Not alot. I have read some info. on them and really like the breed. I think the vet should be able to tell you exactly what he is. I think the breeds are very similer.

** update on new kitty** Much better today yesterday and today. Bahbi is following kitty, but still doesn't like it when kitty gets close to him and B will even chase him without hissing. This kitty is a wild one.

Thursday was my D.C.'s birthday!! http://www.flickr.com/photos/38186966@N06/4189471232/ He turned 11. And yet he doesn't look or act a day over 5! He is the most AMAZING cat EVER. Not to mention the most handsome.

The more I'm around our new baby, the more I think he's a ragdoll and the Siamese Rescue place took him cause both breeds have similar markings. quote:
Ragdolls have extremely soft (think bunny rabbit) fur that doesn't shed as much and rarely matts. Does Niko have that bunny rabbit fur? Yes he does...and next to zero shedding now that we've had him awhile. From what I read, the male Ragdolls get to be 18-20 lbs. but the females are about half that size. Not sure about the source for that...

My boy catkid is 18 pounds--a big boy--but not at all fat. He is bigger than a couple dogs I know. Deb--your pets are so cute--I love it when people share pictures of their furry four footed family.

I don't remember if I have posted in this thread about the Miracle of Smoky Watson. We came home in October to find that our fifteen year old sweetest cat in the world Smoky Watson had gone blind. (We called him Smoky Watson because the late great Bubba, pictured at left, had an official name of Sherlock Holmes of Tayaway.) I wanted a Watson to go with Sherlock and when we rescued this baby from the shelter MRs. K immediately called him Smoky, but I digress. He had two detached retinas, and they don't do surgery for that on cats. We tried several medicines that had to either be put in his eyes or swallowed (torture for him) but nothing helped. I know that God has a lot to look over, but I was not reluctant to pray often for Smoky's eyes. One day the vet told us that he had talked to a specialist at the UT Vet School and suggested we try blood pressure medicine. We gave him the medicine daily and I prayed for his retinas to re-attach. Within a few days he was acting as if nothing had ever been wrong. I don't think he can see 100%, but it is enough to do whatever he was doing before (which is mostly eat, sleep, and asked to be lifted to the bed to lay by/on me and be petted. It reminded me to be thankful for the small miracles that can result from prayer.

Hey Kerrlaw...what an awesome story! After visiting the eye doctor this morning, we found that Niko has cateracts in both eyes but is a good candidate for surgery. We have to come up with the money first...then we can schedule it and hopefully he will have a perfect recovery. In his case, it's pre-existing and was either hereditary OR from wrong milk replacement when he was weaned from his momma, meaning the milk formula that he may have received was not the correct kind. Regardless...he is responsive to light, but he just lives in a blurr for now.

Okay...I don't have cats because Thing 2 is anaphylactically allergic to them, and I'm almost there but not quite. Apparently I've been allergic all my life and didn't know it. When we lived in Alaska we got our first cat. It was during a HUGE rainstorm mum says this horribly filthy brown rodent showed up on the door step. Dad dunked in the bath only to find a BEAUTIFUL gold and white fluffy cat with amber eyes. I appropriately named her Fluffy. Dad took her to the vet and found out there was an Army couple who just PCS'd and abandoned the cat: her name was Rover. We changed it to Fluffy. We drove from Alaska to Southern Illinois before we moved to Oklahoma for 15 months. It was a 17 day journey, but we stretched it out and had a really good trip through Canada. Funny thing happened; Fluffy started panting! I had never seen a cat pant and apparently neither had my parents. She was born and raised in Alaska so apparently the heat of Wisconsin had her panting. It was the funniest thing. Fluffy stayed with us when we moved to Oklahoma and became well accustomed to my Barbie RV Trailer. I also have many pictures of her stuffed into dresses and high chairs as I spoon feed her. She never put up a fuss, she was always so ladylike, and when it was time for bed you'd find her curled up with me with one paw thrown across my chest or stomach. She then went to Texas with us where I entered her into the Cutest Pet contest on base and she won. I think she should have won Prettiest Pet but there wasn't such a category. We drove back to Illinois and left Fluffy with my grandmother when we moved to Hawaii. Shipping and boarding animals was horribly expensive so we left my cat with my grandmother, our big dog Muffin with some friends of my dads, and took our mini poodle, Mitzi with us. A few years after living in Hawaii we received a letter from my grandmother saying Fluffy died of poisoning. Just thinking about that moment still chokes me up...LOL She was a wonderfully majestic cat and if I can find any pics of her I'll post them. So while we were living in Hawaii one of the neighbours had kittens. Well, her cat had kittens; she didn't. We took one home and she ended up being a beautiful Maine Coon. I named her Gizmo. And she was appropriately named. In Hawaii we had geckos living with us and everytime she and Mitzi saw a gecko they'd run around the house going nuts trying to catch it. It was crazy. We moved back to Illinois and left Gizmo with a friend in Hawaii. It was a hard time for me but I managed. When we got to Hawaii Dad said, "NO MORE CATS!!! PERIOD!" A few years after being in Illinois this BEAUTIFUL, large black cat with a white spot on it's chest and white fur under the onyx coloured coat showed up at our house. I named her Mrs. Jinx and put pretty pink bows on her, and painted her toenails. She didn't like that at all and glared every time I did. We took her to the vet to get fixed and the vet said, "Mrs. Jinx is a neutered male." No wonder he didn't like the toenail polish and pink bows. He stayed with me when I moved to my first apartment and rebeled by peeing everywhere BUT his litterbox. So I thought if I got another cat it would calm him down. I adopted a shorted hair little white cat named Princess Leia. And boyyyy was she! Oy! She thought she was just the cat's meow and let everyone know it. She also told Jinx in two swats that SHE was top cat and he had better get used to it! Shortly after that I moved back in with the folks and gave my cats away. A friend took Mr. (name changed after learning gender) Jinx went to a friend and Princess Leia went to my grandmother, who promptly changed her name to Tinkerbell. I wasn't too happy about that. After that I figured out I had a severe cat allergy and quit adopting cats. Thing 2 has pet cats but he immediately washes his hands and face when he's done. Now when we get settled in Illinois with a house we're going to start fostering dogs and adopting handicapped dogs. I may even try to groom and board while we're at it. So that's my cat story and I'm sticking to it.
