There must be something going on with Johns and their shoulders. Here, John is having problems with his right shoulder. He has to get some imaging done on it on Friday.

I hope the doctor can do something quickly to help your John's shoulder.

Hopefully it's nothing more than having slept wrong. I've done that and it can be quite painful for a few days then it's fine.

I'm hoping the trouble with my upper left arm is due to overuse, including sorting out an Avon order for my customers on Saturday. The ice pack I have on it seems to be helping so hopefully in a couple of days it will be much better.

Pain in arms can be a sign of heart trouble, so of course Deb is concerned. As of yet the doctor's office hasn't called back. If I don't reach them this afternoon I'll try again in the morning.

Yeah, I'm concerned. But he says he's better than yesterday.

I'd like to throw out a random question, but I can't think of one. Shar Mar has so many clever ways of generating conversation in her thread. I need to take lessons from her.

After yesterday's struggles to get to church, I've been thinking about Christians who don't take church seriously. Missing church, to them, isn't a big deal. Does that lacksidasical attitude bother other people? Why or why not?

I just got off the phone with the nurse at my cardiologist, and after describing alll the symptoms of my upper arm pain she believes it is some sort of strain and that if it does not improve in a day or two should be X-rayed. She suggested I call my primary care doctor in the next couple of days to see if he agrees and either want to see me or order an X-ray. The nurse didn't think that the sypmtoms indicated heart problem because there were no other indications that might be the cause. There is even a certain spot on the upper arm where if I press on it there is pain.

DebbieLynne suggested I "briefly" let you guys know about the call, and for me I guess this is "brief".

Really, hardly any words at all. Oh...I guess she thought I should limit my typing....so I will actually end right here.

..... the African momentos sound very cool!!

Question of the day:

People who are lackidasical in their relationship with Christ sometimes make me feel sad, because they are missing out on sooo much 'stuff'... but as far as their church going habits (or anything else for that matter)... I'm not bothered... because in the end... THEY have to stand before God...

How they act... how they handle life... is ultimately between them and Jesus...

...

On the other hand... I can empathize with you guys.... your day to day challenges just to LIVE and FUNCTION are incredible... and yes... there are those of us who take life for granted and still tend to be whiners... (all fingers please point at me!)

Do whiners get on your nerves?

Whiners bother me because I struggle with whining and self-pity myself. I guess my struggles should make me more compassionate.

I started overcoming self-pity in 1997, when I lived in a nursing home. One afternoon, I was wallowing in a perfectly good pity-party, when the guy two doors down started barking. He was a good-looking boy, probably in his mid-twenties. He had severe Cerebral Palsy that left him quadriplegic, blind, severely retarded and non-verbal. All he could do was bark like a seal when he needed a diaper change.

So as I was sitting in my room telling God all the reasons why my life stank, this little guy started his seal-bark. So I blurted out, "And on top of everything, Lord, I have to live down the hall from that!"

As soon as I said that, my thoughts sounded like the Lord was saying to me: "He'll never see a sunset. He'll never sing in church. He'll never fall in love. He'll never have a friend. Now what exactly were you complaining about, honey?'

Whoa!

I'm glad to hear that the doctor's office agrees that it's just a strained muscle. Also happy to see John joking around, always a good sign!

QOTD: I think it's sad when people don't seem to think church is important. On the other hand, we're having a hard time finding a Bible preaching church, so I can understand why some people get disillusioned. Our body of churches subscribes to two publications, The Lookout and The Christian Standard. I was reading an article in one of them that declared the Culture War is over and Christians lost! The gist of the article was that we need to quit being politically involved and stop speaking up against gay marriage, abortion, etc... Just accept people as they are and pray that they'll see the need to change. More than anything else, don't voice politically incorrect opinions or folks might not want to come to your church. Even the more conservative churches in our area are feeling the pressure to dilute the message.

Question - I really find it sad. My church is my family (and I come from a very close family so that is saying a lot). We are faaaaaar from perfect, but I can't imagine going through like without my church family. I can't imagine my family not being a priority in my life. Yes, there are legitimate reasons not to make it to church (and I know that my change in career will create challenges), however so many folks make a habit of it and there is not excuse aside from the body of believers is not important in their life. I find that sad.

My church isn't as conservative as I'd like (think John MacArthur), but by New England standards it's probably as conservative as it can get. We have to miss a lot in winter because of the cold weather's impact on our health, but the rest of the year we make a real effort.

Sunday, part of me would have loved to use the attendant situation as an excuse not to go. The previous week, things were said in Adult Sunday School that struck me as being Seeker Sensitive, so I was extremely upset. But I knew better than to use that excuse. And this week class was much more Scriptural! Additionally, Pastor D preached on the authority of the Bible, which is probably my favorite topic! So I'm really glad we went!

That's good you went. There are time that I don't feel like attending church, but I do anyhow. And I am alway glad I did.

I'm currently missing church. The last three or four times, it was so painful and difficult to transfer into the van that I stopped looking forward to it going. I was actually glad when my aide situation began requiring me to stay home. Now that I know my hip joint has completely worn out, as in non-existent, I understand that the pain and weakness isn't something I can simply work through.
Deb, pray with me that a lift van will 'fall from heaven' so I won't be shut-in on Sundays.

I will pray for that, Marsha!

Your situation is much different than people who skip church because they just don't "feel like it." If I suffered with your amount of pain, I'd stay home too. I go when I have migraines, yes, but that's much different than a migraine!

Marsha, Deb and I will pray that God provides you with wheelchair lift transportation to and from church. It would be so good for you to be able to get to church without a lot of pain.

I figured if you wouldn't visit my thread, I'd have to visit yours!

Surprise!
Hey DebbieLynne, I have been a very bad girl for not coming to visit.
We were gone on a weekend trip and now have another planned for this weekend. Excuses, excuses, I guess. With that said, How in the world are you anyway?

Anyone have any ideas on how to calm down a (severely) overreacting child? He's just about to have a meltdown and my ears can't take much more.
