If you want a nice smooth bass, check out Jason Fox with Garment of Praise. He's solid and smooth all the way down to the A1.

This doesn't have anything to do with bass singers, but it may be worth noting that Daryl Petersheim sings lead for this group. Some of you may recognize his name. He is the one who won the first ever Singing News Songwriter's Search several years ago. His song, The Empty Tomb Says It All, is the Kingdom Heirs current single and charted at #44 the first time on the Top 80. Great song. Make sure to keep your ears open for it. :-)

Yes, thats right! i think those Garment of Praise guys are pretty talented. They could do well if they got soundtracks, and piano, and went all southern gospel. Listen to GOP cds, and Daryl has quite a few awesome songs on almost all of them from 2004 and newer.

Billboy! I saw the Inspirations last Saturday in Wooster. I've always respected the Inspirations for many reasons, but I never really considered them to be one of the top Quartets. I never bought an Inspirations CD in my life! I bought two that night and I'm buying another one. It's the best line up they have ever had. They will be winning many awards in the future. Back to the bass singers. Mike Holcomb can hit some serious lows! I mean that place sounded like thunder. If you get a chance to see them, do it! You will not regret it.

I am glad to know Tim Riley is back to singing. I get to go see Gold City in June here in Southeast MO. And from what video's I have seen from this year. Sound's like he is getting better with age. I love Gospel music

Tim Riley has been great for a long long time. Some that many have mentioned I never cared for thier tone. The ones who have a good rich tone no matter what note they're hitting is the most impressive to me.

By the way, one of the most underrated bass singers ever to me was/is Buddy Lyle. I never remember him hitting anything low on the Gospel Singin Jubalee show but live, wow he was really amazing. Great tone too.

The current lowest bass singer would be Tim Riley, and maybe Jeff Chapman a close second. Tim Riley is the current Lowest. Tim Duncan and Glenn Dustin cannot go lower than Tim Riley not even Mike Holcomb can't either and it be real clear like Mr. Riley can.

Holcomb sings lower than Riley on a regular basis with great diction, but I do prefer Riley's rich tone quality...especially around the low G-A area.

When Tim Riley hits the low notes no one out there today is any more clear than him not even Mike Holcomb. I heard the Inspirations and when Mike goes low you cannot understand what he is saying. Tim is the lowest and clearest.

The thing I have always loved about Tim Riley is that you can understand what he's singing even when it's low. There are certainly others out there who do that also, but Tim's the man in my book. He's also got some guts to his sound.

Mike Holcomb is the lowest consistently with Cecil Stringer right there ,too. Jeff Chapman is right there with Tim with the same "cut" in his voice. One we leave out is Ken Turner who can bust some pretty low ones also. Although they are not currently singing, the leaders of the back would have to be Will Adkins and Mike Bullock.

Without using vocal fry, Tim Riley is probably the lowest active bass singer. Will Adkins and Mike Bullock are lower than Tim. They are greatly missed. Nothing really wrong with vocal fry, its just another way to hit the notes and I like it too if done well. Mike and Cecil are two of the best.

I have always said that Jeff Chapman was one of the best bass singers around and after working with him some yesterday it only confirmed my decision. Well I didn't work with him our bass singer worked with him while we worked with Arthur.
Also can't forget Tim Riley and David Hester

Actually Will Adkins is back with the Gospel Harmony Boys and will sing with them as long as his health allows. He was with them at the NQC last week.

Has Paul Harkey come up in this discussion?

I found a clip or two of him on Youtube, He seems to have a great tone and depth to his voice, plus he hits some low stuff on this clip......

Good News From The Graveyard - Anchormen QT

plus, in the clip i have just shown i believe Paul Harkey was recovering from pneumonia and a lost voice. Incredible!

If you can do that, then you shouldn't have a problem finding a top tier group to sing with.

The current lowest is Tim Riley. He was before he retired and now that he is back then he still would be. Second to him is Eric Bennett. Both of these men can go low and when they do you can still understand the notes they are hitting.
