m so glad this week is over. I’m tired, tho I’ve slept pretty well all week. I’ve gotten a lot done, but haven’t done anything enjoyable. I can’t read because the two year old talks constantly. I can’t do needle crafts while the babies are here, either. I can’t go downstairs and sew because I can’t watch them and sew. I’d tried some fabric painting but one of them grabbed an edge and ruined the project.

I know Jim is glad this week is over. He’s proctored tests all week and that’s over 4 hours of quiet time watching kids to make sure they’re not cheating or disruptive. He said the days have gone so slowly. Next week they’ll be back to normal. It’s not long until they have fall break! School began the 9th of August.

Whoops! The rain has started. It’s pretty heavy. I hope it doesn’t stop for a long time! I’d already brought Scooter in. I put him out after the girls ate lunch so they could run around and squeal without him knocking them over or hogging the sofa.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Sunday is baby dedication at our church. I’m sure it sounds awful, but I don’t enjoy those ceremonies. They take a long time, taking away from the regular service, and some come for that and must not take it seriously because they aren’t in church every Sunday, doing what they pledged to do.

So, that being said, this Sunday we’re going to Sunday School, but are not going to church. There are free concerts or plays almost each Sunday afternoon in Atlanta. They’re really sort of dress rehearsals for concerts that are given during the week nights for pretty hefty admission prices. We surely don’t mind it being a dress rehearsal! We have had two short vacations in almost 13 years. They were actually a time that Nick and I went with Jim on business trips and took advantage of Disney World or the beach. The last one was over 8 years ago! We’re using these afternoons out as a ‘trip’, as it were.

I love the sound of rain! It’s so peaceful to me. I can sleep like a baby when it’s raining. I heard the soft rain last night and the cool breeze was quite chilly. Fall is such a wonderful time. It lasts a long time in Georgia, once it starts. We’ll have mid 50°’s for our lows. Excellent!

I sure miss the snow and winters we had in Connecticut. I don’t miss the liberal, democratic attitude and lack of Southern Baptist churches. I don’t miss the gangs and being afraid to go to the mall. I don’t miss the drive by shootings on playgrounds. I don’t miss the ridiculous property taxes and public schools with classes taught in Spanish. If I could just find some land here with good dirt and green grass and build my dream home….. I’d love to be able to work in my flowerbeds every day again! I bet I’d lose those last few pounds, too.

Speaking of weight, my blue jeans are baggy now. I’m quite pleased and can’t wait until I lose the rest. I’m down within the ‘healthy weight for height’ the AMA and CDC recommends. My BMI is just over the recommended ‘under 25’ calculation. I’m thinking 9 – 10 more lbs. Hurrah!

James 1:2-4 "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

The little baby’s dad got caught in traffic again because of the weather and is to be very late getting here. Friday nights are always late. We’d hoped to go out to eat. We have a gift certificate from a friend and wanted to go to Olive Garden. By time the dad got here, the line would be so long and the waiter always seems to rush you through your meal when people are waiting. We’ll go another time.

Jim took Nick out for a while, tho, while I waited on the father. I had steak thawed out for the weekend so I’m going to make that for tonight instead. We have to be up and out really, really early tomorrow morning. We’ll go to bed right after MONK tonight so we’re rested for tomorrow. If the rain holds off, we’re going to the girl’s softball game. Jim was asked to film it for the coach and girls.

No daddy yet and it’s time to cook supper. Hope you have a lovely weekend!

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18

We had a really nice Saturday. Jim and I both woke way too early. My arm had fallen asleep and it woke me at 2:30. I didn’t get back to sleep until almost 5:00 and had to be up at 6:30. Jim woke at 4:00 and got up at 5:00. That wasn’t fun, but the rest of the day went well.

We had an early morning errand so we got that done. We chatted all the while and really enjoyed our time together. About 10:00, we went over to City Park to see if the middle school girls were playing softball. The fields were still too wet, tho. We decided to go to Olive Garden for lunch. We still had a good amount of money on a gift certificate Jim got for his birthday. We both got the unlimited soup, salad and bread. Of course, we didn’t get seconds on anything except the breadsticks and I ended up bringing three of them home. It was a nice ‘date time’ for us, where we could talk all grown up talk. Very lovely!

After lunch, Jim watched the CUBS while I took a nap. Scooter slept next to Jim on the sofa. Nick played his PS2 in his room and I went into our bedroom, put in a movie and slept for over an hour. After the first CUBS game, I watched Clean House. I cannot believe the authorities don’t find out the addresses of those homes and remove the children! Horrible! I complain and say my house isn’t clean and yet my garage storage area is cleaner than the kitchens in those homes. Today was ‘The Messiest Home in America’ and the middle aged mother blamed everything on her kids, yet fought to keep everything as it was! She kept saying rude things about her daughters and saying they were messy, yet her room was a pig sty. Horrible! I think this show could last a full week and they’d still be shocking me. ICK!

When I complain my house is not clean, I am referring to needing new carpet or needing to scrub the baseboards or dust items that can only be reached on a six foot ladder. I’m referring to the red clay dust that seeps in through the windows and NOT clutter filth or piles of junk! We had out of state company six days after moving in and everything, everything, everything was unpacked and in its place. Every picture was hung, everything done.

We haven’t decided exactly what we want do to tomorrow afternoon. Jim’s going to move my Weigelia. We’ve chosen a few places it might go. Jim suggested a place out front because it’s a gorgeous bush and can grow very large. We have a spot that gets full sun and doesn’t have much grass. We’d be able to see the bush from all the front windows and it would be viewable by people coming to visit or from some areas of the street. We have to get some top soil to mix into the hole, once we get that dug, so the plant will survive.

One of the Boxwoods in my flowerbed up against the house must have an infestation of some sort. It’s been eaten away and has a dead spot about the size of a dessert plate. There are four in a small bed, with a number of Nandina. I’ve pretty much determined that one needs to be dug up and the other three moved around. My plants are maturing and don’t fit well anyhow. I don’t want to put anything larger because we have lovely old red brick on the front of the house and gray shutters around the windows. Anything tall would cover too much, including the downstairs window. I really dislike Boxwoods. I’ve always disliked Boxwoods. They’re the bane of well designed yards. I’d throw them out, but I don’t like ‘killing’ anything. If I don’t use them, they’ll be Freecycled.

