You have to buy that base game which I believe comes with one month (or so) of online play time. Its a calendar month and not like actual play time. So it doesn't roll over or anything. They also have deals to buy months in blocks of 3, 6, etc. (I think).

Now Guild Wars has free online play, but a fairly steep entry fee for the game from what I recall. Also, I looked just the other day, and I can't figure out which Guild Wars I would need to buy. There are several versions out in different prices. Not sure how it would limit me with buying one or the other. It looks like this geek needs a geek of his own to help

But as for WoW, you just buy the game and sign up online with a credit card to buy your play time. Come November (??) there will be the new expansion game of WoW called The Burning Crusade. This changes a few things like max level, opens up new areas, and some new professions. You don't have to buy it to keep playing or to start playing. You just can't do the new stuff.

Elpenor says that you may want the newer game. Nicer graphics and some more options, but you can play with the older version. Just like the wow expansion I would suppose.

I interupted his EQII game to ask . I can't play wow tonight. I have gone back to college and have class tonight. Oh, the things we do for our edumicasions.

Here's something kind of amusing for you.

My daughter and I both thought up an idea for a book. We got the idea from a little video made from WoW footage and put to a song, but we see much more depth in the possible story lines.

So my daughter, hunterjumper, and myself have been fleshing out the characters and the background and elements of the plot and story line. And... and this is the real kicker... we started up characters on Thorium Brotherhood to represent the characters in the story. We are using them to kind of "get the feel" of who they are and help develop out some of the particulars.

An author does not reveal his story in development, so we can say no more

But it is at least a reason to play WOW and its a lot of fun to think all of the possibilities out.

umm, how do I put this.... there are lots and lots of novels about World of Warcraft. And my DH and sons cannot bear to part with them after they have read them. So we have a stack.....

Perhaps I could convince them to let you borrow a few... for a while... indefinately (just kidding sweetheart. I am sure they would send them back).

Ever get to Atlanta?

But then again, it is great fun writing these things out for yourselves. Oh, and in reference to another thread, there is a dragon on the side of the Alliance. Nobel but somewhat self serving creature.

Heh, we are not writing a story because we want to sell it. We are writing it because it is burning in our minds and we want to put it down for ourselves

Its a fun thing. We may never even finish it, but its the journey we take together doing it that is the best part.

My daughter is extremely creative and she likes to write fantasy. Of course this makes active project number 4 for her.

We live a few hours from Atlanta, just over the SC/NC line in NC. I have a good buddy there in Atlanta that I owe a visit to.

That cat ought to be REALLY hungry by now

I was playing yesterday and the following happened. I had to slay beasts to get some drops. I only needed 6 drops of the item. I killed 6 and got 3 drops. Then I killed 27 more and got nothing. Then I killed 3 more and got the last 3.

That my friends is what is really frustrating about some of the quests in that game.

You Kept count?????

I use the Cosmos interface and it keeps track for me. I just keep going till I have all my drops. But 27, sheesh, that is ridiculous. But then again, you are Horde and I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeealy don't feel sorry for ya. Keeps you squishy bad guys busy and out of trouble.

Hey - that's nothing....

When he was farming to get his mount money... He figured up how much silver he earned per minute (in his head) LOL.... He is an engineer isn't he? I gotta love him!

I like Horde - the alliance NPC's are just too creepy.... (scarily happy)

Yes I did.

And a level 40+ mage can earn about 7 silver per minute farming the rock elementals in the Badlands

If you play a low DPS class, you will have lower SPM (silver per minute)

It takes a warrior forever (comparatively) to take down a rock elemental.

AAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggh! Engineers are weird!!!! (running around in virtual circles)

I'm an artsy fartsy type. Just kill the crunchies and grab the stuff and move on. Watch out for agro. As a hunter, I have to back up to get into range and sometimes I'll back right into some monster's agro range. Sheesh.

Then I have my brother in law who shows up for a quest with a girl gnome with big pink pony tails....too funny! but wow, he is good at sheeping creeps. And the pony tails were easy to spot quickly.

We may be weird, but we know our KPM (kills per minute), our DPS (damage per second), our SPM (silver per minute), and our SAA (spousal aggravation average)... all down to the 4th decimal place

I don't even want to think about how high my SAA is right now

Sheesh! Gnomes... icky.

I was sheeped for the first time ever yesterday. I was in Strahnbad, by Alterac ruins, and one of the Syndicate mages sheeped me. I was playing wife's character for her a bit (trying to get up to lvl 40 - need I say why?) and all of a sudden, I was a sheep.

Talk about frustrating. Now I know what it is like when I do it to others

can we all say "bwahahahahahahahahahha'

sorry, just had to do that. I have never been sheeped but I did end up in a "chick fight" in the gnome's home pub. And I found my poor little gnome begging for mercy. My sweatheart challenged me when I was busy arranging my stuff in my bags. I was wondering why I was getting invited back into the group again. I was really being invited to a challenge. DUH.

I play with my husband and we try to stay at about the same level. He is out of town for a few days so I guess I will have to be patient. Patience is a good thing. Patience is a virtue. Patience is part of the fruit of the spirit.

Oh, come to think of it, when you get sHeeped, you have to be pAtient. (tee hee)

You can get knocked off your mount. ;-)

This may not be the place to put this but I will anyway plus in Prayer and Praise Reports. Any updates will be there.

One of the ladies in my guild has a tumor near her spinal column in the lower back. She had to stop working because she couldn't sit or stand for very long. It has been getting worse. Now she is going in for surgery Monday. The surgery could leave her paralyzed. She is a young mom with a elementary school-aged daughter. Her husband seems to be doing ok but it's hard to tell when you can't see or hear someone.

Please keep them and their doctors and nurses in your prayers. Here is the prayer request thread for them.

Me too!

Lord, may you guide the hands of the surgeons, or better yet.... remove the tumor by Your hand.

In Jesus' Name

Amen.

I will definitely pray as well.

But to interject a little humor (oh please forgive me folks, this is a WOW thread after all) but I suppose there was nothing Doctor Gregory Victor in Arathi (or chief physician Gustaf VanHowzen for you ally cats) could do about it?

Ok, I know some people may be shocked or offended. I apologize. I find humor to be therapeutic. I do sincerely pray that all will turn out well for this lady, preferably by direct removal by God's own hand, but hey, he raised up surgeons just for this very thing.

grr, Hunterjumper, distract him while my rogue goes into stealth. I am about to sneak up behind him and slap him one!

We have plenty of serious threads on these forums. But it is interesting that when I log on everyday that there are sometimes three pages of new messages in the games and humor section. Tells you something, doesn't it

I just started playing again after a 3 month break. The Terenas server is so much better than it was before. Part of the reason I let it go was the extreme lag and disconnect issues. Now I just have to deal with my PC lagging.
