ORIGINAL: pink.. Worming, shots and license will be taken care of on Saturday. Our town is having one of it's annual festivals and on that day they offer all of that for $20 max per dog. A trip to the vets office for all of that would easily cost me $75, and it wouldn't cover the $10 license fee. I may have to stand in line for quite a while for all for it, but it's worth the savings. That sounds a great deal - you might want to check though that it covers the series, ie full schedule, of core vaccines that a puppy needs to have, and not just the one-off annual booster that older dogs have. Over here it's two injections, two weeks apart, but I think it's as many as 4 injections over there. Do you not have to have him tested at the vets first, in case he has already had some of the shots? I've not heard of such a test. Of course, anytime we've gotten a puppy in the past, we knew for sure which shots they did or did not have. Since it's looking like he was abandoned, I think it's safe to say that he hasn't had any. If I took him to the vet for a test, then I might as well take him there for the shots because I'd have to pay for the office visit, which is very expensive.

Pink, how old is pup? If under 12 wks he needs a series of shots based on what shots your area vets use and recommend based on your location. The tests are ridiculously expensive and the risk of over vaccinating at puppy age of an abandoned pup are minimal compared to cost for me. Every region of the country I've worked in had different shots based on disease in that area.

If you have a Tractor Supply or other farm store near you, they may carry any vaccines you would need. We got our puppies' there for less than $20 for two sets of shots each. We also got the wormer meds there. The only thing we have left to get is the rabies, which we will do at a firehouse clinic for 5 bucks each. Levi is on day three or four of undies only. Doing pretty well for pee, and nothing at all for poo. Sigh. Going to stick with it though, even if it means I am washing a load of nasty undies every couple days.

Big sis has been doing relatively well in big girl undies. She did have an accident while napping the other day. I can't really fault her there though as she hasn't been dry every night either. We will have to see what happens as she is visiting birth family this weekend. It could be interesting when she comes back. I just don't even know what to expect!

I've backed off on potty training Mary, though I wasn't really pushing it much. She's been more interested in seeing how she can pee through her panties (or if naked) how the pee comes out onto the carpet than trying use the potty.

Yeah when I look back on it, I can laugh, but at the time, while she stood there looked at me then looked at herself while letting it ALL flow out, I was steaming mad.

We were out all day...and NO ACCIDENTS. Of course, he didn't poop at all. But no pee accidents is a good step, and I'll take it. LOL That included two hours in the car...one each way. I think we're going to give it a go while camping too. I'll just bring a different wet bag for pee/poo stuff, and LOTS of extra undies and shorts for him. I don't want to put pottying away for a week now that we've got a good running start. Who knows...maybe being away from home will actually help him???

Oh Donna the other older boys can be a HUGE HELP while camping, taking him to a special tree or the bathroom and being big boys! I think it's a perfect time. I can't wait to start our PT here, she's ssooooo close. Tells me when her cloth diapers are wet or poop. "I poop, diaper mommy!!" and runs to where the clean inserts are!

Esther will still just sit on the potty, no success yet. But she likes to sit. There's a light at the end of this diaper tunnel...

ORIGINAL: purejoy I mostly just have her in a diaper still since I'm not technically PT her Who says? LOL! Sounds like it to me!! Potty training begins when you start to get them used to sitting on the potty, just sitting, even without doing anything to get them accustomed to it and comfortable with it. You're way past that stage even!

Hannah was that way. I was NOT going to work on it at all until after Levi was born and settled in. A month before he was born, she trained herself at 22 months. Same age Esther is now.

I need some huge advice on teething. Dylan is almost 9 months and is cutting both front top teeth at the same time. It has been horrific! He has been cranky and always wanting to nurse at night because the pain is so bad. But can teeth also put pressure on the ears if there is fluid in them? He has had fluid in the ears, not an infection at all, for the last month and I have been trying to give Benedryl to help dry it up as that is what my Ped's office told me to do. But today, after getting no sleep the last two nights, I decided to give him Motrin and put ear drops in his ears, and I am hoping that it will help. But I am so tired of nursing him all night, and I mean literally all night. He will not take a pacifier, he only wants me. He does it during the day too, but with so much activity around and how mobile he is, it doesnt bother him the same as it does at night. Is there something else I can try if the ear drops dont work tonight? Has anyone else have a similar experience? Do you think that it could be more then the teething, like maybe an ear infection on top of it? I am so tired... :( and my heart breaks for him as he is in so much pain. BTW- I am using Motrin/Tylenol and teething tablets to help with the pain along with teethers, cold carrots and ice cubes put into my mesh feeder. My oldest was never this horrible of a teether, so this is completely different territory that I am treading on.

Jamie it could be an infection by now. Not sure how effective benadryl really can be on fluid in ears. Hmm. I would be willing to run him in to the dr to see if it's more than just fluid. But yes, fluid in ears hurts more laying down and teeth tend to hurt more at night as well. Is there any way to get some switch off at night? Does he take any milk via bottle? Get a nurse break while he gets a bottle?

I'd go in and have his ears checked anyways. If your child's doctor doesn't treat you with respect, then find a new one. But I've had months with my 2 kids that I was in there way more then I wanted to be. Considering Beth's ugly sleep history, I'm willing to risk a few eye rolls behind my back (but I don't think that they've actually done that).

I would go back to the doc to check as things should be better by now. Fluid in the ear could or could not have developed into an infection. DS had fluid in the ear that wasn't relieved by medication (ENT recommended Zrytec for DS, so Benadryl doesn't sound too far off to me, especially considering Dylan's age). The doc then inserted ear tubes (a surgical procedure) but we haven't had problems since they were inserted last month. Then again, I am the parent who will very possibly take baby girl back to the doctor today. It'll be her 3rd visit in as many weeks, so don't feel badly about going back to the doctor.
