Anyone want to let out a big belly ache moan for this dreadful hot summer & dealing w/ these Niagara Falls visitors stopping by more than once a month?!!! Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Well, it helped, but not much! Hang in there, gals!

I am just about to spontaneously combust.
I have hot flashes while sitting under the air conditioner!

However, I haven't had a visitor in awhile now....I can only guess how much luggage she will bring when she does finally show up.

I think I need to start charting my periods...I just started one and I swear I just finished one less than 2 weeks ago, but I can't remember for sure. Seems I can't remember anything for sure nowadays.

We keep our house at 76 during the summer months and we have a fan circulating the air in our room. I've been waking up sweaty every so often. Is this considered a "hot flash?"

Doink, I kept track of mine a few years ago because I wasn't on track like I normally and then it went back to normal.

I think that one is a night sweat....but I did have my first full blown hot flash yesterday ...not your few minutes power surge or night sweat. But instead got really really hot and sweat start pouring off me in the middle of the day and had to lay down and then I got really really cold. Fortunately I was at home, I sure would hate one of those things to come on out in public.

Memaw, I know your pain! Just got to work & had to bump the thermostat down a few. I'm sweltering!

Doinkdom, I have to chart mine so I'll know when to set up my annual. If I don't, I find myself having to cancel too often & they sure don't like that. If they see that, they what to run all these tests & I don't want them bothering me for the sake of making money. I know what's going on w/ me!!! k

I've always had a regular 28 cycle...always...until now

So I get totally confused when it's shorter or longer.

Has anyone ever heard of women getting "cold flashes" instead of hot flashes? I have a relative who says that happens to her.

Any of you take St John's Wort ? My aunt swears it helped her and I take it when I remember. I've been really emotional lately and hate it. I almost stayed home from church because I was ready to burst out into tear at any moment. Dh asked me wha was wrong and I burst . It helped and I was able to go to church and felt good afterward. I notcie I obsess about stuff in my mind and am constantly praying " renew my mind Lord."

I can go from too hot to too cold and back in seconds. I looked it up once and it's fairly normal.

Deb, I take St. John's Wort sometimes. I'm not sure how much it helps, but I think it helps a little. It might be better if I took it more consistently.

I have not taken St John's Wort, but I understand this. I have noticed that it helps me very much to realize that this is hormonally induced, and has no connection with the real world...I know not to make any decisions or to allow any conclusions I come to on those days have any sway over my life...I wait AT LEAST 24 hours before dealing with anything.

In general, that keeps me out of a lot of hot water. If I am feeling truly socially unacceptable, similar to what you felt like on Sunday, but I don't have a choice to stay home and let it pass, I take Tylenol.

I know it may sound weird, because I am not in pain, but it takes the edge off the chemically induced emotions for me, and I can usually function in society.

shallbe

I've been avoiding reading this thread. Must be my form of denial. I know I've been peri-menopausal for a couple of years. After reading the symptoms I have more than I thought I did... so that's why I can't think straight and lose words. What finally sent me to this thread is this never ending period. Ugh.

For the last two years I would go anywhere from 1 month to 6 months between periods. This last stretch was at least 4 months. I don't really track it. The periods themselves have been normal in length and flow. Normal until this last one which is now pushing about 6 weeks long. It stops and starts every day. It hasn't been heavy--one or two pads a day. It just doesn't stay done. I'm not at all uncomfortable...no pain, no cramps. I'm just tired of it. I've been putting off calling the doctor because for the last month I've been dealing with eye surgery (cataracts).

Skimming over the thread I see that several of you have had these loooooonnnng periods. Have all of you taken hormones to make it stop or has anyone had it finally stop on its own?

Bless your heart Laura. Don't ya know by now if you are avoiding it, it means you are supposed to be here? lol. Well welcome aboard. I was young when I had my menstrual cycles so messed up. Mine weren't quite as bad as yours (no offense), but the ob/gyn finally put me on a low dose birth control pill. It took about 3 months or so for them to finally normalize. So I went from having a 21 day period, down to the normal 5-7 days. Also the long spurts of a month or two in between normalized too. Now that I think of it, I didn't much mind that part..lol. I don't know if it's an option for you to go on BC, but definitely please talk to your doc about it, and see what he/she can come up with as a solution. Good luck with this.

Stacey

Yeah. I've now gone almost 2 days without spotting or bleeding. I'm a bit nervous about declaring that it has finally ended. Previously I said it had gone on for about 6 weeks. I reviewed that and it has really been about 12 weeks but the first month was just really light spotting. I have a regular appointment in August with my doc. I really do not want to be put on BC or hormones because other than the unpredictable periods I'm not having any uncomfortable symptoms of peri-menopause.

Laura, I am so glad you have an appointment with your doctor soon. I would talk to him about the options, and ask what he thinks of more natural alternatives. I have heard that some have had luck with tofu, as there are natural hormones in it. I haven't checked into it myself, but it may be worth a look see for you. Good luck, and ummmmm...have fun? lol.

Soy and Synthroid do not go well together.

Oops, I am sorry about that Laura. There may be other alternatives that you can use. I go to a store called Wise Woman Herbs. It's a great place. You may be able to find homeopathic remedies as well as tinctures etc. So that being said, your doc's the man. lol.

I plan to talk to him about the extremely long period. I'm hoping that since it finally stopped on its own that I won't need anything else. I really don't care if my periods are regular or not as long as I don't ever go weeks and weeks again.

Popping in with a question...

I've got a yeast infection, and haven't had one of those since before my hysterectomy. I thought they were a thing of the past, and have no idea where it came from.

Ideas?

Info From Here

Why did I get a yeast infection?

Many things can raise your risk of a vaginal yeast infection, such as:

* stress
* lack of sleep
* illness
* poor eating habits, including eating extreme amounts of sugary foods
* pregnancy
* having your period
* taking certain medicines, including birth control pills, antibiotics, and steroids
* diseases such as poorly controlled diabetes and HIV/AIDS
* hormonal changes during your periods

* stress ... yup, actually double yup
* lack of sleep ... no, but I don't feel rested when I wake up either
* illness ... nope
* poor eating habits, including eating extreme amounts of sugary foods ... nope
* pregnancy ...obviously not
* having your period ... obviously not
* taking certain medicines, including birth control pills, antibiotics, and steroids ...none of the above
* diseases such as poorly controlled diabetes and HIV/AIDS ...not that I know of, though diabetes does run in the family
* hormonal changes during your periods ...nope, and my HRT hasn't changed at all

So really, just stress can give you one?? When I used to get them all the time, they were definitely tied to hormones. I would always get them right before my period. I just thought I was done with them and it was very odd to get one after all this time without.
