Thyroids can go up and down after any pregnancy. Mine bombed after my second, but then returned to "normal" later. I say "normal" because there have been recent articles that talk about the inefficiency and the inaccuracy of the blood test levels. Many times I feel like I am suffering from the symptoms but still test in the "normal" range. If you don't like or agree with the dr.'s diagnosis, ask for a referral to an endicrinologist. I feel your pain - I lost all my pregnancy weight w/in 3 weeks, but could not loose more. Than when I went on the pill, I put on 10 lbs. in about a month. I always gain weight while nursing- always......normally when I start to wean and my cycle returns to normal, I drop a little of it. However, it's not happening this time and I too am totally exhausted. (although that could be because of the 5 little munchkins.)

Soy can cause problems with your menstrual cycle, but I am not sure if it would delay it. I just don't know though. That stinks that you don't remember when it started...

Aunt Flo came yesterday, so I am officially free until my husband comes home for his 2 week R&R this winter sometime. I know soy is the only non-animal product that is a complete protein. Being a bean I can see why it would mess with your hormones. Everything does really. I tried taking Vitex to level out my hormones and it put me into some weird psuedo-pregnant symptom deal. Really, it felt EXACTLY like I was pregnant. That feeling went away 24 hours after I stopped taking them.

For me, soy extended my cycle and caused some other symptoms. The phytoestrogen in soy can cause changes in women's cycles.

Hi, ladies, wanted to drop by with a little update. I just started my first post-tubal, post-pill cycle. I usually cycled every 4th Friday, which would have been last Friday, so 33 days...not bad. No increased PMS symptoms or bad cramps (so far). In fact, I didn't have my usual pre-start headache! Of course, my gyn said that it will take a good 3 months before "normal" is established, but signs are good so far. I like being off the pill. I took my first vacation last month without having to pack the extra pack and the backup method, and without having to count time zones and slip out of dinner to take my pill. My libido has increased, not tremendously, but it's noticeable. Best of all, my blood pressure has gone down about 5 points on both numbers! Anyway, thanks for the support in this journey so far!

Blood pressure was the #2 reason I had the tubal done. (Convenience was #1) My dad died at 52 of a heart attack. I'd always trended to the high end of normal for my BP, but a couple of years ago I had to go on meds for my BP for a while. I was going through a really stressful time, and I'd gained a few pounds. Once my life evened out a bit and I lost about 10 pounds, I was able to go off the meds. But, I knew the pill could raise BP, and I'm glad that going off them has given me at least a little margin on the BP.

Well, DH will be home for his leave (2 weeks) sometime after the first of the year. At first, we were planning to TTC if his 2 weeks overlaped my ovulation time....BUT.... I'm getting cold feet now. LOL! I don't really want to do hormonal BC during that time. For 2 weeks? And, neither of us are condom fans. So I'm thinking about using the projestrone cream for the entire cycle that month as well as maybe spermicidal film. Thoughts?

Would it be absolutely terrible if you did get pregnant? If not, then yeah, go with that. But one question, what's the progesterone cream supposed to do?

I was told not to take it until after you ovulate, otherwise you may not ovulate. At this point, yeah, it would not be good for me to get pregnant. I don't feel my body or my brain is even close to ready for another baby. I don't mind holding ohter people's babies. But then I can hand them back and know that 29 nights out of 30 in the month, I'm getting a full night's sleep.

I dunno. I know for me, even though we are both not fans of condoms, we are even more so not fans of getting pregnant. If you are that adamant about NOT getting pregnant and it's only for two weeks, you might want to consider using condoms. I've heard it said that obgyn's don't really consider spermicide alone effective birth control. I personally wouldn't trust it alone. I would use it in conjunction with a condom, however. And I'd love to be able to use the film, but the darn thing got stuck on my finger. Ick.

Well, I took a look at my cycle and it SHOULD be all good. But, ya never know. I guess I'll keep some condoms around, just in case.

Well, if my husband is actually coming home when he is supposed to for his leave, we won't have to worry about Not TTC. He won't be home for an egg anyhow. Shew!!!! Let's just hope my cycle does not go haywire and toss out an egg at the wrong time.

*reviving this thread so I can join in* DH and I had pre-decided that our DS would complete our family. We're going to explore permanent BC, but we want to wait until the fall before finalizing that decision. In the meantime, I'm 3 weeks post partum, and starting to explore options for the meantime. I'm currently breastfeeding, so some of my options are limited. However, I don't want to rely on that alone for BC. I've been looking into the mini-pill and the depo shot. Several years ago I took Yaz bc for acne, and had absolutely no side effects. (I've never gotten side effects from meds before). Anyone know more about the mini-pill and the depo shot? Would they have the same side effects with each other?

Depo is hormonal, but won't have the potential stomach upset type of side effects that oral BC would have. I also know some people don't do well when coming off the depo shot. But, just like with every form of hormonal BC, there are risks and you just don't know how your body is going to react until you try. I do know a couple of people who have used the minipill and have done will on it. Have you thought about an IUD? I believe you can use one or both forms of that while breastfeeding. Also, you can always use a barrier method until you come up with a more permenant decision.
