Hey guys - just an update - we took Elvis back today:
We took Elvis back to the Rescue at PetSmart. I had a list of things he loved to do and little quirks about him. We brought a little baggie with his two favorite toys and his rabies collar. I was okay in the car until Elvis started crying (he cries in the car because he gets scared) I couldn't take it.

Josh drove thank goodness - I probably would have been all over the road. The other night when I was crying over Elvis he came up to me and licked the tears off my cheek and now he's not here to do that.

Anyway, we pulled up and saw the sign that said this week is national pet adoption week apparently so yea that was like a double blow - here I am returning a pet during national pet adoption week.

We handed him over and he was very confused and then I booked it because I started crying and not that wimper wimper cry -that if we don't get out of here very quickly I am going to fall on the floor and sob and snot and tears will start coming out every which way cry.

I was okay for most of the rest of the evening. As soon as we got home Callie was jumping around and playing and cuddling up to us and Josh couldn't believe it. She is already a ton happier and he keeps telling me that Elvis will be just as happy as soon as he gets his new home. Thank God we didn't see them put him in the cage - I'm sure they wouldn't have done that anyway, he probably has to be quarantined or something but still.

Anyway - Josh took me out for dinner after a brief nap and when I got home and Elvis didn't run out and I only had to feed one cat tonight and he didn't rub up against my legs or try to drink out of the faucet while I washed my face - I just lost it. I'm really having a hard time.

I know in a few months it will be okay but right now it really really hurts. I miss him sooo much and didn't have much time to spend with him before I got home and we had to be off to drop him off.

All I keep thinking about is him being in a cage by himself crying for me. I told the lady if he wasn't adopted by Christmas, I'd take him back - I told God that if he wanted me to have Elvis that'd be the only way I'd know.

So silly to be upset over a cat - but he's my baby and I miss him a lot.

We are created to have a loving relationship with animals, and they all have their strengths and weaknesses... shudder the thought. But it's true.

In this world the relationship is strained because of Sin introduced, and the curse of God upon creation so that we wouldn't be imperfect people living in a perfect world. Imagine the damage we could have done. So nature got a bite to it in the process.

I grew up on a farm, and it was never easy to put an animal down. I had my favorite chickens, cows, and enjoyed being around my sister's quarter horse but couldn't stand the personality of the pony. We fretted when the cows calved, we sat up with chicks when they were born and needed to stay warmer than the coops were.

I look forward to the day when we have that relationship restored with the rest of Creation. It is just amazing when we interact with ones that have not learned fear.

I was walking my prayer time and the stray cat which adopted the property where we are at walking along. That reminded me of the two cats I used to herd out on these country roads. It was late and I looked back to see if the cat was keeping up and here was a deer fawn walking along the road behind me.

I sat down, and the fawn came over and looked at the cat and me, hung around a bit, nibbled on some greenery. Then it walked off. Cool.

In this world, love hurts sometimes. Jesus knows that pain fully in ways we can only imagine. But God loves us, from before the beginning of Creation. God loves his Creation too.

Now both of our kittens, Felix (6mos) and Lindy Hopp (4 1/2mos) are smiling regularly. Its fun to see them playing well. We picked a good pair from the two batches we had from a pregnant mother and daughter team of strays that adopted us. It was hard to see the rest go.

This is part of how I know we were made in God's image in ways that we often should ponder upon in our time with God. We know what it is to love just because the other is there, and the bond becomes real because we actualize it with our loving.

Peace to you sister.

I have a Siamese mutt cat! lol I say MUTT because I got him at a shelter, and I don't know what mix he is. His coloring and shape is the apple faced Siamese. I knew he was mellow yellow because he was in a cage with other cats, and they didn't bother him at all. I have had Siamese in the past, and at times they are NOT very tolerate of competition!

He is now 14 years old, and recently my H brought home a black lab. At first it freaked Rexie out, but now? WELL M&M knows who runs the house, and its NOT the dog!

Rexie has actually got more active when the puppy came. Its funny to watch them fight. He has no front claws, and he never was a biter. Rexie walks proudly up to the dog bowls and drinks, and the dog knows he better leave him alone! The puppy will want to play, but that cat - its so funny to watch - will make him back up and corner the stupid dog! All with voice, and pops from his front paws!

My SIL told me to get some video of those two, and put in on Youtube. lol I was thinking of maybe adding the 'jaws' song as M&M attempts to shalk his prey...lol and then loses!

I was glad we have a cat hole into the basement. When Rexie needs privacy he goes downstairs. Its funny to see M&M stick his head through the cat hole with this facial expression, 'Where are you going?"

{{{{{Reba}}}}} It's not silly at all. Elvis will find another home, and he'll be happy there. I know it was a very difficult decision for you, but I believe it was the right one.

I am kind of surprised by this, is this emotion talking? You said your other furbaby is doing better already.

The director of the Rescue e-mailed me this afternoon. She said after I left he kept crying and crying. They had put them in a cage to make it less stressful since he seemed so upset. After they got done she said he kept crying and crying and she felt bad so she brought him home.

She said she decided to adopt him herself and now he's in their bedroom getting used to his new surroundings.

I'm so thankful they will be calling him Elvis and that he didn't even have to spend one night family-less.

She said if my circumstances ever changed I could have Elvis back but I think it's best that he's off to what I know is a good home!

Callie is a completely different cat now - she's bouncing all over and playing and cuddling like she did when she was just a baby. I think the not having to live in fear of attack of the orange fuzzball is definitely the reason.

I miss my Elvis but am so thankful God has taken care of him. It's hard to let go but now I know this is God's will.

Still pray for me because I'm sure I will miss him on and off for some time - at least him having a home so soon is a bit of a balm for me. :)

That's wonderful, Reba :) I know you'll still miss him, but it's good to know he has a home now with someone who will love him.

I'm wondering, not as a new age enthusiast which I'm not, if you have considered aroma or herbal therapy for him.

Sometimes the presence of growing grass or other herbs can stimulate a pet in ways that our own applications of psychological assistance may not. I know, we like to think we are doing best by our pets... but sometimes it just isn't so.

We are on a different wave-length, if I may use those terms. God created us to be in relationship one way, whereas animals have another perfect position of relationship with God.

Just asking. I've found that pets are most instructive even about my own position with God than I'd ever imagine.

But then God created us to be in perfect relationship with Him, each other, and creation (including rocks).

IMO. But then what do I know. I just follow the lead as I'm going in purr-suit of His blessing and communion with all. I'm glad that I can consider our cats as part of those we serve to God's glory.

I'm sorry for those who think humans are more important than that which is below us. If that were true, Jesus had no business becoming the servant He did become.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
