My boy is growing up! He did two things today that surprised and shocked me.

It was lunch time. I was just about done with the mac and cheese. I asked Jadon if he was hungry and he said, "I do." Nothing new with that. I continued to stir the M&C and when I turned around Jadon had CLIMBED into his high chair and sat waiting to bed fed! My jaw dropped and I laughed.

Then, after lunch, I was nursing Joshua and I heard Jadon whining a little different in his room. I got up and was SHOCKED to find that he had crawled INTO HIS CRIB. I still can't believe it! I was going to keep him up until Joshua was done eating, but he let me know that he was ready right then. lol

He knows his shapes, learning colors, organized. He's just great! I'm so proud of him.

Now to not cry over the fact that Joshua isn't letting me nap when jadon is.

He is growing up Janine..and don't worry...eventually....the boys' nap schedule will sync up......until then...just be content to rock/feed Joshua in a restful place while Jadon naps...at least that way you will be resting....

Have any of you experienced a 16mo (or whatever age) who fought getting dressed, putting a coat on and getting strapped into a car seat? Basically, ds is fighting getting clothes on or being strapped in. And I don't know what to do about it. I have tried to warn her of what we are going to do. I have tried to distract her. Nothing I have tried seems to work. I realize she is exerting her independence, which I don't want to break, but I also don't want a fight every time she gets dressed or we have to go somewhere. Any suggestions?

MamaAng, have you tried making a game of it? especially the getting dressed. Perhaps making up a song to fit what you're doing.

YES...and it's totally normal for that age also. I try making it fun, but if they are willing to just make misery out of it anyway then I am willing to just buckle down and get it done. I have no problem holding a baby down to do what needs to be done...if that's what it takes.

Jae, they are so much fun, aren't they? I hoping I can still say that as we progress into the "terrible" twos!

Caden will fight once in awhile during diaper changes or putting on his pajamas. He usually will calm right down if we start singing his favorite songs (one of which is called "have patience"). If that doesn't work, I actually throw a leg over him to keep him in place until I can get the diaper on!

BTW, he is STILL sleeping this am (it's 10:30 here). Hoping he feels better today.

I will have to try to make it fun by singing. I have been able to distract Hannah during diaper changes by asking her where her hair, eye, nose, etc are at. This seems to work most of the time. She is really into getting chased. So I think she wants me to chase her instead of holding her down.

Since the techniques I have been using don't work, I have been holding her down like Sarah said.

Yes, I think we've probably all resorted to that at times. LOL Like I said, poor Caden has been pinned under my leg more than once!

My kids HATE IT when I sing that song...that one and the poochie lip disease song...do you know that one?

The holding down is only for a season...eventually they learn that you will hold them down if necessary, but that it goes better if they just cooperate. Justice is pretty much over the being held down stage now, and is on into the helping get himself dressed now stage!!! He isn't fully into the doing it on his own stage yet, so I am grateful of that!!! When they start doing it on their own it takes at least three times as long to get dressed as you getting them dressed. (That stage usually hits about 2-3 for most kids though).

LOL - I've never heard of it, but it sounds intriguing! Caden loves the patience song so much that he sings it on his own whenever he's getting frustrated. It cracks me up! He also says "no whining" when he's tempted to whine. Kids are great.

Just got back from the doc...Isaac is 32 1/2 inches tall, 26 lbs. Perfectly normal and healthy.

The spot on his neck was just a swollen lymph node. Doc said some lymph nodes you worry about but not this one. It and his snoring are just due to allergies, he noted it looked like he had "allergy eyes" but they are not severe enough for any medication. Klay and I both have seasonal allergies as well.

Got a prescription for Zantac. He thinks the breastmilk from when he was still nursing was keeping it in check, since it went away and he no longer needed medication once he was home nursing and no longer had a feed tube and such ran down in his tummy, and then it only reoccurred once we weaned about a month ago at 18 months. (Doc was giving me a hard time, jokingly, about weaning him, he said "WHAT?? You made him stop nursing, why? I'm sure he thought as hard as we worked to nurse I'd never stop. I told him at 18 months that was enough so I quit offering, he quit asking, and we went our merry ways.) He said if that doesnt work we can try Prevacid later if we wanted. But he says since its not overly severe this will probably do what we need. He attributed his frequent night waking to the reflux.

Mightn't it be possible though to work out what's triggering the reflux?

The doc feels, and I do too, that its so widespread of occurrence that its most likely just related to his former prematurity, since MOST preemies have reflux on some level. Its also possible that the valve at the top of his stomach could not be developed properly since he had a feed tub ran through it for 2 months.

I see; if it was me though I'd still be keeping a food diary and looking out for any possible connections, just in case.

I plan to. I am hoping in a few months, maybe this summer when he's bigger, to try weaning him off the Zantac and see if it has improved. I do hope this gives us some better nights. I love cuddling with him, and dont mind co-sleeping, but having my own bed back and an uninterrupted night for a change would be nice.

It's a song from the play Patch The Pirate...our school did that play way back when I was in the 4th grade or so, and I still remember that song. It is so funny. I searched on YouTube for a video of it, and found THIS ONE. This little girls sings it a bit wrong...the words for the chorus she has a little off. She says "The poochie lip will get you if you start to pout" twice...it actually says "The poochie lip will get you if you don't watch out. The poochie lip will get you if you start to pout". She sings the verses though...which the other videos didn't have on there. It's really a cute song.

Ha ha! That's funny. We may have to add that one when he starts up with the pouty lip!

Sorry I've been gone so long, we are pretty much living in controlled chaos around here! I know this is going back a few pages, but thanks for the suggestions about our sleeping issues. Beth is still sleeping with me and I'm still not sure what to do. Mark will not sleep with a baby in our bed. Full stop, end of discussion. We did it a couple of times with Josh in a hotel (king size bed) at 6+ months and even then he would have slept somewhere else if he'd had the option. She won't take a pacifier (tried it mostly for car rides but a total no go). Haven't thought about the rice bag idea, have considered a heating pad on low to warm up the cradle before she goes in there (I'd take it out when I put her down of course) and possible moving the cradle so it is right next to the bed. I'm not sure it would fit though. Has anybody used either the snuggle nests that go in the bed or the side positioners? I'm not sure how comfortable I am with either one, just trying to check out my options. Or the cosleepers? I'm beginning to think one might fit, but they are so expensive for a few months use. Maybe a used one? Sorry for the ramble. Oh, Beth is now 9.5lbs. I do believe our weight gain "issues" are a thing of the past!

We used a cosleeper from the time Caden was born until he was about 4 months and went into the crib. It was great! We had the mini, which he would not have fit in much longer. So, if you do go with one, you might want a full size.

Even used, baby items sell online pretty easily. So if you do end up spending the money on something you can always sell it later and comp some/most of that back (depending on the quality of the item when you sell it)

We use a snuggle nest first few weeks and then once I feel it's "safe" they come into my arms. And there they stay until 18 months going by our history so I'm not the best adviser :)

But you have to find what works for you guys.
