It's day 642 nicotine-FREE and day 739 tobacco-FREE for me. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death works in us, but life in you. But having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I BELIEVED, THEREFORE I SPOKE," we also believe, therefore we also speak, knowing that He who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and will present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, so that the grace which is spreading to more and more people may cause the giving of thanks to abound to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. -2 Corinthians 4:8-18

Great job Silverstring! I'm back from Newport today. Hehe...funny place to be smoke free. I didn't smoke the whole time. It was pretty easy there because I never smoked there before, so nothing reminded me of it. My mom and hubby smoked. I asked them not to offer me any even if I looked stressed or was crying. I almost smoked though, but luckily hubby bought some nasty brand, and my mom smokes menthols, so I didn't. I keep telling myself "I AM A NON-SMOKER" and that helps! The day after tomorrow I go to 14mg patches. Thanks for the prayers, Sarah! Jimbo, did you start getting energy back after you quit the gum, or was it before that? Is it the nicotine that makes us not have enrgy, or the cigs themselves? When did you begin to notice you had more energy? I'm hoping I start getting some energy soon. I have been smoke free for 23 days, saved $57, avoided 359 cigarettes and didn't waste 29 hours of my life!

Great job, Silver string and you, too, Christina. You've already gotten over a lot of "humps" if you're at day 23. Anyone know where Jordan went?

I don't recall any energy issues while on the nic-gum. But I remember sleeping as much as I could when I went nicotine-free, mostly to gain some painless (without craves) hours. There was a period of time after the gum that I experienced the fog, when I felt as if I had the flu and my head was in a barrel. Here's a good resource page: First 72 Hours of your Quit Day 643 nicotine-FREE, Day 740 tobacco-Free

A verse from my morning devotions: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. -Galatians 5:1 Day 645 nicotine-Free, Day 742 tobacco-Free

Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. -Galatians 5:1 Thank you; keep up the good work --- the spreading of God's word; I, for one, need this type refreshing and encouragement. No, I'm not doing so good at the moment but I am reminded of Isaiah 40:30 & 31, "Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." (New International Version) I wait; He is renewing my strength as He is speaking these words to my spirit from Isaiah 41:10 "" I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, 'You are my servant'; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. " quote:

Hi guys! I figured I'd hop over here too. I've been struggling to quit smoking....goodness...since Nov/Dec 2006! I just quit trying to quit, because it was way too hard. But, being Christian now, and knowing that God is on my side, I know I can do this. It's a struggle for me because my home life is stressful, and I have family members that smoke around me as well. I haven't yet started praying for help, but I'm meaning to. I am sincerely wanting to quit--for my health, and for my kids' health, and because I don't know why...it just feels WRONG to smoke now, for some reason or another. I smoke about 2 packs a day, and I honestly don't know how I would even start to quit living with smokers like I do. Does anybody here have any tips?

Thanks DenimDiva! Do you personally have any tips? I've gotten tips from other quitting smoking places online (back when I first tried) but none of their tips worked...hrm...

Well good luck and God bless! I'm not sure when I'm going to start...maybe Saturday. It would probably be easier to do then, when my dad will be home. Until then, I can pray that God helps me in this difficult task ahead.

ORIGINAL: purplepixie87 Thanks DenimDiva! Do you personally have any tips? I've gotten tips from other quitting smoking places online (back when I first tried) but none of their tips worked...hrm... If you'll read through this thread, there are LOTS of tips and links. One in particular is: http://www.whyquit.com/ Bookmark it and use it! The number one starting place is to CLOSE THE DOOR on tobacco & nicotine. I tried nicotine gum but that only delayed the real withdrawals. When I decided to CLOSE THE DOOR, I was forced to deal with craves any way I could, except with tobacco or nicotine. The next is to daily commit to remain tobacco & nicotine free one crave, one hour, one day at a time. Don't commit to more than that because it's too much to think about and we only have today to actually deal with. It takes about 72 hours to get rid of nicotine and by 120 hours you have come through the worst. So to help me celebrate that progress, I carried a piece of paper with the number of hours, the date and time with me until I finished 120 hours (5 days). I was especially nice to add 8 hours each morning that I slept through. (The 8 or so hours you go without nicotine each night is proof that you can go that long without it.) Make a practice of posting your commitment to stay nicotine free each day. That accountability really helps. A few more tips: Reduce caffeine intake by half because nicotine has reduced its effects by that much. Drink lots of water. Walk, jog, run, or workout if possible. Sleep a lot. To satisfy the oral fixation, use toothpicks, Altoids, sugarless gum, Listerine, coffee stirrers. You'll probably have the munchies so you need to go ahead and buy whatever works best for you (low carb, low fat, low calorie). As I said, read the WhyQuit site and this thread. Until you have a firm control over triggers & craves, make quitting your Job One! Your future and your life is at stake. If you have to let a few things go, the reward will be more than worth it. Day 646 nicotine-Free, Day 743 tobacco-Free