Behind the Nandinas are numerous small Nandinas that I can dig up and move. I did that last year and created a shrub wall that hides the central air unit out back…. For free! Now I have all these others I can move elsewhere. I just have to decide where to put them or even offer them on Freecycle. They reappear constantly because of the berries seeding themselves or off-shoots.

Well, I want to watch House and enjoy the evening with my family.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous runs into it and is safe."
Proverbs 18:10

What a nice, peaceful Sunday we’ve had. I have really enjoyed it.

We woke to temperatures in the high 40°’s. Oh how I love fall weather! I grabbed the quilt at the foot of our bed and covered us up. We keep our windows all open and sleep so well this time of year.

My uncle and aunt were in a horrible car accident yesterday. They’ll be okay but my aunt has a broken foot and they are both in horrible pain. I’m so thankful they’ll be okay. My mother is quite upset about it. She can’t help care for them because she’s just recently had major surgery on her sinuses and upper jaw, including a bone marrow transplant and bone being put in her upper jaw, taken from her hip.

Next Sunday our class is going to have the 7th and 8th grade boys join us. Their teacher will be gone. We’ll have four teachers, with Jim, me and two others. One of the other ladies is going to do the core teaching. We all join in, of course. Our girls are so mature; it’ll be good for the boys to see them embrace the teachings of Christ.

You will restore me to even greater honor and comfort me once again.
Psalm 71:21

I’ve only recently discovered www.Godtube.com The father of the youngest baby I keep told me about it. Wow! There are some amazing skits and teachings, as well as Christian songs with video. Be sure to check it out.

I have to believe some of you prayed for me. A few weeks ago I mentioned feeling ‘numb’. That spirit of oppression has lifted. Satan has been bound. Thank you so very much for your prayers and shared devotionals.

Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.
Psalm 119:50

Jim starts a class tomorrow night. It’s a primer to show him how things are done and submitted to Western Governors University. He’s really excited to get started. There was a hold up because the local college had a hold on his scholarships and we had to send over a paper asking them to release the funds so he could apply it to WGU. Hopefully that’ll clear quickly.

I don’t have anything planned for this week. I do need to go and vote on Tuesday in a special election. I wasn’t going to vote because I know very little about the candidates but I read and then researched something about one of the candidates and am going to vote against him, not for the other guy. I wonder if this guy knows how his ridiculous claims backfired. His claims of voter fraud are so far fetched. He scares me!

I always look forward to the new television season. I remember years ago there were always a lot of great new shows from which to choose. Now you have to be so careful, as a Christian. Hopefully there’ll be some decent shows. We don’t watch any reality or those locked on an island type shows.

Now let your unfailing love comfort me, just as you promised me, your servant. Psalm 119:76

Well, I guess I’m pretty short on words today. We enjoyed our day and time together and wish you all a lovely week to come.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Where is another God like you, who pardons the sins of the survivors among his people? You cannot stay angry with your people forever, because you delight in showing mercy. Micah 7:18

A new week and another adventure in life. Happy Monday, y’all.

This was an easy day. I had just the two year old and she was worn out from a weekend away, traveling to a cousin’s birthday party. She was falling asleep by 9:30 and slept until lunch time.

I’d not gotten out all the baby stuff, since I’d forgotten to ask the baby’s dad if he was going to work overtime today and I’d not heard from them last night. The house looks so ‘normal’ when the high chair, baby toys and Pack ‘n Play are not out. It’s so much easier to make my bed, vacuum and sweep when those things are not out. She’s getting older, so I’ll move the Pack ‘n Play downstairs next to the one I have Hailee nap in soon. I don’t ‘see’ that all day so it’s outta sight, outta mind.

I’d done laundry Sunday night while Jim watched football and baseball so I had only a tiny load to do today. I’d also vacuumed my bedroom in case the little baby came. That was a nice head start on the day.

I’d told you about the free concerts at Emory, well we found another college, only 15 miles from here, also has free concerts several times a week. The weeknight concerts all begin at 8:00 or 8:15, so I can go with Jim. Wow! Imagine that! Me. Going somewhere!

My Aunt Edith is flying home today. She’s been with my mother almost a month. She has taken care of her after the surgery and kept her company. I know she’s missed her little grandson so much. She talks to them every day, but that’s not the same. With my uncle and his wife injured, they’ll have a few relatives trying to do for all of them.

I never get to talk to our three grandchildren. Their parents are so busy.

Hey, you know how I complain about the dust? Well, I’ve discovered the Pledge claim is true that if you dust with Pledge, you don’t have to dust as often. The only thing is… where does that dust GO? Now if I could only keep it out of the house all together. Send me grass, people! I need a backyard filled with grass!

It only got down to 59° over night. Not cool enough for me. Our high was supposed to hit 80°. I just love fall weather. I can’t wait until our high is 60° - 70° with lows in the upper 30°’s – low 40°’s. Perfect weather! It’s almost never dreary in Georgia. I like a good rain and thunderstorm. The weather doesn’t depress me, tho I hate summers here.

I want to start walking Scooter. He’s so large and very strong. I do walk him in our front yard if it’s raining, muddy and at night before bed, but I’d like to talk him on neighborhood walks. Since he’s only been walked twice, I’d like to have someone with me in case he pulls on the leash. I wouldn’t want him to get away from me or pull me down. He’s easily trained. When I take him down the stairs I’d say ‘wait’ and he’d stop. Now he goes down three steps and stops, turns to look at me and doesn’t move until my feet are on the same step as his back feet. I’d enjoy the walk and need the exercise. I like playing with him out back, but our yard slopes badly and has a lot of rocks so it’s very easy to slip down. We picked up rocks several times over the years but every rain exposes more. One misstep and you’ll slip, slide and fall. I don’t like walking him out back after dark because the man behind us has a Bat house and the Bats swoop down at you. That gives me the creeps.

I just read this horrible news: As Joni Eareckson Tada recently reported in World Magazine, "Up until this year, they recommended that only older women who were pregnant be tested. But now, all mothers-to-be are routinely tested. The results? Over 90 percent of pregnant women who are given a Down syndrome diagnosis choose to have an abortion." That's right, 90 percent of children diagnosed in the womb with Down syndrome are being killed before they can be born. You can read the full article here
http://www.battlefortruth.org:80/ under the heading ‘What is Normal?’

