Donna, I've had 3 really bad yeast infections since my hyster in Feb. Prior to that, I had (maybe) two in my entire life. Stress is definitely a trigger, and I think Memaw's list needs to read lack of RESTFUL sleep. I can sleep until the cows come home, but if it isn't a good, restful time, I'm prone to picking up whatever bug is going around, etc. And even though you are on a steady level of HRT, have you had your blood levels tested recently? You may need some tweaking either up or down, depending on what your body is doing these days. In the mean time, lots and LOTS of yogurt!!

I wanted to add to the list also, if you wipe in the wrong direction i.e. back to front not thinking of it. That bacteria is not meant to be 'there'. Another thing is in the use of douches. If you use them, they can wash out the good flora from your vagina, and open you up to the possibility of a yeast infection. I definitely agree with the yogurt idea. If you find that you need to use inserted creams to treat it though, plain yogurt will help with the treatment of the yeast infection. Though as always, check with your doctor.

Yes, this has been my experience too. When I stopped douching and stopped using soap in the vaginal area, my yeast infections pretty much disappeared. When I did either one of those, I got yeast infections once every 4-6 weeks or so.

I've had one...when I was pregnant...it was just disgusting!!!!

I have a friend who has a very healthy chest and she gets yeast infections underneath her breasts...mostly in the summer. She uses some kind of cream to powder...but she's miserable most of the time.

Been ready for my ovaries to retire for quite some time. I've had enough of Aunt Flo. Two of my co-workers have their heaters going because they're too cold. I wanna slap them silly.

Have any of you on this thread read "What Your Doctor Might Not Tell You About Pre-Menopause"? My sister loaned me her copy and it makes a whole lotta sense to me, especially the section on menstrual flooding. Wondering what your thoughts are?

Crawling back into my igloo now!

Julie

It's a book by Dr. John Lee and a couple of co-authors, but don't know if it's downloadable.

Greetings, all! I'm new here, and already have two questions for you.

I'm 51, and have been in menopause since 2006 (December 18th, to be exact!). I finally threw in the towel and went on HRT a couple of years ago, and just this past March decided to stop. Oops--too soon! So I'm back on it now, but only since this past Monday...so the helpful effects haven't quite kicked in yet.

Meanwhile, here's my first question (please forgive me if this has been addressed recently--I didn't find anything in my search): Has anyone experienced severe hair loss? Before I went on HRT, mine was really something, and again now, my hair comes out in handfuls every time I shampoo. I'm so sure it will quit coming out once the HRT starts to work; meanwhile, I just wonder if I'm just an odd duck here or if anyone out there has been similarly astonished by the amount of hair being lost.

My second question is this: What about hives? Has anyone broken out in hives either before going on HRT or after going off HRT? About a month after I stopped taking it, I broke out and it's been chronic since.

Thanks for listening!

"Rose"

Hi Rose and welcome to the boards! I haven't experienced either one due to menopause.

I had two visits from Aunt Flo in June. I was really hoping that I wouldn't see her in July, but she showed up Saturday night and is still hanging around today. My feelings would not have been hurt if she had decided to skip visiting me all together from now on.

Welcome Rose!

I haven't had hives, but I do have contact dermatitis that's making me crazy! I have no idea if it's menopause induced or not, but it just happened for the first time in February and I'm still having breakouts...yuck!

I haven't experienced any hair loss, but I am only in the early stages of peri-menopause. I get eczema sometimes, but I don't think it is related to that either, as I usually get it after touching a plant or something else that starts it off.

I haven't experienced hair loss yet either. However, I was out to lunch with a couple of ladies that are a little older than I am. They both said that the hair on their legs and under their arms got much finer and almost unnoticeable after menopause. Finally, something to look forward to.

Rose, have you been checked out by the doctor lately? I know a number of women have hair loss with the menopause anyway, but it's worth checking that it isn't because of any thyroid issue.

I have noticed that my chin hairs are a lot lighter & w/ my eyes going it's hard to see them to pluck them. I get a lot of chin in the process! I also see that I don't have to shave as much. I'm pre, so does this mean that I'm getting close to wrapping this up? I always heard that it was a complete 10 year cycle. I started peri at 39 & I turned 49 a couple of weeks ago. I would say I'm looking forward to celebrating, but I really need to lose about 100 pounds first before I walk in that door. I hope I'm not too late! k

Well crud..I have to start over at zero again.
I'm getting about 3 months without cycling, then a real slow 3 day period.
Just enough to have to go get another box of tampons.

Anyone using Progesterone cream ? A friend suggest I ask my Dr. about it. I should be reading a good book on Menopause as I do feel like I'm starting it. Can you still have those ovulating pains and be starting it? I still get those and still have that sticky discharge you get when you're ovulating.
