I have a cat care question I thought I'd throw out there ... About a year and a half ago, we became a two cat household. The tabby cat was very anti-social but never went outside his domed litter box before my cat got here. My cat, a tortoiseshell calico, never went outside her un-domed litter box before she got to my house either. A couple of months ago, I noticed two very large messes in the basement. I cleaned up both. A few weeks ago, we started noticing another smell. I looked for the mess but could not find it until this weekend, when we noticed a rather large mess in one of the same places that had been cleaned before. The litter boxes are located upstairs and downstairs. The downstairs box gets used less frequently than the upstairs one. Both are scooped and changed regularly. I've debated moving the downstairs box to the previously soiled spot (which, by the way, has been scrubbed first with a mixture of bleach, water and cleaning products and later treated with straight bleach) and/or removing the dome on the downstairs litter box. Only problem is the tabby cat is famous for digging aggressively and spreading litter all over ... and the new location is not conducive to that. It's in a corner that is not all that easy to access. Thoughts?

ORIGINAL: Miss Giggles For stella, maybe. Cats on leashes When we lived in Omaha Larry would put the Russian Blue in a harness on a leash and tie it to a plastic bat. They weight next to nothing. The cat could roam the yard but not get through the fence, and he was able to be with us outside.

Are you against putting a third litter box there? A litter box would be better than cleaning up a mess. I just did that today I've found cat poo in the living room a few times and dh noticed he peed there too. We cleaned it and put a litterbox there. I think the cat we had before did something there. The cat likes to nibble on the dogs raw hides. I gave the dog one a few days ago and he teased the cat with it! The dog was chewong on it and the cat came over and laid down next to him. He stopped chewing on it, rolled it over by the cat, the cat sniffed it, waited a few seconds then and took it back. It was too cute. The cat has taken a liking to my sons stuffed hippo. I bought from Kohls awhile back and one day my ds told me that the cat took it off of his bad and stared wrestling with. The thing is half his size and it looks funny when he caries it around. I asked ds how it got downstairs and he said the cat brought it down. I've never had a cat that acted like this one.

Yesterday a friend just moved into our guest room while she is waiting for housing. Cat pooped on the dining room floor. Yes, we got the message, but Cat will just have to adjust and remember the house is ours too - not just Cat's.

No, I"m not sure which cat is the problem child. Roomie blames my cat (who actually looks a lot like the one in still4givn's avatar) and I am of the "innocent until proven guilty" mindset. Do I need an enzematic cleaner even though the surface I'm cleaning is the concrete floor of the basement? I told Roomie that I read somewhere that the standard is actually one litter box per cat, PLUS ONE. We both think that's a bit excessive. I have checked the basement religiously daily and have not seen anything out of the ordinary. If it IS my cat, she may have just been mad at me because I was away one day last week. There are two previously soiled spots in the basement ... one behind the furnace and the other under an old end table next to an exterior wall. The second spot is the one that has been soiled twice. Plastic tubing from the central air conditioning runs along that wall, so it's easy to miss crevices there. It's not the easiest spot in the world to clean. If it's my cat, I've wondered if she dislikes the dome ... but the other cat cannot get by without one.

I had to get a covered box and the boy cat was fine but the girl didn't like the door. When it swung shut behind her she would just turn around and run out. The she started just putting her head and front paws in and doing her thing outside the box. That was actually kinda funny but not acceptable. Anyway, I took the door thing off and now no problems.

Resurrecting a favorite thread with a question... I have a ragdoll kitty... she's absolutely precious and about to turn a year old tomorrow. I brought her home in April and bought a kitty tree because she was used to them. Well, she uses it constantly!!! Sleeps on the top, plays on it, and uses it as a scratching post. I'm thrilled because I've had other cats that won't touch them and scratch up everything else. My question is, how often do you have to purchase new ones? She has just about taken off all the carpeting, and on the top, where she sleeps, it's beginning to stink. LOL! I'm thinking it needs replacing, but it's only been 8 months!! And right now, I just can't afford to go out and buy a new one... at least not until sometime around June of next year!!!

try replacing the carpeting with some remnants or scraps, that would be cheaper. Depending on the carpet, you can use a staple gun to attach it. I have a cat tree that I've had for around 10 years that's still in pretty good shape. My previous cats didn't use it much, but my two new kittens are always playing on it. It's great to see it getting some use :)

BTW, I had a dream last night I was playing with a little kitten that looks just like the one you linked to in your signature. Absolutely adorable!

you can do it :) You can also rip off the smelly carpet and replace it. Just be sure to get carpet that's fairly easy to wrap around the posts and edges, and a staple gun with heavy-duty staples. Orion is even more adorable than his photos :) He's going to be a lot like my Riley, who had to be put to sleep earlier this year.