We have so many Hummingbirds and Butterflies right now. They’re just gorgeous. We have so many different types of Butterflies, too. Blue, black and white, yellows with names I don’t remember plus Monarchs and Viceroys galore.

Apple Cider, Pumpkin Pie, Hard Molasses Cookies, homemade soups, Chili, Banana Nut Bread…. YUM! Those are just a few autumn foods I love. Maybe I’ll make some homemade breads this week. I’ll need to go to the store first and get some raisins and other ingredients.

I talked to my mother for over an hour today. Now that she’s home, alone, I want to keep in touch to try and keep her spirits up. She’s got a long time before she can eat out or even go out shopping. This will be the hardest time since the surgery, being alone.

I got my paperwork to be excused from jury duty which started today. It had to be notarized so I had our church secretary do it for me. I'm glad I didn't have to worry about that.

Time to start supper, here. Have a lovely evening. I hope you don’t have to watch football if you don’t like sports!

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Psalm 8 O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth, who have set Your glory above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.

When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, what is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honor.

You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, all sheep and oxen, even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea that pass through the paths of the seas.

O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth!

"Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise the fruit of lips that confess his name." Hebrews 13:15

And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. Hebrews 13:16

Another lovely day in N.W. Georgia! It was quite cool last night. We pulled up the quilt around 3:00 a.m. I love, love, love sleeping in a chilly room! I’m hoping for low 50°’s tonight.

Both girls were here today and both took long morning naps. The two year old had gotten up at 5:30, so she was quite tired by 9:30 or 10:00. The one year old always starts to doze off in the high chair during breakfast. I had to stop the two year old from chasing and hitting the cat. Poor Kitty. It happened several times so the cat was not happy at all. The little one, age 14 months, always fusses a lot the first day back. She wants to be held all the time. She has an 8 year old and 4 year old sister and they carry her around. I won’t do it. I don’t start things I don’t want to do all the time. She’ll be fine tomorrow.

After I mentioned yesterday about moving the little one’s bed downstairs, I went ahead and did it. She gets cold very easily. That was proved during the summer when the air was on. I have four windows in my bedroom and bath and I keep them open until it’s too cold all day. That would have been hard for her. Closing them would have robbed me of enjoying this chilly weather. The room downstairs has two windows, but I keep them closed most of the time so that room stays about 72° year round. Hailee sleeps there already, so I moved the baby’s bed down and they napped near each other. Both fall asleep to the television, so I put in a movie and they don’t make a sound. The room is dark enough to make it nice for sleeping, too. So, my bedroom looks like my bedroom again with no baby toys or beds. I’m glad I did that. I’d done it with the other children, once they were over a year old.

I put some things on www.freecycle.org today and had numerous people wanting them and the lady who replied first is coming this evening to get a child’s dresser that’s too immature looking for Nick and not something I need for storage. I’d moved it downstairs for the grandchildren.

I have some things to list on Ebay, too. Since Ebay is a pain to do, I get everything ready and do it at once. I also choose a time of day to do it when I know most people would be home so the auction ends at a good time.

I need to get that all done before Jim starts his schooling on October 1st. He’ll need the computer for 4 hours a night. I sure don’t mind. I’ve lost interest in the internet except for news, this forum and bill paying online. I may spend less than an hour a day online, except for my surveys. I consider the surveys a ‘job’ because of the money I earn. I’m so proud of Jim. He’s such a wonderful husband and best friend.

I saw a very quick dessert in an email from Kraft today. You mix up an instant pudding, they used chocolate. Divide it into four small bowls and top each with 1 Tbsp. peanut butter. MICROWAVE on HIGH 30 sec. or until peanut butter begins to melt and pudding is heated through. Top each serving with 1 Tbsp. of the whipped topping. If regular pudding, Cool Whip and peanut butter are used, the calorie count is 270 and 12 grams of fat. But hey, we need the milk and the protein from the peanut butter and chocolate is so good for the soul!

It’s not gotten over 74° with 20 mph winds here today. Nick commented on the lovely weather and how ‘all’s right with the world’ it makes you feel. He’s like me when it comes to the weather. He loves a good thunderstorm and autumn is his favorite season, too.

Wow I am glad I didn’t have to do jury duty! The trial that began on Monday was a murder trial. A preteen boy strangled an 8 year old to death a few years ago. I was so upset when it happened because of the cold and heartless death. Because of the size of the two of them, it took her several minutes for her to lose consciousness and then die. The boy got time in juvenile detention for a few years because of his age. I would have wanted the death penalty. A 16 year old mentally retarded boy has since confessed to the crime and now he’s being tried for the same murder. I don’t believe he did it. He gave all the wrong details, was large enough to quickly kill her and has never been in any sort of trouble before. The other boy has always been in trouble and had not been allowed in public school for years. The little girl’s father had to be restrained in court last year. I would have hated having to hear the details and look into the eyes of the killers or the parents.

As soon as Jim gets home, we’re going to vote. The polls close at 7:00 so it might be a rush. It only takes a minute. It’s less than two miles from here and you are in and out very quickly. I’m hoping I can guess and have dinner ready when we get home. We’re having an Italian dish tonight.

"I have chosen the way of truth; I have set Your ordinances before me." Psalm 119:30

Well, I need to get my dish put together and in the oven so we can eat at a decent time tonight. Enjoy your evening and enjoy the lovely fall weather!

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

1 Peter 1:22 Now you can have sincere love for each other as brothers and sisters because you were cleansed from your sins when you accepted the truth of the Good News. So see to it that you really do love each other intensely with all your hearts.

It’s been a little hectic here today. I washed some heavy items that we use only occasionally plus the bath rugs. I dusted the really high ceiling areas with a tool the bug man gave me a few years ago. I vacuumed and swept, plus did the usual things. We’re not allowed to have clotheslines here but I put the bath rugs on the railing of my porch to dry in the sun. The dryer is hard on those rubber backed items.

