Have any of you ever gone back to a church you had left for whatever reason?
Without going into details I'm just wondering if this happens to other believers.

There's been one or two that we went back
for various reasons.
We've had them come and go and return here as well.

Only because of deaths or weddings would I go. I have not walk in to it because of being religiously arrogant.

I can say I have, and it was after the pastor we left because of was no longer there. Unfortunately the leaving the church also precipitated decisions that resulted in much pain and are documented here as well. I find it interesting to note, that among other issues the pastor was real big on pushing Purpose Driven life and even wanted to implement a Saddleback style of ministry. After we left the church, things got worse and many people got hurt. I do not know today if that was the right decision given all that went on afterward, but we are both back today and the Pastor is a sound man of God and of the Word.

Sure, but we left them because we moved a few hours away, so that probably doesn't really count.
I love to visit my old churches and say hi to people I haven't seen in a long time :) But, with the cost of gas and the time it takes it's difficult to do so very often.
We're probably going to return fully to a church we went to in this area the first time we lived here years and years ago, once we're done driving a couple of hours each way every weekend to the town we lived in previously to finish some work on our house (so we're attending church up there for now).

We did it and I'm so thankful the Lord brought us back. When we left our church, it was during a painful split. I had never in my life been involved in a church fight, and I hated the fact that I was actually on a particular side of this one. We were gone from June 2000-Sept. 2001. During this time, we attended two different churches and found one that we really liked. But we never changed our membership. To get to either of the other churches we attended during that time, we had to drive past the one we had left. My husband said this bothered him. He is a pastor's son, and he grew up in parsonages next door to the church he was in. He couldn't stand it that we couldn't attend the church of our denomination that was in our community. I thought we would feel very uncomfortable if we went back. The pastor who we felt had caused all the difficulty was gone (he had been badly hurt, too, and as far as I know has never pastored again) but others who were involved were still there. But my husband started saying he really wanted to go back, and finally, I agreed to go for a Sunday evening service. To my extreme surprise, there was no discomfort, only a feeling of being at home. I knew then that the Lord wanted us in that church, and we came back. One of the things I've been happiest about in it is that I knew that God had directed us. Just knowing that He led led us specifically is something I find exciting. It makes me want to say, "Hey, God talked to me! Wow!" And this church has been one a huge blessing in our lives, one the greatest, if not the greatest, we've had since moving to the city where we live in 1999.

I continued to go after they kicked me out, but only to encourage and support my husband. Since I stopped that silliness, I have gone back for funerals, but I would never ever go back in order to attend church.

Yes, I have gone back to 2 Churches for different reasons-The 1st Pastor left and so did I, the 2nd I was not getting fed and felt the people were wishy washy, because the Pastor was young. I since have gone back to the first and continue to go back to the 2nd. I have heard it all from lots of people-with I am a luke warm Christian or I am church hopping..I don't care. Both Churches have accepted me, come or go.

I left one as a teen and went back last year but left again. However I feel i shouldn't have left and missed Gods direction. I now want to return but am really worried about how people will react at the current and old church. (I actually don't really want to be in either but I have to go somewhere.)

I have never run to or away from a church. And I think that is one of the troublesome areas today. People are too hasty, too quick to make a change. We have been in churches when 'bad' things happened. We have watched as people bolted out the door instead of waiting and praying and watching to see what God was doing. He may lead you out. But God's movements are generally much slower than ours and we need to be patient. We have left two churches and both times followed intense times of prayer (at least a year) before He released us. I think at the root of most 'leaving' is one's own comfort rather than the Lord's will.

Well, Liveloved, maybe it's a little too easy to judge us.  Even after I knew I needed to go, I didn't. I knew in late July of 1987, but I couldn't make the move. I waited until they kicked me out in late December of 2000. Ha-ha!
Twelve and a half stinkin' years -- minus 1997 - 1999, when we had a better pastor who made things far more tolerable! -- I stayed there. But he got kicked out! Oh, they would say that he didn't, but it was obvious -- they deliberately, calculatedly made it impossible to stay.
One single church denomination for 50.5 years, then when I finally got kicked out, I went to one place, where I remain.

I have gone back, but only for special occasions.
LiveLoved - I was attending a church for 27 years. I grew up there, and then the son took over. I told God I would stay until the son was voted in as the new Pastor. Since I knew I could not submit to him, I left.
Then I went to a church for 8 years. I was very involved. I knew I should leave way before because there was a spirit of superiority there. The wife of the Pastor would do horrible things to people. So I left.
I then went to another church. I met my husband there, and it was a great time of healing. Then the Pastor changed, and I could not do ministry no matter how much I tried. Plus my soon to be husband wanted to leave and go to a new church and my ex still attended and I was done wanting to see him all the time. I was there almost a year longer than I should have been. I go back here quite a bit, as I am friends with a lot of people from this church and some of my family goes there.
I am now at a new church. It has been 2 years. It is very different from what I am used to, but I am growing as a person.
I said all this to say that I am not a church hopper. I have known I was to leave, but I always stay longer than I should, which ends up being bad for me. But I have been abused by the leadership in my church, and I won't be anymore. So if it means moving churches, I will. But God is good and I am in a great place, where the Pastors are not abusive. Not perfect, just not abusive. God is good and has blessed me and my husband.

i got a funny thought - i started in church like about 30 years ago, two were store front churches and one was a regular church building, i went back to three of them to see if they were there and they are not there anymore. I have no idea where they went or what happened to them. the one thats in the regular church building is now a korean church. so i really cannot go back to these 3 churches because they are gone with the wind.

My parents have. They left the church I go to now because it was a little dry. Also, they had exchange students for several years so they went to a church with a huge youth program.
Then about a year ago they came back to the church where I am because it was hard for my dad as a former pastor to be in a church with different doctrine than he believed. Also, they had livened things up a little so it's not all dry.
