Okay.. one of the members stated that if you google your screen name, it can find your posts besides yourself on Crosswalk. I am bothered by this because sometimes I like to use this site to communicate with people and like to use the site to ask questions. Is there any way to stop my screen name and posts from being found on Google? I am seriously concerned.

No, there is no way for you to block Google from adding your posts to their search engine. As I always say... Don't ever post or say anything on the Web that you don't want your stalker, friend, fiancé, teacher, classmate, band member, employer, employee, church, deacon, pastor, spouse, parent, grandparent, sibling, significant other, child, roommate, teammate, coach, counselor, lawyer, judge, Police, CIA, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, or a carpenter born in a stable to see.

I was pretty shocked when I first heard about the googling thing awhile back. I do notice though, with a screen name like mine, a regular fairly common word, it doesn't show up..., well, I have not spent the time to go far enough in pages to actually find one that is one of my posts. It really is a good reminder though to be on your toes about everything you post on the internet.

I just checked one of the listings on the search results for my screen name and I found this site called boardreader.com. The page I saw was profiling the Television and Radio forum here. It listed the topics posted within the thread, the week's top post authors and how many posts they made. Very interesting site.

That's how mine is too. It's just too common. I think the time I tried it took about 10 pages of google results before there was a link to my personal thread here. I never post a single word that I wouldn't mind any and everyone reading. If it's too personal for a million strangers, then it's too personal to post here.

There is a way for forums to block google, but I have no idea how exactly. I suspect it might be because all of the forum is readable without having to have a password and without having to log in. If it were changed so that you could only read posts after logging in, then everything would be blocked from google. But I think requiring a log in to read the forum would defeat the purpose of the forum. Plus I don't think there's anything on here that's so personal or terrible that it would be bad for it to show up in google. Anyone can read your posts on the forum already as it is, so I don't see why appearing in google would make any difference.

Actually we WANT google to be able to index our forum. Why? Because a key way to get NEW members to come to your community is through search engines. There are a few Forums out there that require login to read. If one wants that level of privacy one may want to find a different Forum.