The two babies slept a lot this morning. Both moms warned me they would. The one year old is teething and woke at 2:30 this morning, up for over an hour. She was fussy this afternoon. The two year old had gotten up at 4:00 a.m. and stayed up. She goes to bed early. She’s not eating well at all. She was a great eater until about 2 months ago.

I have a lead on a possible newborn to keep. The mother has two people to interview already. She’d gotten my name from several people. It’s not year round, and since she’s a teacher, would mean no income during the two winter holidays or summer. It would be nice, tho, to not have a lot of kids when Jim is off for the holidays and summer. Hope she’ll interview me if God has that in HIS plan for us.

"What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things." Philippians 3:8

Jim has a tutorial phone call tonight that takes an hour or more. It’s at 9:00. He has to be in a quiet room or have the phone on mute. I’ll probably go into our room to watch television and Nick can play his game in his room so we don’t disturb him.

The little local newspaper today has a story about my street. One of our neighbors was moving out. They left behind a few truck loads to pick up later. Their neighbor broke into their house six times and took almost everything. When the moving family returned for their items, they found the house had been ransacked. While talking to the police, the husband noticed his neighbor had his drapes hanging in her front window and his children’s toys in her driveway! Can you believe it? People are weird!

My wedding rings are spinning round and round on my hands now. My jeans are getting baggy. I’m so very glad! I’d love to lose 10 lbs before our anniversary on October 10th, but I don’t expect to. The last 10 lbs is always the hardest to lose.

37 years! Can you believe it? And they called it Puppy Love. Not really. I am truly blessed!

Job 1:21 "The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord"

Job 42:10 When Job prayed for his friends, the LORD restored his fortunes. In fact, the LORD gave him twice as much as before! 11 Then all his brothers, sisters, and former friends came and feasted with him in his home. And they consoled him and comforted him because of all the trials the LORD had brought against him. And each of them brought him a gift of money and a gold ring. 12 So the LORD blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand teams of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys.

As soon as Jim gets in, we have to run to the dump. It closes at 7:00 on weeknights and doesn’t open before he’s at work. We don’t like to have bags of garbage even in the large can in the garage. Baby diapers and all…… It’s only four miles from here and just two miles from our church. After that, we can pick up Nick from Youth Group at church. He’ll eat supper before he goes.

Well, time to start supper and see the little kids off to mom and dad. Have a lovely evening.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Romans 1:5 Through Christ, God has given us the privilege and authority to tell Gentiles everywhere what God has done for them, so that they will believe and obey him, bringing glory to his name.

Luke 6: 43 "A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. 44 A tree is identified by the kind of fruit it produces. Figs never grow on thorn bushes or grapes on bramble bushes. 45 A good person produces good deeds from a good heart, and an evil person produces evil deeds from an evil heart. Whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 46 "So why do you call me 'Lord,' when you won't obey me?

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Hasn’t this week gone fast? Wow! I’ve really accomplished a lot. The cool weather inspires and ignites me. It energizes me.

Usually I can work it out so that both babies nap at the same time once a day but it didn’t work out today. Both were in wonderful moods, but one arrived sleepy and the other wasn’t sleepy until after lunch. The older will play near me while I clean or fold clothes. The younger one is too young to not be watched every second. I have baby gates to trap them in the room.

I’m excited the new television season is about to start. I’m so tired of reruns! I’m really sick of sports, too. Jim’s a CUBS fan. Looks like I’ll have the play-offs and possibly the World Series to endure. Oh well. The CUBS make it this far about every 65 years so I’m guessing this is my ‘once in a lifetime’ event.

We have five free concerts at the college in the next town in October. A number of them are very interesting. We were looking for something fun to do that is free and here it is!

2 Chronicles 7:13 " When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 and if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and heal their land. 15 I will listen to every prayer made in this place,

Tonight is the football game so Jim will get home later than usual. It’s a home game, but they play at the high school. Nick really doesn’t want to go and film this one. Unless a miracle occurs and they win the next three games, they won’t make it into the playoffs. That means football will be over soon. Jim might coach girl’s basketball. He’s already coaching baseball in the spring. He gets paid extra for each sport.

My uncle and aunt who were in the wreck are not doing well at all. They were taken back to the hospital today for more tests. My uncle has a spinal problem already and it seems he may have done some serious damage. My aunt’s foot is broken but can’t be set until the swelling goes down. Their oldest daughter is the one who had gastric bypass. She was rushed back to the hospital and is undergoing surgery again today. This is operation number 10 or 11. I’ve lost count.

My mother is doing well but is still concerned about driving or walking more than a few yards without something to hang onto. She was counting on the above relatives to help her out and now they’re unable to care for themselves. Mother is concerned because a storm is moving into her area and she’s short on a few items. She doesn’t go to church nor have any friends to call on. She goes back to Birmingham in a few weeks for another follow up on her surgery. I’m so glad she’s doing well. The next few weeks will be the hardest, since she can’t go out to eat and now has no one to do things with.

I had 9 surveys awaiting me when I checked our email this morning. I did those right away because I get overwhelmed when there’s a bunch. I finished one and got a note that I’d receive $10.00 for answering those questions (on dog food). That always make me feel guilty when I’m groaning to myself about doing them and 10 minutes earns money. I had a few more to do this afternoon, but they were very short.

I had leftovers for supper. I was quite hungry and didn’t want to wait until after 7:00 to eat. Nick had made his own supper a bit earlier than I did. The kitchen is cleaned and the dishwasher emptied. It should be an easy evening here.

Hope you’re enjoying the fall weather!

God Bless,

A devotional I got today included this amazing quote.

Helen Keller once said, “Dark as my path may seem to others, I carry a magic light in my heart. Faith is a spiritual searchlight illuminating the way. Through sinister doubts, I walk unafraid, into the presence of the Lord.”

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good report. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.’
Hebrews 11:1-3

"A bleeding heart is no help to anybody if it bleeds to death." Rev. Frederick Buechner

Yesterday ended up being a VERY long day. The youngest baby was here until after 7:15. She was very good but was getting hungry and tired by time daddy got here to pick her up. Hailee had been gone for 2 hours. If it had to happen, I’m glad it was on football game night so it didn’t mess up our family meal time!

