Shrek 3 - it was cute, though I should have saved the $4.00 and NOT watch it in 3-D. There were really no "WOW" scenes that justified the extra money on 3-D.

^ That's handy to know about the 'worthiness' of the 3D. We don't have a 3D screen here so I haven't seen any of those. Figure I may as well wait for the dvd. I saw Lovely Bones today. I thought it was excellent. It made me nearly cry a few times then at the end I just couldn't keep a few tears back. It was very emotional. Really hated the villain, was great to see what happened to him eventually.

Robin Hood I have to say that you usually can't expect anything else lower quality if it's (a movie) helmed by Ridley Scott. The climatic battle sequence almost reminds me of... PLOT SPOILERS! ...something straight out of the D-Day sequence in Saving Private Ryan... which also begs the historically accurate question if such amphibious attack tactics and ships even exists back in the time of The Crusades--or at least in the way they are designed in the epic movie, which by the way, the sweeping epic score and battle scenes almost felt like an emotionally moving, guilty pleasure in tearjerking testerone!

I saw Letters to Juliet. In my opinion it was a cute little chick flick. I also saw Shrek, it was funny. Probably the best one, well i don't know if it topped the first one, but definately the best out of the last 3.

Just Wright Synopsis: Scott McKnight (Common) is a NBA player who's up for contract negotions and is injured 1/2 way through the season. Leslie Wright (Queen Latifa) is a pnysical therapist who helps him through the injury. Leslie's godsister, Morgan, is a golddigger who is after Scott but dumps him when he is injured and he comes to realize that Leslie has the true heart. Likeable characters, minimal to no profanity, no violence, no explicit sexual acts. I really enjoyed the movie. It's a basic plot and a little slow at times but a very good movie. It's rated PG-13. I took my 12yo daughter & nothing was innapropriate for her to see. 4 outta 5 stars.

I just finished watching Gone Baby Gone. Good thing it was on regular TV, because I would not have been able to handle an unedited version.

SHREK3....didn't like it nearly as much as the other ones. I esp. didn't like all the witches and felt their presence was totally unnecessary. The various characters were not connected nearly as well as in the original Shrek....even Donkey seemed detached AFTER Shrek told him who he was. One of my fav parts was where Shrek found out he could blow through his nose. lol

buckfin - I totally thought it was Shrek 3 also, but it was actually Shrek 4! I do agree with the witches.

Police Mid-80's, Maruice Pialat, French cop drama involving a jaded detective (Gerard Depardieu) and a girlfriend (Sophie Marceau) of a known Tunisian drug boss, getting too complicated with each other, as the case gets deeper, if not more sordid.

Mrs. Brown (1997) The DW got it on Netflix. It was recommended based on the other flix she's gotten, which are a lot of 18th and 19th century British social commentaries. I liked it. The acting was ok, and the screenplay was engaging. I had no idea queen Victoria's inner life was so colorful. The characters were real to me. Is it historical? According to Wikipedia, not only was there a real John Brown, but queen Victoria was buried with a lock of his hair in her hand.

"Get Him To The Greek" In a demented version of "Almost Famous," Fan Boy/lackey instructed to get the "last remaining rock star" to television interview and the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. Things do not go as planned. That's it.

Cavalcade French biopic of career playboy reduced to wheelchair-restricted parapelligic (sp?), upon an auto accident--and how he had to learn to adapt around his physically-trying fate. The male lead in some ways, reminds me of a much younger, Jean-Hugues Anglade!

On Vas S'aimer French romantic comedy drama that feels more like a pop, younger/sexier version of Alain Resnais' arthouse piece, Same Old Song, complete with song-and-dance numbers in between the dialogue--though I don't know of On Vas S'aimer's musical performances are lip-sync as opposed to actual vocal training involved.

A collection of Looney Tunes with commentaries, The Searchers (John Ford - John Wayne), and 4:10 to Yuma - the most recent version. On the later, it's amazing how often Russell Crowe's character gets beat to a pulp in the movie, yet minutes later, his busted lip is completely healed and he's running, riding, and fighting with the best of them. The movie is actully quite good with fine acting but some flms just require more suspension of disbelief than others.

Hubby and I decide at the last minute to go on a date and we saw Splice. Don't waste your money. Ok, the story makes you think a bit about DNA, the responsabilities of creating life and a few other things, but not really worth $$ . The only one who deserves anything were the ones who played Dren. Good job. Just wondering if there's a book on it or not.

L'age des Tenebres (a.k.a, Days of Darkness) Call it a sexy Quebecois version of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. A career civil servant's frequent need to escape his depressing life at work and at home via his vivid imagination--ONLY until he realized that his escapist tendencies is what may be holding him back in life. I was at first a bit put off by the ridiculous nature of the first couple of acts, but come midway onward, it's started to allow some level of mature satisfaction, i.e, have an ambiguous ending leaving much to the imagination for a possible hope (to our hapless hero). Part of me wonders if Days of Darkness is also something of a not-so-subtle jab at Quebec's big gov't sector (given the protagonist's day job!). I guess I can credit this storytelling/directorial style to French Canadian auteur Denis Arcand!
