Okay... I have a very strange question and I'm not sure where to post it - so this is where I'm puttin it. It's gonna sound like I'm nuts, but I'm serious. I keep discovering cuts on my left hand... I have discovered 4 of them so far. One of them was deep enough to draw blood. I have no clue how I cut myself. They are very thin, about half an inch or so long, and some are deep. They go into my skin at an angle. They are on my left thumb and index finger. I have been discovering them mostly after a shower. I haven't been using a razor during the times I've discovered them.
Is it possible that my hair is cutting me when I rinse it / wash it? I can't come up with any other possibility... My hair is nearly to my waist, so I'm pulling on it for quite a ways when I wash it.
I'm just kind of freaked out by this. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Or does anyone know if your hair can actually cut your skin?

I don't know if it's the same thing, but my skin is very dry, especially on my hands and feet, and particularly in colder weather I get splits on my fingers/thumb, especially near the nail. I just put antiseptic cream and a plaster on them, and let them heal. I've been able to prevent much of it by using a good hand cream.

Thanks, Manda. My mom get splits on her hands, too. I've seen what she goes through, so I definitely feel for ya. I don't think that is the case with this though. It literally looks like I took a sharp knife and tried to peel my finger... because the cuts are very thin, yet deep, and at an angle. I would think it would split not sideways underneath the skin and so cleanly.... That's why I'm so confused.

Hmm... that is interesting. I'll have to try keeping it moisturized more and see if that takes care of it then...

Do you have a brand of hand cream called Neutrogena there? It's supposed to be what Arctic fisherman use (lol) and it's pretty good.

I think so.. though I'm hesitant to buy anything new as I've got an absolute ton of different lotions... lol I have one that I like a lot that has dead sea minerals in it.

My doctor told me the last resort, if it got really bad, was to wear thick lotion on my fingers and fingertips at night, inside cotton gloves.

I get the same thing during the winter. I use Burt's Bees Hand Salve on them and it works wonderfully! It is pricey but I'll probably get 3 winters out of the same tin.

Wow. I get these, too - I always assumed it was the razor, but yeah, I'm usually careful with it. What a strange cause!

Hair can cut you.
I would think that is the cause. Try not to slide your hands down your hair as much to see if that is how you are getting the cuts.

While you are waiting for the lotion to work, you could put on surgical gloves just for washing your hair.

My oldest DD is attending cosmetology school and has several little cuts on her hands from clients hair.
It's sharp!

. LOL it is nuts I know! But when my fingers are dry and already starting to look cracked I have cut myself with my hair in the shower. And it hurts!