Today got off to a slow start. I’d gotten something in my eye and it hurt so badly! I couldn’t find it to get it out. I have an eye wash cup and eye drops but those didn’t help. Using those stung quite badly. I finally gave up and just sat with my eye closed for a while. I still have the sensation of ‘something in my eye’. It moves, so I think there’s really something there.

"I have held many things in my hands and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God's hands, that I still possess." Martin Luther

Jim got a raise! Because of his military service and being an Army Officer, they upped his level to three years experience. He brought home a letter from personnel with the info. That was a very nice surprise!

We got a letter in the mail saying we had to prove Nick is our son before he’ll be covered on our insurance, which starts October 1st. Thank the Lord, the clerk of the court had given us a number of notarized documents at the time of his adoption, 12 years ago in November. I filled out the paper, provided the needed document and drove them to the post office last night so they’ll get it, in Atlanta, by Monday.

Speaking of Nick, we measured him yesterday when he had his shoes off and he’s just under 5’5” and 104 lbs at 12 years, 8 months, 3 weeks of age. He’s more than 3 inches taller than me. He’s so handsome. I haven’t taken a picture of him since his half sisters were here the end of June.

Poor Nick. The two year old cannot understand why he doesn’t want to play Barbie Dolls with her instead of doing his schoolwork. She pushes the doll into his face while he’s reading and Barbie says, ‘How are YOU today, Nick?’ She also tries to help him with math. When he mentions a number, she starts counting. Loudly. When he’s doing spelling or writing answers on other pages, she calls out E, T, I, Nick. E T I! She so funny.

Jim’s going to film the girl’s softball game for the coach. He’s works in one of her classes and had offered to do it for them. The game today is just down the road from us and begins at 4:00. He’ll be home earlier than usual. The teacher who takes pictures for the yearbook can’t go, so Jim’s taking still shots for that, too. I didn’t ask if he’s going to the high school game tonight. I assume not. I hope not. He’s tired this week and is doing something with our son, Jon, tomorrow.

I can’t decide what I want to make for supper. I have two ideas. I’m thinking Shepherd’s Pie right now. Everybody loves it and it’s pretty easy to make. I can have it close to ready and then complete it at the last minute. I’m hoping all the kids are gone on time. Friday nights always seem to be a late night for one of them.

It’s time for the first parent to arrive and me to start supper. Have a lovely evening and enjoy the nice breeze. I know I am!

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

James 1:17 "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow."

Sunday, September 23rd is the Autumn Equinox, one of only two times during a year when the sun crosses the celestial equator. The sun is directly above the equator causing the length of day and night to be equal. No variation and no shifting shadow. The sun rises due East and sets due West. The day means the beginning of autumn for us but is one of eight annual sabbats for Witches or Wiccans. Maybe we should pray, tomorrow, for the misguided souls in our area who are caught up in the lies of the beast.

I was up way to early today. My eye was bothering me. I thought I might have pink eye but it seems I just scratched it or am being bothered really badly by allergies. It was glued shut and something pinched me (Maybe I turned on the pillow pulling my eyelashes?), waking me at 4:00 a.m. It’s not pink today, tho, and not watering. Whatever was in it yesterday must have irritated it. Our insurance starts October 1st.

That being said, I took a three hour nap on the sofa from about 11:45 – 2:30. I woke for a few minutes, chilled, and went back to sleep after Nick grabbed a sheet and covered me.

Jim and I went to the middle school girl’s softball game this morning. The weather is so beautiful! We enjoyed being out in it and talking to the teachers, coaches and administrators. They’re such a nice group of people. The girls were losing 3- 0 the top of the 5th inning but scored 7 runs to win the game.

So, we did a few chores and I did two loads of clothes but then Jim watched the Cubs game and I have just been lazy. Everything is so scheduled during the week that it’s nice to do what we want, when we want on Saturday.

Not much else going on so have a nice evening and

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Luke 5:37-38 "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled out, and the skins will be ruined. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins."

Jesus calls us to come to him, ‘Just as I am’, but we cannot remain ‘The Way We Were’.

It’s a peaceful Sunday, here in Villa Rica. It’s too warm out for my taste, but lovely all the same. We’re going to have highs in the mid 80°’s all week but lows in the 60°’s.

We had a GREAT Sunday School lesson today. The teacher for the 7th and 8th grade boys was away and they came in with us. I think they were a little surprised that the girls take the lesson so seriously and participate without being prodded. That being said, we finished our book ahead of most of the other classes, so next week we’re doing a ‘topic’ talk. The girls want to talk about school concerns. I need to look up some Bible verses about authority and doing your best, finishing the race and appearances to be prepared. If you see any devotionals for teens concerning school, forward them to me, please.

The weekend was nice, but went too fast. I’d love to have a three day weekend with no children to keep. Jim has off a day in October but I’ll have children. I’ll not have one of the babies three work days the week of Thanksgiving but I will probably have 2 older girls two of those days. It would be wonderful to have off the day before the holiday so I could prepare.

The new television season is starting! No more reruns! I have only seen one new series that appeals to me, but I’ve actually not read up to see what all is beginning. I’ve always enjoyed the new season and used to get a t.v. guide, once a year, to read up and make up a schedule of shows I wanted to check out. Television is our main form of entertainment.

My husband, Jim, is so excited! He was born outside of Chicago in 1947 and has been a CUBS fan his whole life. We’ve gone to a lot of games at Wrigley. The CUBS are really playing well and has a good chance of making it to the World Series. Jim switches between games, watching the rivals. I hope they get to go to the World Series. It’s been 99 years since they won the World Series and the last time they made it that far was 2 years before Jim was born. 62 years. Six more games til the play-offs! They won again today. Jim and Nick are glued to the television.

My uncle and aunt who were in the wreck are hanging in there. My uncle is in a lot of pain. He already has a spinal condition. My aunt has a bad back but broke her foot in three places. She goes for an MRI on Monday and possible surgery to reset the bones. Their daughter is out of the hospital and will continue to have surgery every two weeks because of her gastric bypass going badly.

My mother seems to be doing very well. I’ve noticed she forgets things I’ve told her. She’s realized it, tho, and is starting to read and do some word puzzles to keep her mind more active.

Well, it’s still too warm to suit me and the dog wants someone to play with. I hope y’all all have a nice week and have enjoyed the weekend.

