I have one week and about $200 for my dd's Sweet 16. Her favorite colors are black and red. I'm going to try to make a corsage out of those colors. She is getting a porcelain angel that my grandmother gave to me when I was adopted (the angel is holding a banner that says "January" on it - it helps that dd and I share a birthday) and a set of pearls that my dad gave my mom on her 16th birthday and they gave them to me on my 16th birthday. Any other fun ideas or suggestions?

Well, what does your daughter like to do for fun? What is her personality like? Would she prefer a nice dinner with 1 or 2 close friends or a snack party with 20 friends (can be done under 200)? Is she a camping in the woods kind of girl or a day at the spa kind of girl, or both?

My neice had a nice Sweet 16, she lit 16 votives (in place of candles on the cake) as she lit each one she said thank you to people who had impacted her life. Thank you mom for being an awesome mom Thank you dad for stepping in and being a great dad to me when you married my mom Thank you sister for being the best friend I could ask for, etc. It was BEAUTIFUL. This was her idea and those of us who were thanked will never forget it. She also wore ballet slippers to the party and her dad changed them into high heals then they danced. The food was very simple baked ziti, salad and garlic bread.

For fun she likes to read, talk on the phone, chat online and shop. It's way to wet for a picnic here. Her dad will be taking her out to dinner. That is separate from the $200. I like the keychain idea. That sounds like fun!

That would be fun, except the invitations to her grandparents and siblings have already been received. However, we could still do something like that anyway.

Roberta, you can do a pot luck to keep the cost of food down. Will your family who you invited be open to that? Can you put a theme to the party? You can do alot with 200.00, especially if you have to do the food by yourself, by keeping it simple like a spaghetti dinner. You can use the rest of the money to get her a special gift from you to her that she can pass down to her daughter if she has one. You can also ask all who are coming to write down one special thing about her on a post card and she can draw them out and read them before she blows out the candles. That would be especially cool if she were to do the votive thing and have 16 things to say about the people who have impacted her life. She can be surprised with cards of encouragement and advice and how she has impacted their lives just as well.

That sounds great too Tracy. I wish I had a dig. camera so I could show pics. of the party to everyone. Since my bday is the same day, I wonder if I should drop some hints.

She's going to Build-A-Bear on Saturday. The family is coming over on Sunday. I still haven't bought anything, including cake mix.

Roberta, keep it simple then. Is it warm where you are? Could you do a burger, brat, and hot dog bbq? Potato Salad, Pasta Salad, Cake and some other dessert type thing?

Ok, so he just showed up? I am so sorry Roberta. Can you tell him to stay really really far away from you? That was kind of a joke. My ex husband lives a mile from me so he can make himself a pest, but for the most part, physically, he stays away.

I decided not to give her the pearls, just the angel. I wrote a personalized card for her. She cried when she read it and opened the angel. She's not normally like that.

I didn't mean to make her cry. It was the first present she opened. She insisted on fixing her make-up before opening the others.
