Wow Diolectic that was some list!

You remember The Donny & Marie show. (I want to think Saturday but the variety shows were crazy then. I can remember Hee Haw)

You wanted to be Steve Austin (not the pro wrestler). I played with my sister's doll of Steve Austin the 6 milion Dollar Man. (Didn't the doll have the little chip things that you could take in and out?)

The whole block comes to play in your sand box. (It was really a wooden box- made of wood that was hammered together and it had seats on all 4 corners)

You watched Captain Kangaroo before you go to school. (I just remembered that Howdie Doodie had a comeback somewhere to)

Snuffleupagus was BigBird's "imaginary friend" (No more Snuffleupagus? :( )

I just remembered that when you got your tonsils out it was the most painful experience you ever went through for a few days. Kids got it so easy today it's like they are just in and out.

This is our new cat. He doesn't have a name yet though he got the undeserved nickname of "Evil Kitty" from the kids.

No sign of our old kitten. We got a couple of phone calls but they couldn't grab him for us. : (

Donny & Marie meant popcorn and soda on Friday nights at my house. One of the rare times my mom allowed kids to have food or drink in the living room.

I don't remember that, but, it did have a place to look through his eye, a button to lift his right arm & a back pack which, when clipped to metal, you could hear am radio in an earphone.

Ours was steel, which was first used as a cement mixing container with sides to sit on.

Really early 1970s (from late 1960s)...I had a Mrs. Beasley doll from the show "Family Affair". I LOVED her!!!! (I'm sorry for having a tad of sixties stuff, but I had it in the seventies...my remembered childhood spanned the late sixties through all the seventies.)

My sister had one of those as a child and loved it! I saw an ad for one last year in a magazine...I had to buy it for her so she could get "Mrs. Beasley" back! lol

You know you're a 70's kid when... the teacher's at your school had posters that said "Legalize it" (marijuana)--I had some hippie teachers!

No...so now I want to look her up! She sounds cute! I had a Giggles doll, a fat sitting-up happy baby who giggled when you moved one of her arms (she's somewhere in a bag around here, I think).

Oh, she's lucky! You're really nice. A couple of years ago, my daughter and I watched all the seasons of "Family Affair", and my daughter got used to hearing me whine, "I want my Mrs. Beasly!" She really was my most favorite doll. I have some of my old dolls somewhere, but I no longer have her...I loved her to pieces (literally).

You know you're a 1970s kid when...you can recognize Paul Lynde's voice any time anywhere!

Thanks! My sister used to take the 'granny glasses' off her doll and wear them around the house. I have the cutest pic of her when she was about 8, wearing those glasses.
Ditto on the Paul Lynde's voice. I used to see him on Bewitched (I thought he was so funny).

You know you're a 70's kid when... you remember wearing "Keds" tennis shoes.

I wish they made grown up Keds that looked like the toddler Keds...they're so cute.

Here's a picture of Shrinkin Violette (I obviously spelled it wrong)
1963 Shrinkin Violette often referred to as Shrinking Violet, 17" tall, stuffed cloth doll, talker with pull string, eyes and mouth moved when she talked, printed face with blue eyes, yellow yarn pigtail hair with violet ribbons, violet dress, white socks and black mary jane shoes that are (I think) non-removable.
Marked: Quality Originals by/ Mattel/Shrinkin' Violette/ ©1963 The Funny Company.

The 70's. Wow, what a flashback!!!

Styx, Kansas, Queen, Lynard Skynard, Journey and the disco years! When everyone talked of Studio 54 and thought it was all so cool. Who could forget the Village People! Rocky Horror Picture Show and acting out each part on the stage in the theater!!

What about American Grafitti, Happy Days, Mork from Ork, Laverne and Shirley, Roots (that caused more riots in the south!), when Vinnie Barbarino became even cooler in Saturday Night Fever and all kids wanted teachers like Mr. Kotter. When Archie Bunker and Meathead when everyone wanted to grow up a Brady or Partridge. The Jeffersons were moving on up and Good Times were Dyn O Mite!

Who doesn't remember Rizzo, Frenchy, Danny & Sandy and the gang from Rydel High school in Grease and then the college years with Otter, Flounder, and Dean Wormer from Animal House? Everyone wanted a black Trans Am like Burt Reynolds in Smoky and the Bandit. Star Wars, C3PO and R2D2, and Hans Solo was hot.

Jimmy Carter and ads for Billy Beer. Watergate, Vietnam and the Iran Hostage situation. We thought all Russians wanted to nuke us yet all girls wanted to be Olga Corbett or Nadia Comaneche (sp). When hip huggers moved to high waisted pants and baby dolls were shirts for girls. When straight hair began to be fluffy. Girls all wantetd the Farrah-do. When roller skating was so cool in junior high and everyone was scared to death watching Jaws. NO one went to the beach that summer. (I grew up at the beach!)

I also remember having PF Flyer tennis shoes - they were canvas with more pointy toes...

Also, did anyone here have those black lights with special posters that glowed? My mother felt that they were of satan so they weren't allowed in our home.

YES!!!!!! If Johnny Quest had it, then so did I! LOL

I used to pick at the PF emblem on the heel of the shoe when I was watching TV. I did the same with my Keds.

My brother and I both had rings and we would try to flash one another. I dunno if we ever got them to work right.

Some people were talking about dolls and nobody mentioned my dolls, or my sister's doll, and I thought they were the best! I had Kathy Quick Curl, a doll that had hair you could style, and The Original Holly Hobby, and my sister had Baby Tender Love (I still remember the jingle for the commercial for that doll). I also wanted a doll called Gabigail that would record what you said and play it back when you pulled it's string. My mom didn't get it for me the first Christmas I asked for one, and the next
Christmas I asked again, and she told me later she couldn't find it. I guess it didn't last long. I never knew anybody that had one. But for a couple years there, I thought that would be the greatest thing in the world to have one of those dolls!

This is my favorite thread of all time...

How about Casey Casem's top 40 on sunday afternoons?

Putting little braids in your wet hair before bed so you'd have a big fro in the morning.

Sonny & Cher's variety show (saturday nights?)

I was soooooo in love with Donny Osmond - I knew everything about him (I still remember his favorite color was purple). Donny - woohoo!

I remember the DeFranco's (family singing group)- like the latino version of the Osmonds and Jacksons. Tony DeFranco - woohoo!

Hey Hey for the Monkees - there was a cartoon one and the real guys had a show too. Davy Jones - woohoo!

I didn't really catch Casey Kasem until the 1980's instead, but I knew that he got his start in the 70's though. BTW, they even rebroadcast those shows now, mostly on oldies stations.

I was going to mention Cher's variety show too.

And I remember The Osmond's as well.

Anyone remember Sha Na Na at all?

How about The Muppet Show?

I remember both Sha Na Na and the Muppets. I had a couple nieces who absolutely adored Sha Na Na. Didn't that have somebody on it called Bowser who liked to open his mouth very wide? And I'm almost thinking that was John Travolta, but I'm not at all sure about that. I didn't look at the link. I just wanted to remember.

No, John Travolta wasn't in Sha Na Na, does anyone remember him in The Boy In The Plastic Bubble?