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

"But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and good deeds. It shows no partiality and is always sincere." James 3:17

Welcome autumn!

It was supposed to get very warm today but it’s been overcast with a strong breeze. It’s just lovely here. We don’t have any leaves changing colors yet. I’m looking forward to that but am concerned that our dry season might rob us of that.

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven... Matthew 5:12

I started off doing laundry right away this morning and had it all done and put away before lunch. I have about 5 or 6 shirts to starch and iron. We usually take them to the cleaners. They charge less than a dollar a shirt and make them really stiff, like Jim prefers. I don’t have transportation to get them there or pick them up, now and we’re trying to cut costs in any way we can.

We plan to go out to dinner tonight. Jim had recorded a piano ‘concert’ for a man and burned some CD’s for him for free. The man gave us a gift card as a thank you. If Jim gets home at a decent hour, we’ll go tonight. There shouldn’t be a huge crowd on Monday night.

Our son Jon called first thing this morning. He has pinkeye and his eye is swollen shut. Poor guy! He was going to leave work to see the eye doctor for a 4:00 visit. One of his step daughters works at a daycare near their home and they wonder if she brought it home. He also has friends with small children. He doesn’t know anyone who has had pinkeye, tho. I hope the doctor will write an excuse for his work so he can take off a few days. He’s never taken sick days. ** Update: Jon called a little after 5:00 to say the doctor had removed a piece of plastic from his eye. He’d installed a deadbolt this weekend and it came with a plastic template and a drill bit. The plastic had broken while he was drilling and it was a few hours later that his eye began to bother him. He never put it together until the doctor showed him the plastic. He’ll be fine. He has a good sized scratch/ cut on his cornea but the doctor said it will heal itself in 48 hours and gave him some drops to prevent infection. Whew!

"Yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform." Romans 4:20-21

The youngest baby I keep took off her diaper this morning during her nap and wet the pack ‘n play. What a mess. She’s done this a few times now. I washed it and put it out in the hot sun so it dried before she fussed for her afternoon nap. While I was out, I got a bite on my cheekbone. It puffed up into a hive quite quickly. I find that odd because mosquito bites have never affected me but I’d gotten one a few weeks ago at night, again on my face, and it also turned into a hive right away. They go away within an hour or less, but it’s a change for me. Maybe my skin has thinned enough that I’ll see exaggerated responses now.

I went out and pulled up a slew of Maypop vines last night. They’d overtaken the flower garden in front of their trellis. Planting one Maypop two years ago was a BAD idea. It did nothing more than a small vine last year and this year is invasive! I’ll pull them up as they appear next year. They’d ‘fruited’ so I threw it all over the fence into the area of our yard we didn’t fence in. Our yard is slightly pie shaped and to enclose it all, we would have had to take down some great trees. Our neighbor kept his fence almost to his house so we have a large expanse between us where we both throw brush and grass clippings. That area is very wooded and not seen from the street so it’s perfect. Maypops, there, will be okay.

So, I was looking at my Butterfly Bushes in that flower garden last night and only one is falling over onto the very large Weigelia. They all have the potential to do the same, tho. The Weigelia needs to be removed and replanted. The garden is viewable from the living room, our master bedroom and the kitchen. It’s filled with butterflies and Hummingbirds. We don’t want to lose that. Once it cools a bit more, I’ll start working on a location and a hole for the Weigelia. Our clay is so very hard that it’s not easy to dig a hole, especially for a mature plant. I have a bird bath in the garden and need to move that also. It’s not being used by the larger birds and the one I had up in the backyard near a lot of our bird feeders cracked during the winter.

The little baby leaves early on Monday, when she comes. This is overtime for her dad. He works four 10 hour days, Tuesday through Friday. On Monday, he doesn’t work the 10 hours. Most nights she’s here until 6:30 or later. She gets some special time with Daddy before he picks up the other girls. That works well with us going out tonight, too.

A lizard was in the house today. Nick heard the cat screaming and went to see what was up. It was trapped in a corner so I picked it up and showed it to the two year old I keep. She grabbed it right out of my hand! What’s so amazing is she’s terrified of house flies but grabs a lizard. I got it back before she squished it and set it free out front where it’s safer. Lizards like the seasonal wreaths on my front door and we’ve had a few get in the house when I open the door. The last one was striped and very pretty, but he got caught in a sticky trap behind the head of our bed. I would NOT have liked waking in the middle of the night with something huge crawling on me. Poor guy lost his tail, and one leg seemed injured, but I set him free, too.

Tonight is the start of the new t.v. season. The only show we care to watch is CSI: Miami. We don’t really care for the show, but there’s nothing else to watch!

God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

“Don't worry about everyday life-whether you have enough food, drink, and clothes. Doesn't life consist more than food and clothing? ... And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won't he more surely care for you? ... Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs" Matthew 6:25, 30, 32

“He sustained 3 million Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years. Depend on it; God's work done in God's way will never lack God's supply." Hudson Taylor, Missionary

Wednesday is the Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon is the first full moon after the autumn equinox. The human eye sees a low hanging moon as being larger than one that is high in the sky. This is known as a Moon Illusion and can be seen with any full moon, not just a Harvest Moon. The yellow, golden, orange or reddish color of the moon stems from the fact that, when you see the moon low in the sky, earth’s atmosphere scatters the bluish component of white moonlight (which is really reflected sunlight) but allows the reddish component of the light to travel a straighter path to our eyes.

Well……… We went out to eat last night when Jim got home and were very disappointed. We’re not real ‘picky’ people, but the food was bad. We went to Longhorns because we’d been given a gift certificate. Nick and I got the lunch sized steaks and Jim got a Philly Steak. Halfway through his sandwich, Jim took his sandwich apart to see what the weird taste and texture was and found the cheese had the paper still attached. Neither Nick nor I could chew our steak. We had trouble cutting it because it was so stringy and had a lot of gristle. It was our first and possibly last time to eat at Longhorns. Jim wrote the company and complained.

We didn’t have a good night last night. Jim wakes thinking he’s choking and he’s coughing a new sounding cough. It happened twice last night and went on for several minutes. The ragweed is quite bad here. Our pollen was ‘extremely high’ yesterday. We all react to that. It’s supposed to rain this week so maybe that’ll get washed out of the air soon.

