Who exactly is the 'prophetic' (and I use that word loosely, as I'm sure he does) leader your friend is listening to, out of curiosity?

Can you please answer this, just so I can know who it is?

Generation Gap The Church pink.. n/a n/a 7/13/2010 12:30:24 PMpink..

quote:

I am so blessed to have a wide variety of music that I really enjoy listening to. So, most music in churches is no problem for me unless it's loud. What's up with trying to make me lose my hearing at age 45?

There is a lot to be gained from the contemporary songs and from the hymnals. My generation was taught that it's not the style of music, it's the words to the songs that can cause a problem. We need to remember that applies to music of today as well as music of generations gone by.

I got saved at the age of 29 and was in a church that was mostly folks my age. When I was 30 I moved across country and started attending the church that I'm at now. We have a large variety of ages from the cradle to the grave. A lot of families with several generations in the church. I hear often from the young folks that the older ones don't want them there. I hear the same from the older folks - that the younger ones don't want them there. Mainly they base their thoughts on musical tastes for worship.

We have two services. The 8 a.m. is traditional. The 10:45 a.m. is contemporary. The only thing that is different is the location in the church and the music style. The 8 a.m. is held upstairs in the beautiful sanctuary with the gorgeous stained glass windows and area for the choir. The 10:45 a.m service is held downstairs where there is room for the worship team on the stage.

The sermon is the same at each service.

I think our most elderly congregatant is 98. She is an inspirational woman of God! There is no way that you can tell me that she wouldn't want her 2 year old great-great-great grandchild to attend the same church. Although this lady's family has found away to make it work, it's a shame that so many families can't make it work.

Music is supposed to bring us together, but more importantly it is supposed to glorify God. I think that we, as Christians, should be ashamed of ourselves for letting Godly music divide us rather than unite us. It is my experience that all generations are guilty of this.

I meditate on scripture. One that begins calming my mind is Psalm 46:10A. It simply states:

Be still, and know that I am God (KJV)

Cease striving and know that I am God (NASB)

I'm actually more interested in the open theism question.

Do you know about the whole thread dedicated to Open Theism in this folder?

James,
Thank you for your interest in this thread, but I would prefer the principle of my OP to stand on it's own and decline giving names. IMO, it matters not on the "who" since the world seems to be awash with prophecy groups led by highly persuasive men. It's just the fact that people are being destracted from the work our Lord expects of His followers.

Respectfully,
Ben

It matters because someone might happen upon this thread and this wolf's name might be familiar as they may be going through a similar situation with a friend or loved one being deceived by this person. How will people know unless they are warned?

I'm living in Barcelona where it's mainly Catholic Cathedrals but I do know there are Protestant churches here too. It's a big city so it can handle a lot. What I'm getting at is that Jesus would be shaking his head right now to see how many poor people througth the years had to fork out money they really didn't have to get these churches and cathedrals built.

Have you ever read how elaborate God the Father instructed His Temple to be? We are to give of our best to the Master, His only begotten Son AND also provide for those in need. We don't have to give God our second best in order to minister to others.

A life to cherish - 7/30/2010 11:52:50 PM

Got to visit with a friend today that I haven't seen in ages. It was really good spending time with her.

It seems so strange that I didn't do any cross stitch today. I didn't sleep well, so I ended up having to take a nap. Spent a little time with Bailey before lunch. Then when friend was here, obviously I didn't do any cross stitch. Normally I start doing cross stitch as soon as I get back from feeding Bailey. Dinner was ready sooner than usual, so didn't get to do anything. After dinner, I came online. Something I haven't done so early in a very long time. I've been here on and off. John and I had a game of scrabble earlier. Cross stitch has become such a part of my daily routine that I miss it when I don't do it for a day. It's like the day is incomplete.

I brought up the subject about a week ago to John and Joan that we haven't had a vacation for a number of years. I was setting a TV programme to record whilst the end of a travel show was on. I only saw a few seconds of it, but they had shown this particular place before a couple of years ago, and I was interested even then. We're going to give ourselves a year, and if we have the finances, we're going to go on holiday. When we were looking at going to Tasmania a couple of years ago, a friend offered to take care of Bailey. We will ask them if they would be able to look after him this time. Hopefully he'll be ok. They have a dog now, so I just hope that he doesn't have a problem with the other dog. I know that all of us will be missing him whilst we are away. I know when I went to Sydney for 10 days a few years back, he really missed me, even though John and Joan were still there with him. Even standing on the other side of the mesh door, he didn't believe it was me standing there. It wasn't until I came outside, called to him and patted him that he really believed that it was me and I was finally home.

Anyway, if we do get to go away on holiday, we will be going to another part of Australia. It won't be Tasmania, but it will be a different state than we are living in. We'll be going to South Australia. John was born there. We will base ourselves in their capital city, Adelaide. They have the Barossa Valley, which is wine tasting country. I don't like wine, so that doesn't do anything for me. Apparently there are lots of craft places around, so that will be good. Might give me some ideas, or I might buy some ready made gifts. One area there that I'd particularly like to see is a place called Hahndorf. It's a German settlement. A lot of German foods, crafts etc. It will be like going to a little part of Germany, but on a much more affordable scale. John's sister still lives in South Australia, so we could stop and see her for a little while. We won't stay with her though. We're not sure how long we would go for. We'd lose a day in travel each way, so it would be at least 5 days. Maybe a week. I guess we'll talk more about that as time comes closer and we find if we have the finances to be able to do what we want. We'll have to hire a car for the time that we're over there. Could be interesting.

This is a hope of the riches and glory of the inheritance of the holy ones, of which we hope we are...

You seem to be using the world's definition of hope again. As I wrote earlier, biblical "hope" is confidence or expectation in a sure thing. It's not a wish. It's a Sure thing.... it's gonna happen.

Please Eutychus,

I am not hung up on that. It is in the past, it is gone.

We have prayed about it. We have cried about it. By your definition Josh Harris should now divorce his wife. No, there is pain accompanied with these things. Are you telling me to bury my heart?

Unless you two are married and infidelity occurred after your marriage to her, I'm not sure Josh Harris' book has anything to do with your situation. I don't even know who he is.

What I'm telling you is that her past really isn't your business and you have no right to feel hurt. She owes you no apology and it's not your place to forgive her.

If she was my daughter, I'd be very, very concerned about your "pain" over something that happened before you two got together.

Sorry! 'native Virginians' and 'Canucks' aint making a connection with me

Many people I've met in the state of Virginia who were born and raised there, especially if their families go back several generations as Virginians, use the "oo" sound like Scotsmen. "It's aboot time to take the boot back to the hoose."

I've heard Canadians and Minnesotans do this.

AND ye believe ye is a little god?

That remionds me of something Jesus said in John 10;

Jesus answered them, "I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?"

The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God."

Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your Law, 'I SAID, YOU ARE GODS'?

"If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father."
