Yep...a little achy this morning (thanks for asking ) but all in all...no night sweats for 3 nights now and only one evening with a headache that kept me up for hours on end.

I've been doing some deep breathing exercises and I think they're helping a bit. At least I feel a little more relaxed and not so keyed up.

Aunt Flo finally did not beat up on me this month. Probably the mildest one in years. I'm down to my last day & today I'm nauseous, but otherwise, I got through this one w/ no complaints. I doubt it means a thing, though. Back to the same ole, same ole next month w/ needing lots of Depends! k

Hi!

Came looking for this thread because of odd symptoms...

Been regular for many years. Still am and am about to turn 50. The last two TOM's have been painful, but in a weird way: I'm nauseous and having pain in my stomach...not THERE, not low. It is very similar to having ulcer pain, but it goes away after a day or two of flow.

Is this pretty normal for the beginning of menopause? I'm a widow, so it isn't pregnancy...besides, I think I'd recognize that, haha.

Just wondering.

shallbe

Hi all. Figured I'd pop in here since it appears I'm joining the menopausal group verey soon. Having a hysterectomy on the 8th, and right now we don't know if I'll get to keep my ovaries. Ovarian cancer runs in my family, and I'm having the hyster to get rid of uterine cancer (and horribly heavy periods which land me in hospital for too much blood loss) so it depends on how the ovaries look when he's in there taking everything else.

Had a little unusual experience this time. I mentioned that my period was milder than usual. I always have a little residual bleeding for about 2 days after my period. But, this time after being finished for several days, I started having light breakthrough bleeding for about 4 days. Thank goodness it finally quit. I don't know if it was because my period was so mild this month or just another one of those quirks indicating the end is near! Any thoughts? k

Probably just a quirk KD, but if you're concerned I'm sure you could call your gyn.

She's headed back to my house for a visit.

I'm really not concerned at all. I've had no problems w/ that part of the body all my life, so not real concerned it will start now. My mom's menopause road was pretty difficult too, but she survived it & never went to a gyno at all (she got mad at one for trying to push HRT on her so she quit).

I guess I just get tired of not knowing what to expect & being prepared. Didn't have enough of the "right" pads for it. It's crazy I need so many types of protection in this phase of life! k

I haven't ever had a nauseous feeling because of my TOM, but I do sometimes get stomach pain (cramps) now, and I hadn't had cramps since my early 20's.

There is a list of a whole bunch of peri-menopause symptoms somewhere earlier in this thread. Maybe that would be helpful.

Shallbe, I didn't comment because I'm not sure if my symptoms were the same. I used to feel like I had morning sickness for a few days before my period started. It got worse the farther along I was in perimenopause. I never went to a doctor, so I don't know if that's normal or not.

On the very first page (Link Here), there are links to quizzes and symptoms that you may want to check.

I don't recall having stomach issues, but I do have a lot of digestive issues.

And welcome to the thread Shallbe!

I'm 52 and still have regular periods, but they now come with all these handy dandy accessories:

Cramps that will double you over.
Clotting and mega-heavy flow.
Headaches, joint pain.
Nausea - in fact, I lose my appetite during that week now and am anemic.

I would check with my doctor since they would know my history. I would also check with my mom to see how she handled it if you have that opportunity. Apparently, much of what we deal with in the aging process is similar or the same as our mothers and grandmothers.

oh joy

My hysterectomy is on Monday, and TOM came to visit on Jan 25. Just finished today (quite short compared to usual!) What's the bet that it'll make a return visit Sunday night/Monday morning just for spite? My pre-op bloodwork came back showing I was anaemic (this is not a surprise ...) but it was at a point where I had to go in for a blood transfusion yesterday or risk having the surgery cancelled by the anaesthetist. I opted for the transfusion, since the anaemia won't improve without the surgery.

I tend to be up and moving quite quickly after any surgery, and this one requires a minimum 48 hour stay. So, I'm currently trying to put together a list of stuff to take/do to keep me occupied lest I go totally stir crazy.

Anyone taking St John's Wort for their moods? My aunt swears by the stuff and I seem to be very moody lately the point of crying at the drop of a hat some days. My periods are regular; light, then a heavy day and then light for a few more days and I have joint pain.

I tried it and it didn't help me, but I'm sure there are different manufacturers. If it's working for your aunt, just make sure you get the same brand.

I tried valerian root and it was helpful for me. It's more of a calming herb though.

I think you will find that you are going to feel much better after you recover from the surgery. When your hemoglobin returns to normal you will have much more energy. I wish you well with the surgery.

Well ladies ... I'm signing off the computer for the next few days. I'll pop my head in once I'm home from the hospital. My surgery is at 8am EST, and I have to be there by 6am. A friend from church is taking me and staying with me until I go into the OR. My hubby has 4 of our 5 kids at home tonight (one is sleeping over at a friend's) so he's going to be busy here getting them ready for the day. Much more productive use of his time than having him fretting over me. And yes, I know he's worried because he loves me.

Take care, y'all!

Is one spot on one tampon considered a period?