I don’t know what time Jim got up. I woke when my clock went off at 7:10. My first child arrived just minutes after I got the dog outside. Both little ones were still sleepy and took a long morning nap. I have them napping in the same room and they really seem to like that. They ‘talk’ for a minute or two before going to sleep. We have a very large rec room downstairs. It’s filled with toys, a sleep sofa, t.v. with VCR and DVD and the WII. I have the beds for the little ones in that room now. It’s always a perfect temperature, is very quiet and muted light from two shaded windows. Jim’s music room/ office is off of that, but he’s never home during the day to disturb them.

My weight loss has stalled again. I’m two pounds heavier than I was when we moved here 8 years ago. I’m about 10 lbs heavier than I’d love to be. I’m being very careful, eating healthy and small amounts, no snacks except yogurt or fresh fruit and yet, nothing for several weeks. I’m now in the range recommended by the AMA, etc., but my BMI is still just over 25.

So, now I have no clothes that fit. The waist of my size 12 jeans is 3 -4 inches too big. I honestly have no clothes to wear to church. Once winter arrives, I have some wool skirts, but no sweaters or shirts. I’m watching Freecycle for smaller clothes. I see lots of XL clothes and yesterday a woman wrote me asking how tall I am. She has winter skirts for a very tall, skinny woman. I’m only 5’2” so I declined.

I searched the websites of each network to plan our television viewing each week. We only like one show on NBC and not one on ABC. Other than reruns, there’s only not one show on Saturday and one on Monday that we’ll watch. I printed out a schedule today so we don’t miss out on any of our shows.

The two year old I keep hollers out the window, ‘Excuse me, skwer- rul. I want to touch you.’ (Squirrel) She’s so funny. She likes to tell me her puppy is ‘at work’. Mommy is at work. Daddy is at work and Roxie is at work. Both little ones are wired today. My poor cat! I bet you didn’t know that naked Barbie dolls can fly! The time out corner has been busy today.

We need to run out and get milk and maybe some popcorn or other healthier snacks for tonight when Jim gets home and we have had supper. I like pretzels and low fat dips. Maybe we’ll get that, too. I don’t snack after supper now, unless it’s fresh fruit or yogurt, but some teeny pretzels and my own mixture of fat free items for dip will be acceptable and low in calories.

Have a nice evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Isaiah 12:1 In that day you will sing: "Praise the LORD! He was angry with me, but now he comforts me. 2 See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The LORD GOD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation." 3 With joy you will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation!

4 In that wonderful day you will sing: "Thank the LORD! Praise his name! Tell the world what he has done. Oh, how mighty he is! 5 Sing to the LORD, for he has done wonderful things. Make known his praise around the world. 6 Let all the people of Jerusalem shout his praise with joy! For great is the Holy One of Israel who lives among you."

Oh I slept so very well last night. I fell asleep before ‘NCIS’ was off so I don’t know if it was really Tony who blew up in the car or not. I’d certainly doubt it. We’d watched ‘Bones’, ‘House’, ‘Law and Order: SVU’ and then turned to the west coast channels for ‘NCIS’. Guess I can look and see if he’s in the next episode. Yep. He is. I attempted to watch online, but it wouldn’t start up, no matter how many times I tried. I’ll try again later. Tonight we’ll watch ‘Back to You’ and ‘Criminal Minds’.

We had another incident with a fly today. Major meltdown! I worked on ‘Let me see your muscles. Big strong girl, teeny, tiny fly.’ We sang ‘Shoo fly, don’t bother me’ over and over, too. I hope it works soon. We almost had a choking emergency when the fly appeared and a mouth was full of lunch.

Football practice has been getting over earlier so Jim’s gotten home right at 6:00. Last night we took the trash to the dump and went to the grocery store after supper. The local dump closes at 7:00, so that was a bit of a rush, but we made it with about 10 minutes to spare. We got popcorn and my pretzels for snacking on last night while watching television.

Speaking of football, the kids have two more games in the regular season. We don’t expect them to make it to the play-offs. There’s a game tomorrow (Thursday) and then Oct. 4th. It was a fast season. Jim is paid for coaching and it’s a fun part time job. I’m so thankful for his coaching jobs!

It’s only a few days until Jim begins his first college class. We’re very excited about our future. It’ll take about a year or so for him to complete the courses and get his teaching certificate. We’ve laughed because he’ll get a chance at a good job about the time he could get his social security. We’re thinking we’ll wait until he’s 65 to take benefits, tho, so we’ll get more and half a year after he turns 65, I’ll qualify for reduced benefits (age 62). Nick will be about to enter college six months after that so I may just get a job as a para-pro at the same school where Jim teaches. The end will be better than the beginning.

I’m sleepy today. Probably boredom. This has been a VERY long day already. Both babies left early today. I was expecting the two year old to have to stay late but one of the major court cases was cancelled, so mom got out a few minutes early. There’s just a concert for the youth tonight and Nick didn’t want to go. He didn’t have a ride so it worked out fine.

I didn’t have to cook tonight. I’d made a big meal Tuesday and we had lots of leftovers. I’d made Shepherd’s Pie but used ground turkey instead of ground beef. It was very good.

Jim is teaching Nick to do the yard work. We have a slope in our yard and it’s almost a full acre. We only have a push mower. Nick was surprised how hard it is to control the lawnmower on the slopes. I’m terrified of our weed eater because it’s this massive thing, gasoline powered. The one time I tried to use it, it flung a stone into my leg that was mauled by the Akita back 13 years ago on October 10th. Part of my shin is just skin over bone (doesn’t look as bad as you’d think) and it really, really hurt. I’d rather worked 10 times harder and use the little electric Black and Decker instead.

Jim should be home soon, so time to warm up supper. I’ve started posting my blog earlier in the day because starting October 1st, Jim will be doing his school work online for 3 or 4 hours a night. I actually write my blog in Microsoft Word, adding a tiny bit during the day when the children are up and playing here in the television room or while I’m waiting for parents, etc. I don’t’ do it all at once.

Have a very nice evening and God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

Psalm 119:10-17 With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You! Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me Your statutes! With my lips I have declared All the judgments of Your mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, As much as in all riches. I will meditate on Your precepts, And contemplate Your ways. I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your word. Deal bountifully with Your servant, That I may live and keep Your word.

