ORIGINAL: robertyork Daniel I know you respect your elders, but I'm only 21 years old. Again you don't have to put the Mr. in front it really makes me feel old. And I know you were raised that way. hee....hee... That's funny! It has been an adjustment to me to (sometimes) (trying to) call older people by their first name on their online forums. Sometimes I make myself do it, but I'll almost never do it in person. Sony is about the oldest person I still use first names for. (And if she was married, I'd probably call her Mrs. ***. ) So you expect her to marry someone with only three letters in his last name? Actually this is an interesting discussion. I was just thinking about this. It seems you can offend people either way. In person, I try not to call people anything. (it's easier that way. ) Online, I usually see what everyone else calls them & follow suit. But that can get you in trouble sometimes. Case in point: My brother was calling a man he really didn't know well to ask a question about something. The man said, "You should ask my wife, Ruthie. Here's her cell phone, you can call her & ask." So my brother calls her & says, "Hi, is this Ruthie?" She answered crisply, "This is Ruth." My brother: "I, er, uh, that is, your husband said..."

ORIGINAL: Billboy Christi: I watched part of the Cubs big Monday win on Comcast Sports Chicago yesterday afternoon in an encore presentation. I turned it on just in time to see Z lead off with his double, followed by the Soriano hr. Also saw Z get another hit in the next inning. He may become a regular ph for them when he is not pitching. They did not fare so well last night, so I skipped the encore game this afternoon. If I am watching tv on a weekday afternoon in May, you know the weather must be bad, or I would be really busy outside. Big Z is a pretty good hitter. Did you know that he wanted to (and almost got to) hit in the home run derby during last years All Star Game? I did not know that. Knowing his exuberance he probably would have pulled something by over-swinging, and affected his major talent, which is pitching. Christi: Why do the Cubs want Edmonds? Have they sent Pie back to the minors? If they get Edmonds, will it affect the status of their premier LH ph (imho), Darryl Ward? It will be hard for me to get the mind-set of being an Edmonds fan, after he spent all those years with our chief nemesis, the Cardinals.

My full name is Gerald and that is pronounced with a hard "G" and not a soft one. It is very unusual pronunciation. (And that is why I go by Gary) When strangers pronounce it incorrectly I usually let it go, if I am not going to see them again it is not worth the effort to try to correct them.
