We got our new kitty (8 months old) from the Siamese Rescue Organization last Saturday (1/23/10). There is a rescue organization for nearly every breed of cat and/or dog, I swanee!

He's doing very well...we were concerned cause he was so skittish with noises, but once he was in your lap, he was happy.

After his first vet visit yesterday, we found out why. Poor baby has terrible eyesight and it's genetic so he gets to visit a kitty eye-doctor to see what we can do, if anything.

Just to be clear , we're not complaining and this changes nothing for us. He's ours for life and we're so excited to have such a sweet boy.

You can see him here...He was named Avery, but now goes by Niko. There are Pictures From Home that show him in the last week.

I just don't get folks who don't like cats. Or those who think cats are sneaky. They are not they are just aloof at times.

We're picking up another Ragdoll baby on Thursday. I just love this breed. I wonder if there's a Ragdoll rescue? We've had bad luck with shelter cats in the past.

Try being asleep and they jump on your head? Land on your stomach? Trip you when you are waking up?

I love my cat but I can see why some people can't deal with it.

Concerning the poll, I had a cat named Garfield which was given to my on my 12th birthday. I kept him I believe five years, and he was about 5 years old when I gave him away in high school.

I should also add that Garfield was a stuffed animal of the famous comic strip cat, which I was a big fan of back then. It was Football Garfield with an old-school leather helmet on his head. My grandparents got it for me because I loved to read the Garfield reprint books from the bookmobile our library sent to our neighborhood.

When I was a senior in high school band I gave it away in a mandatory Secret Santa gift exchange to a freshman girl who was in the flute section with me, and she loved it because she too was a big Garfield fan. She was being egged on because she was a freshman, and I was the only upperclassman left in the flute section, and I didn't like that meanness the girls were getting. That was my way of showing support around Christmastime.

So it wasn't a real cat, but I hope it still counts.

Cats are too much like most people...which is why some people want a dog.

..... will I get in trouble if I resurrect this thread?

I've been doing some research and really REALLY want a Ragdoll Kitty!!!!

Anyone have any suggestions before I take the plunge (which may be a few months!)

I LOVE my Ragdoll kitty! She's so cuddly and affectionate. She doesn't like to be held too close (she was a little older when I got her, and came from a home with LOTS of kitties, so not much individual attention), but she does love her morning cuddles.

We've got a housefull of rescued kitties, but no ragdolls. (I seem to have a "thing" for orange tabbies and black-and-white kitties, it seems.)

I agree.

If a cat is handled lovingly from birth, they grow up to be very affectionate and downright demanding of caresses.

My husband grew up in a cat-hating family, but is fine with having them now because I like them. One day I walked into the living room, and DH was reading a book and petting a cat on his lap. From the corner of his eye, he saw me come in, and picked up the cat and dropped it on the floor.

Ha! I saw you!

He will now reluctantly admit he likes cats (but please don't tell his parents).

Three kitties now grace our home (and laps), aged 7 to 10.

All my cats are very affectionate in their own ways. The difference between them and the dog is the dog just gives me sad puppy dog eyes when she wants attention but the cats just get between me and whatever I need to get done so as to force me to give them attention.

We picked up our baby today. He's so cute. The dog loves him and Bahbi is avoiding him. He runs away when he hears him meow. I know it will take some time to adjust. I hope it happens soon.

The more I'm around our new baby, the more I think he's a ragdoll and the Siamese Rescue place took him cause both breeds have similar markings.

He lays across us like a ragdoll, which is just too cute.

Do you know a lot about Ragdolls? We're having to take him to an eye specialist next week, the vet referred us cause he thinks there really is something wrong with his eyesight.