But we will not boast of authority we do not have. Our goal is to stay within the boundaries of God's plan for us, and this plan includes our working there with you. 2 Corinthians 10:13

They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green. Psalm 92:14

It’s Thursday! Another ‘work week’ is almost over! I’m looking forward to the weekend.

I do have a short meeting on Saturday morning. I’m a precinct captain for a run-off election on October 16th. I’ll probably get Jim to go with me and then we can stop by a Hobby Lobby in the next town. I love to look and will see all sorts of things I’d like to have but I’m thinking I just might find some ideas of things I can do with recyclables or things I already have around the house.

Jim has football tonight and the team and coaches are going to be introduced and honored tomorrow night at the high school football game. Of course, there’s a good chance of rain tonight.

Last night we watched ‘Back to You’. It’s funny, but 70% of the humor is based on body parts, double entendres or sex. That’s not funny. If that’s all they have, the show won’t last long. We’d not seen the first show so didn’t know what it was about. I like both lead actors. Too bad…

I was very disappointed to find that ‘Criminal Minds’ is losing Mandy Patinkin. His character is my favorite. I find him very believable and will really miss him on the show. I’m afraid it’ll lose its credibility with him gone. It appears his character will commit suicide. I hope not.

Tonight we’ll watch CSI, Without a Trace and Law and Order. CSI looks really interesting.

The girls were both up for a while this morning. Generally the smallest one falls asleep in her breakfast. Instead, both were up and very active until about 10:30 and then wanted to sleep. That threw lunch off a bit, but I got a lot done while they slept. The smallest one isn’t picked up until late so she eats a late supper. Eating lunch later shouldn’t be a problem for her. I think I’d better skip the snack for the 2 year old or she won’t eat supper.

Have you ever had used towels that are getting raggedy and turned them into smaller towels or wash cloths? I’ve got some towels that look so bad. I can’t go buy new towels and am not sure how to reuse these. Think, think, think. I could make a rug, but I don’t need a rug.

Boy do I need shirts and sweaters! I’ve had some sweaters since 1986 and they’ve finally gotten so very shabby. My shirts and turtlenecks are all Wal-Mart sale items and they look so bad. I can’t afford to buy new things but I’m a bit embarrassed at how bad my things look. I did some mending this morning and found some stains and noticed some stretched out areas I’d not noticed before. I’ll check in a few weeks and see if I have any money at the consignment shop so I can buy some things there.

Rain moved in and by time Jim and Nick got to the high school, tonight’s game had been cancelled and rescheduled for Monday night. I’ll get to go, I hope. I’m not supposed to have both girls on Monday but even if the little one comes, she usually leaves earlier that day.

This has been a CRAZY afternoon. I was glad to see parents in the driveway! We had a really nice supper of grilled steak, baked potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and onions and three bean salad. Very tasty!

I do hope you are enjoying this lovely fall weather. Have a very nice evening and God Bless,

Psalms 16:1 Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge. 2 I said to the LORD, "You are my Master! All the good things I have are from you." 3 The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! 4 Those who chase after other gods will be filled with sorrow. I will not take part in their sacrifices or even speak the names of their gods. 5 LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine. 6 The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance! 7 I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me.

8 I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. 9 No wonder my heart is filled with joy, and my mouth shouts his praises! My body rests in safety. 10 For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your godly one to rot in the grave. 11 You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.

So I commend the enjoyment of life,
because nothing is better for a man under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad.
Then joy will accompany him in his work all the days of the life God has given him under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 8:15

It’s Friday! It’s Friday!
I’m so excited that the weekend is here. I have a few ideas for fun things to do this weekend.

The CUBS are playing tonight (Friday), Saturday and Sunday afternoon. I’m going to make a ‘tailgate party’ for my guys. I’m thinking ballpark foods. I’m leaning toward hot dogs, roasted peanuts, nachos with cheese and hot pretzels. I’ll use a paper tablecloth and plates I already have to make clean up easy. The Saturday game is at 3:55 and the Sunday game is at 1:15 ET. With church, it’ll be easier to enjoy our ‘tailgate party’ on Saturday. We can eat any of the foods in front of the television with no real problem. Maybe I can even get them to wear their CUB shirts and hats.

It’s going to get down to the 40°’s this weekend. I’m thrilled! I love the fall weather. I think I’ve said that a hundred times. I hate summers in the south! Give me snow any day.

The time has come that I MUST either find a temporary job, part time job or get one or two more children to keep. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t concerned. I have to just trust the Lord, tho.

I’ve got some things I need to list on Ebay. I’ve got a Speak ‘n Spell, Speak ‘n Read and Speak ‘n Math. Unless you were a child or a parent in the 1980’s, you won’t know what I’m talking about. They each sell for about $35.00 and up on Ebay. I’ve got a complete set of silverware from 1917 including all the rare serving pieces but people list those by the piece on Ebay. We don’t have any shops near here that buy nicer items. I’ve got a bunch of Avon steins, too. People who come to yard sales around here want junk, not ‘junque’. I’ve been watching, tho, to see if any yard sales are advertised in our subdivision. More than 2 and people will come.

Jim had to go to the high school football game tonight. They were introducing and honoring the middle school team. He had to arrive early to keep an eye on the football players who were dropped off. Since he didn’t have practice, he was home by 3:45. We were able to have supper right at 5:45, which was very nice. Both girls were gone before then.

Monday is Jim’s first day of college. We’re really hoping he can complete his classes for his teaching certificate so he can teach full time next year. One year at poverty level is more than enough, don’t ya think?

Lots of good shows on television tonight! We’ll watch Ghost Whisperer, Moonlight and NUMB3RS. We don’t like Ghost Whisperer, but there’s nothing else on.

Have a very nice evening and please take a minute to look at the Bible verses I’ve chosen to share today.
God Bless,

Diane Tavegia

John 12:35-36 "Jesus replied, "My light will shine out for you just a little while longer. Walk in it while you can, so you will not stumble when the darkness falls. If you walk in the darkness, you cannot see where you are going. Believe in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light." After saying these things, Jesus went away and was hidden from them."

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1 Peter 1:6-8 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For, just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ.
