Megan, there is no point in obsessing about your cycle. It is what it is. Either you are pregnant or you aren't. Trying to guess the future is just that... guessing. It doesn't matter what you guess, the reality will still be the same. Either you are or you are not. It's easy to get caught up in all the what if's, the she had that and I have that... and the maybe this month.. and trying not to get your hopes up. I hope that things do work for you, but know that God is always in control whether you are or you are not pregnant.

Seems like it isn't God's timing yet again as AF seems to be making her unwelcome visit.

I guess it's worth a try. I'm just somewhat apprehensive about using the Clomid again. This month was okay headache-wise. You'd have to ask DH about moodiness

Month one on Clomid was awful with a LOT of headaches & moodiness.

On the positive side of things, our roommate is moving OUT (probably even this weekend)! Yes!! This will allow more privacy & intimacy won't have to be limited, etc.

Good: Roomie is moved OUT!! He did forget his laundry though. Oh well, guess we need to finish it & take it to him at church tomorrow (or something).

Bad: My cramps, etc. are just awful today. There is a reason I hate this time of the month.

Well, back to the waiting game! Ovulation happened a tad earlier then normal in my cycle, so hopefully I won't have to wait longer then another week and a half.

Ugh..I'm not patient when it comes to stuff like this.

Ok....I'm sooo glad this thread is here. I really can't count! The 28th day of my cycle is today and I have NO premenstral symptoms.

I may have to go out for a test tonight....

So...did you make that run? And if so...how did things turn out? BFP? BFN?

Not sure...have not bought one yet. I have been feeling a bit crampy today. So, I'll wait a day or two more before testing to see if aunt flo comes.

I hear you on waiting another day or two just to make sure. For myself, I chart using BBT, so if my BBT drops (even with no other signs), I know AF is on the way.

Hi Ladies,

I had a question. My husband and I have started TTC this month.

I have always struggled with very irregular cycles. Very irregular. I have been off and on the pill before to get them going. Usually my doctor would put me on the pill for a little while, then take me off, I would be good for a while and then they would go back to being irregular.

My question is, does irregular periods seem to affect TTC? I know it is all about when you ovulate but didn't know if there seemed to be a link with irregular cycles and having trouble TTC.

Thanks for your thoughts! Fly

fly... the simple answer is... I don't know. There may be a link, depending on what causes your irregular cycles. If you only have 4 cycles a year, then you only (likely) ovulate 4 times a year. I suggest that you start charting, and see what your temps are like, and what you can determine from them. I like "Fertility Friend" online for charting. (others around here prefer other programs, but you can start with basic charting there for free, and it has lots of information for free)

Do you know why your cycles are irregular? Are you currently charting your cycles? A good book to look into is Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler for info about how to start charting.

You say that your cycles are irregular...do you have extra body weight, have trouble losing weight even if you're exercising, have ovarian cysts, have one to two cycles per year when not on birth control? Have you been to see a reproductive endocrinologist for your irregular cycles?

I am not sure why my cycles are irregular. I tend to internalize stress, so sometimes I think it is just stress related. My doctor doesn't seem to think it will be a problem, but I guess it is normal for us women to worry about such things. When I told her we wanted to start trying and she said, "oh it will happen!" I did go to an OBGYN a couple years ago and I told her my symptons and such and she didn't see it as a problem. I have always had cycles they are just never regular and sometimes have a hard time stopping. They tend to linger sometimes....not heavy, but very light.

I do have the book taking charge of your fertility. I have not been taking my temps, but I have been watching for fluid and such. I'll be honest sometimes it is just hard to tell:) I also bought an ovulation predictor kit and I am hopping that will give me a clue.

I do not have extra body weight. I am on the slim side.....but not thin enough that I wouldn't cycle because of that. I 23, so I know I am in a good age range.
Thank you for your thoughts.....it can be hard to break into forums where people seem to know each other so well.

I would start temping, then you know which part of your cycle is irregular and you can make sure that your luteal phase is at least 10 days long.

I had the same problem...but mine were 40+ days in length with about 20+ days of heavy bleeding (as in soaking through a super tampon in an hour). I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in 2003). I don't get cysts but if I'm not on Metformin 1500 mg daily then I don't ovulate and have terrible cycles.

Unless you're temping and charting your CF those are a waste of money, imo.

My SIL (who's not on the forums) and a few of the other ladies on here are thin and also have PCOS, not saying that's what you have, but not having extra weight isn't necessarily indicative of there not being a problem, kwim?

There are many women here who have been temping and charting for many many years and would be more than willing to chat about how to go about starting and figuring out your fertility signals.

Yeah, you could spend a fortune on ovulation predictors waiting to ovulate if you aren't fairly regular. I think I took one every day for almost two months before I conceived our little boy Temping isn't hard at all and it will give you an idea of if everything other than the duration of your cycles is normal. I have irregular cycles, too, and I had no trouble getting pregnant the first cycle we tried both times we were TTC... I just had to wait a ridiculously long time to ovulate each cycle I ovulated on day 50-something the first time and day 90-something the second time. Temping kept me from going crazy during the three months I was waiting to ovulate. Once I knew I'd ovulated, I only had to go crazy for 10 days before getting a positive pregnancy test

Thank you Artemis, thats encouraging. I am pretty sure I do ovulate...atleast sometimes, because sometimes mid-cycle I will get a low pain by my ovaries for about a half a day....sometimes it is pretty uncomfortable. Or maybe it is just gas. haha Anyway...

Can you start watching your temps mid cycle, like I am now? And can you use just a regular thermometer or just a regular digital one?

Oh...and I found ovulation predictors at the dollar store. Go figure....of course it is only one in a pack and who knows if they are any good! Thanks! Fly

Fly, you can begin temping at any point during your cycle. I am not sure how much information you would gain from beginning in the middle of your cycle, although it could pinpoint ovulation & help you see how long your luteal phase is. I use Fertility Friend for my basal chart temping. As far as what thermometer to use, you will want a digital thermometer. A basal thermometer is recommended (they can be purchased for about $10 at Wal-Mart). Honestly, I use a regular (60 second) digital thermometer which shows the tenths.

Good luck with the ovulation predictors...they didn't work for me at all, but I'm "test" challenged anyways (at least it seems that way).

You are correct that pain down by the ovaries mid-cycle is usually ovulation, but it can also be other things (ie: I have had ovarian cysts because of PCOS which can cause pain).

Hope this information is helpful & that it won't take too long for you to conceive. My DH & I have been TTC for nearly 2 years. The doctor currently has me taking both Metformin & Clomid. Blessings to you!!
