I have at least ONE book stashed in my desk at work, my backpack for school, under the seat of my truck (VERY useful in traffic jams)...
I refuse to do the Kindle thing...there's just something satisfying about a REAL book and turning pages...
One of these days I'm going to have to go through my books...we have a trade-in place here...hmmmm....

When someone mentions a tv show or the newest sitcom and you look at 'm dazed, cuz you haven't watched it in months except for maybe the weather or the news... (or not newspaper's better) ;)
or someone mentions a movie of some sort... and u think is that a book?

I went to my favourite Christian bookstore today and their fiction 'guru' and I were comparing notes on different books. She was giving me recommendations, I was giving her recommendations. It was great! Then the store manager who'd been standing nearby told the girl to go and get a book by Francine Rivers that I'd never read before and GAVE it to me! WOOHOO! That was the last thing I expected to happen! Now that's what I call unexpected service!

... when your earliest child pictures shows you sucking your thumb... while reading your book.
... when the fire department comes out, and have to insist on you putting the book down and exit the building.
... when in college your bed was held up by books instead of the fashionable milk crates.
... when your library consistently have to kick you out.
... when the library comes to you to see if you have access to a specific manuscript or book
... when your children never have to worry about finding you. Just look in the bookstore or library.
... when Halloween involves handing booklets out to children
... when no one wonders what to get you for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, etc. Books.

For me, it wasn't college, but I do have boxes of books under the bed which have been moved to the really saggy bits to keep the bed held up a bit better.
I have handed out bible tracts during halloween.
People know to buy me books for Christmas, birthdays etc. The thing is trying to find one that I haven't already read.

You need a separate storage facility to hold all your books.
People start coming to you to borrow books instead of the library.

When all your ebay and amazon recommendations are books you've already bought.
When you have your and your hubby's library card numbers memorized.
When you have boxes and boxes of books you haven't read yet.
When you get your paycheck and automatically know which books of which series you're going to buy.
When your birthday list consists of giftcards to Books A Million, Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Walden
When you download chapters of books because you can't wait for the hardback to be released. Then you buy it and read it again.
When you buy entire series at a time.
When you like an author and buy their entire works in one sitting.

I already do those things.
I don't do ebay or amazon, as I don't have a credit card, but I will spend hours going through my favourite Christian bookstores database looking for new books, and find I have the vast majority of the books in the genres that I like, unless they haven't been printed yet.
I pre-order books before they've been printed, especially if they are by certain authors.

When you preorder books in a series years before they're released.
When your mail comes and it's all books, but you don't remember buying half of them.
When you're 25, but all your book friends are blue haired old ladies who discuss so-and-so's latest romance.
When you create your own character to insert into your favorite series.
Two words: Fan Fiction!
When you begin wondering what your favorite characters would do in certain situations.

When you get to the end of the series and you don't want it to end.
You start suggesting books to other customers in a bookstore.
You wonder how you would handle living in the story.
When you wish you could give the characters advice.

When your "Star of the week" in 1st grade and one of the questions is "What's your favorite TV show?" AND you don't have one so you ask if you can list a few (10 at least) of your favorite books instead!
Then you continue doing that throughout elementary school.
And then you grow up and have kids of your own and they do the same thing!!!
When the owner of the used bookstore calls you when he gets books in that he thinks you might like, or you've been looking for! Or when he goes to estate auctions because they listed a bunch of titles that you have on your running list with him! Then he gives you a special deal!
When the librarian invites you down to the basement of the library to the "in storage" stacks - a place few regular patrons ever get to go - just so you can help her find the books on your list!
When you just hand the librarian at your local library a $5 every couple of months just to take care of your overdue fines.
When you know the library card numbers of every member of your family - all 6 of them!

flu my mum wanted to get me books but she had no clue of what I had read or hadn't. So she called me and spent like 30 minutes going through each book, "How about this one? Have you read this one? No? Grab it, Thing 1! She hasn't read it!"
