I was uncomfortable yesterday, which is why I didn't post. Much better today. Thanks for asking, Sue. Are you well?

We're feeling good today, so it looks like we'll get to church tomorrow. Last week we were both sick. John's teaching Adult Sunday School, and after church we're supposed to hear testimonies from prospective members (we're both on the Membership Committee this year). I just pray Ms Fingernails will be well enough to get me up tomorrow.

I'm fine thanks. We will be headed out of town tomorrow to attend the ordination of Merv's niece's husband. Both she and her husband are graduating from Bible college and will soon be heading to Asia to be missionaries.

I'm glad you and John are feeling better and hope Ms Fingernails will be able to get you up tomorrow so you can go to church.

Okay, so John was scheduled to teach Adult Sunday School today, and after church both us us were scheduled to hear testimonies of prospective church members (we're part of the membership committee. At 7:00 a.m Ms Fingenails calls...her car won't start. Praise God for John's cousin, who came and got me up in time for church. Yes, John taught!

No wonder I have little sympathy for people who skip church if they don't "feel" like it. (Trish, I'm not referring to you; you have legitimate health issues.)

I'm glad you were able to go, and I hope Ms Fingernails gets her car fixed so she'll be there the next time she's scheduled to come.

It was her water pump. Fixed now.

I just finished the book of Ezra. I'd never gotten much out of it before, but this time around I found Israel's repentance really exciting. Over on Facebook, I wondered what it would take for American Christians to repent on that level. James (Army Dude) and another friend said persecution. I think I agree. But isn't that sad? Shouldn't our love for Jesus motivate us toward repentance?

Yes it should. But the same tool has worked for centuries. Persecution helps Christians grow, and it shows very plainly who's real in their faith and who's just playing the game.

I agree with James. Sometimes that's what it takes for Christians to grow.

I'm glad the car is fixed.

Oddly enough, I was talking with a friend today, and we agree that some persecution is exactly what the church in America needs. Not that I'd want to go through it, but still...

We also agreed that before long if a church wants to survive, it will be held in someone's house.

And even house churches will be illegal. Did you hear about the pastor in San Diego who was "warned" against holding home Bible Studies? This article says that (thankfully) he won't be required to have a permit after all, but I don't think it will be an isolated incident.

Yes, and then you have the UN convention on the rights of the child which could, as I understand it, make it illegal to require your child to attend church or learn about your religion. So, even if you try to keep your home church small, your own children could turn you in for forcing your beliefs on them. Hmmmmmm.........seems like I've read some warnings about things like that in the Bible.

That was quite the article, DebbieLynne. Definitely, times will NOT be getting better for Christians. But it's nice to know that through the internet people could quickly come to his support. Otherwise it could easily have stayed just a local hiccup.

I'm back. Yesterday we went to the Museum of Fine Arts, and saw the Titian, Tintaretto and Veronese exhibit. I'd studied Italian Renaissance art in college, so I was in my element!

Veronese's St Jerome particularly moved me. Sorry I couldn't find a better image, but you can click to enlarge it. Anyway, I was sad that he believed penitence required him to beat himself with a rock. Even though he translated the Scriptures into Latin, he didn't really grasp that Christ had already fully atoned for his sin.

It was a glorious exhibit, and I absolutely savored it!

For the past decade or two whenever I'd gone to the Museum of Fine Arts I'd enjoyed going in by way of the fully wheelchair accessible west wing entrance...so stairs at all for anybody.

Yesterday when we got within sight of that entrance we were not in sight of an accessible entrance...or any entrance at all for that matter. At the moment that area is a construction site. So...we asked somebody and soon learned the main entrance has two wheelchair ramps, one on either side of the stairs.

It was a good take in, and since we now have a membership we'll be going back, hopefully several times in the coming 12 months.

That is so cool! XD

Did you know, I almost went to Boston College. I would have been able to go to the Museum of Fine arts for free...

Are you already in college, Slushie?

I'm trying to think of an interesting Random Question. Nothing I come up with seems very exciting, though. Can anyone come up with one?

I'm afraid my creativity is on the fritz tonight... If I think of something, I'll post it!

Do any of you feel frustrated by one-stop threads? Most of the topics that interest me are in one-stop threads, but I can't read back through an entire thread to see what's already been posted. About a year ago I tried participating in the Calvinism/Armenianism thread, but I kept bringing up points that had already been covered. I know one-stop threads are easier for the mods, but they intimidate me. Anyone else feel that way?

I do, which is why I don't go there. It's too long to really keep track of what's been said and what hasn't been said. Plus people can get really "heated" there.

I agree, DebbieLynne. I find some of them very interesting. I always feel I have to read all the way through before I say anything. Actually, I haven't posted much in these threads (bit of a coward, I'm afraid).
